Vin Diesel recently wrapped filming on his third film in the Riddick franchise, which is aptly titled, Riddick. During production he was very active with updates, posting information and photos from the set. Just today the actor has written a new message on his Facebook page that indicates Riddick won't be released in 2012, but actually 2013. He also said that Univeral is happy with what they've seen so far and are interested in making two more down the road.
“The studio said the earliest they could release the new “Riddick” is in January… was hoping for 2012… but, it’s on the horizon.

P.S. I think they are liking what they are seeing… haha, cause they asked when both Underverse and Furya would be ready to make and release… haha… now that’s a ways in the future but it is exciting.”

Thanks to the heads up from Paul Romano.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

Riddick is starring Vin Diesel, Katee Sachoff, Jordi Molla, and Karl Urban. The film will be directed by David Twohy, and also stars: Matt Nable, Conrad Pla, Raoul Trujillo, Keri Hilson, Bokeem Woodbine and David Bautista.

Riddick and Vin Diesel as Riddick was only ever cool as the unexpected hero of Pitch Black. Other than this, this character is crap.

Both films were enjoyable. Not cinematic masterpieces, but fun movies. I'd watch another.

Great news but I never thought the chronicles of riddick any good except the pitch black which was great and fresh at that time. The chronicles of riddick seems more that vin diesel was trying to be a big name for an action star just like Arnold and Bruce Willis. Name a good vin diesel movie before chronicles of riddick and you'll see that his only good movie was pitch black and fast and the furious. He left fast and furious sequel for xXx to pursuit an action character that he can own and stamp his name on.

Riddick was the closesest so that's why he did chronicles of riddick and they tried to make this world and make it like a Conan in space. I never liked chronicles of riddick because it has a feel that they try to make it a Conan in space meets star wars. I for one is happy they are going back to the route of pitch black because riddick is a very interesting and cool character. For him jumping and saying a two sequel is on, don't promise till this new one is any good first.

Quality is the key for a successful franchise and chronicles of riddick is not, so I hope this new one is good.

Chronicles of Riddick to me felt like a role playing game. reminded me of rolling some dice with people and coming up with crazy stories. then i discovered ladies and the dice rolling kinda stopped:)
i also liked Chronicles because it didn't seem like they were just trying to make Pitch Black all over again.

Just make them before you turn 50.
