While interviewing 20th Century Fox CEO Tom Rothman at Las Vegas' CinemaCon MTV News brought up the hot topic of where the filming for Hugh Jackman's next Wolverine movie would take place. Just last week it was announced that James Mangold's The Wolverine would shoot in Australia, but Rothman informs MTV News that stage work will take place there, but location shoots would in be in Japan.

"I can just tell you on behalf of him, his goal is to make the ultimate, bad ass, berserker rage Wolverine," Tom Rothman says about star Hugh Jackman.

Plot - Logan beginning a forbidden romance with a Japanese woman whose hand in marriage is, unfortunately, promised to another man. Since Logan won’t take “no” for an answer, it puts him into battle with her father and her samurai-sword-wielding brothers and Silver Samurai.

The Wolverine will be directed by James Mangold (Knight and Day), the script has been written by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects). Hugh Jackman will of course be back in the lead role of Logan/Wolverine, and the film will claw into theaters July 26, 2013.

Of course they will shoot it in 3D. Fox is going to bleed this franchise for everything it's worth. I would prefer they shoot in IMAX because the scenery of Japan would look stunning in that format.

P862010 - 4/26/2012, 3:20 PM
fox is on the money lately

First class
Rise Of The Apes
even Avatar

now this year we have Prometheus by FOX

haters gonna hate
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 4/26/2012, 3:23 PM
@P862010

I agree. First Class and Rise of The Planet of the apes were my two of my favorite blockbusters last year (along with Super 8). It really seems like Fox has learned its lesson, and I expect The Wolverine to be great.

However if it comes out that they are going to shoehorn in more X-Men into this movie, I am out. I will catch it on Blu Ray because I have seen how that turns out. Here's hoping that the Wolverine movie actually focus's on Wolverine.
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 4/26/2012, 3:25 PM
However I say it will be converted or shot in 3D because that is how studios generate more revenue from these flicks. They can charge an extra 10 bucks or so a ticket just so audiences can have the (dis)pleasure of watching it in 3D.

Seriously have you ever met one person that has said, "Oh boy, I really hope the movie is in 3D?"

Yeah me either.
Ha1frican - 4/26/2012, 3:26 PM
@P862010 @RediculousFanBoyDemands First class was an ok movie but it was a complete butchering of the Xmen and made no sense eve in the continuity of the films
marvel72 - 4/26/2012, 3:29 PM
better not f*ck it up like you did with the last one fox.
Nightmare7 - 4/26/2012, 3:44 PM
Wear The Brown suit with the mask and stay true to the source material of the Frank miller japan story and this could be a winner

TankD - 4/26/2012, 3:50 PM
Hugh Jackman is NOT wolverine.
soaponapope - 4/26/2012, 3:55 PM
good news. there were rumors it was going to be shot in vancouver or some crap, then australia but not japan. so good to hear it will be shot on location in japan with authentic japanese actors. we've already heard that the script is very solid, and obviously hugh jackman is passionate about this movie and character. to me he fits as wolverine the way robert downey jr. fits as tony stark.
95 - 4/26/2012, 3:55 PM
Oh boy, I really hope the movie is in stereoscopic 3D!
AlexdoxA - 4/26/2012, 3:57 PM
@dealmethlibrarian I'm with Nomis too...
BlackDynamite - 4/26/2012, 3:57 PM
I wanna see Jackman slice someone's head off...... seriously this time not like how he did with that poor excuse for deadpool.

Then I'll call him Wolverine
BlackDynamite - 4/26/2012, 3:58 PM
Oh and is his actual superhero costume to much to ask for?
headlopper - 4/26/2012, 4:00 PM
You listened? You learned? Well shall see.

Berserker rage you say?!

Ahhh Jackman, I knew you were a fan!

Thank you Hugh; I owe you a beer!

R [frick]ING RATED! His last 4 incarnations have been so toned down for comedic reasons, I WANT THE SAVAGE BEAST!!!

headlopper - 4/26/2012, 4:15 PM
@TheGambitFreak- Read the link in my post above.

Feel the exact same way.

Either he's the Wolverine in X-Force or forget it!
WombRaider - 4/26/2012, 4:26 PM
whenever i think of americans in japan i think of kill bill...am i the only one who thinks doing a complete wolverine reboot wouldnt be a bad idea? origins sucked donkey dick
Gmoney84 - 4/26/2012, 4:32 PM
Mark my words...this movie will be awesome. Without a doubt.
GUNSMITH - 4/26/2012, 4:32 PM
HUGH JACKMAN, WHAT DOES HE LOOK LIKE IN THE COSTUME?
Ghostt - 4/26/2012, 4:42 PM
I would like to see him in costume, modernized and tweaked somewhat. Maybe in a surreal dream sequence.

Wolverine doesn't need no stinking 3D. Don't do it
CoolantTech - 4/26/2012, 4:45 PM
Huge Wolverine fan, I wanna see heads roll with blood, and staight killin people, not any self righteous, non-killing code... can we actually see blood on razor sharp claws this time please.
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 4/26/2012, 5:07 PM
@3D

That made me actually laugh out loud.

TELL ROTHMAN TO LEAVE THE MOVIE ALONE.

If he does that, then there might be a chance we get a good film. But if he micromanages it like the last one, then it's dead as fried chicken.
mgeoff88 - 4/26/2012, 6:26 PM
That's great to hear. Nothing wrong with authenticity. :)

What Tom Rothman said, is exactly what we want in this movie.

I hope Hugh Jackman meets his goal.
kevberg - 4/26/2012, 6:26 PM
I trust HUGH, he gets it. but Rothman is a micromanaging crazy who had a big hand in screwing the last one. ( going in and having sets changed and repainted days before filming ).

Hugh is and has been a great Wolverine.
vtopa - 4/26/2012, 6:53 PM
Rater R or GO AWAY.
theomegasanction - 4/26/2012, 7:47 PM
like most i hated Origins and will wait to see this at home because i expect it to be average at best. would much rather see reboot to distance from current horrible movies. when will they figure out that many great movies are already written out and illustrated. 300, Watchmen, and Sin City are examples of movie success by not straying from the source material. Xmen sucked and I fast forwarded through half of Origins. Hugh Jackman is not the problem! Is it really so hard to make a movie based on one of comic books most popular characters? Origins should have been a reboot from the Xmen movies.
Rockstar96 - 4/26/2012, 7:49 PM
I'm not trying to criticize The Wolverine; I like Wolverine, but the plot sounds like a romance story, which concerns me.
DocDeath - 4/26/2012, 7:52 PM
Don't f. U.c.k it up jack!!!! Last one was so s.hit. ! Wolverine should be done right, 80"s - 70"s style, old school, ninjas, brown costume , mask, rated , se.x. Women , everything, and a kick ass score and story !!! Memento like style, think pulp fiction! Please! if not - Ted is dead and jack man !

FOX, PLEASE GIVE WOLVIE, BACK 2 MARVEL!!!
neopunch - 4/26/2012, 11:52 PM
@kamen. it would be a long shot, i'm afraid...
TheMyth - 4/27/2012, 1:19 AM
C'mon, why all the Hugh hate? The man has done a great job with the character and it can be argued that his portrayal of the character and loyalty to the role, especially in his rise to stardom, can be credited with the overall improvement of tone and the seriousness with which CBM's are taken as cinematic powerhouses. Like it or not, without him and Toby (Which we all know how the majority feel about that) CBM's like TDK and Avengers would be significantly different, if considered at all.
Come at me bros!

I welcome another Jackman Wolverine and he can keep playing the role as long as Fox holds the rights. I do have a condition, this outing is the best opportunity to put him in a classic costume, I'm thinking the brown/tan rendition is perfect. It even fits for the film, it can function as a sneaking suit tailored to him and his unique talents.
TheDickRises - 4/27/2012, 1:21 AM
when this movie released anyway? its always same shit i read there;s no [frick]ing development in this [frick]ing movie
hartley07 - 4/27/2012, 3:36 AM
THIS IS OLDER THAN OLD NEWS.
jaewest215 - 4/27/2012, 4:58 AM
@ TankD and RamonSuarez I agree 100%. Jackman IS NOT Wolverine. He is too tall and feminine. He is short, stocky and rough. They need to let Bay direct a X-Men reboot.
chuckg313 - 4/27/2012, 7:43 AM
i want this movie to good but i think its gonna suck
DanteSparda - 4/27/2012, 9:36 AM
I really have high expectations for this film, after seeing how Fox did last year (X-Men: First Class, Planet of the Apes Prequel), and their future projects (mostly Prometheus), and after the huge disappointment that was the first Wolverine Fox can't risk to make the same mistake twice and lose the appeal of the character forever.

Here are a few things I want in order of appreciation for this film:

1- A true to the character Wolverine (Berserker Rage, code of honor and being a dick sometimes).

2- That they don't throw a lot of useless characters and more importantly characters that don't belong to the japan saga (Silver Samurai and Viper do belong at some point).

3- Seeing him in full Wolverine costume including the mask, even if is the X-Force version (it would make sense for the stealth/ninja thing) or a slightly modified version of any other of his classic costumes.

4- An R rated version for DVD/Blue Ray.

5- Shot in IMAX.
