Who Is This Mysterious STAR TREK 2 Character?

During last night's telecast of the 2012 MTV Movie Awards there was a semi-humorous sketch that featured J.J. Abrams. What was interesting is that the monitor behind him revealed the first look at the Star Trek sequel.

While the frame remained mostly out of sight behind Abrams, the screen behind the director clearly shows a character with his or her face covered by some kind of mask, one that didn't appear anywhere in the previous "Star Trek" film. Since we don't have much context for the shot, it's difficult to say who might be under the mask, but from the looks of it, the character doesn't appear to be a member of Starfleet.

Star Trek 2 Villain?

Star Trek 2 spoiler MTV Movie Awards

Most sites are reporting that this is most likely our first look at a Klingon. We do know that J.J. Abrams had included the Klingons in his 2009 Star Trek film, but left those scenes on the cutting room floor. Take a look below at one of those scenes and compare those Klingons with the figure from above. What do you think?

"Star Trek 2" stars Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho and Alice Eve. The film is expected to be in theaters May 17, 2013.

cumberbatch sounds like an alien race in and of itself.

"captain, the cumberbatch are decloaking."

"red alert"

:)

Looks like a cross between a Cobra solider and a Uruk-hi from LOTR

I saw the Star Trek reboot and Im not at all waiting for #2. If it was online right now, I would have to be pretty bored to watch it.
The main problem is the new guys never really fit into the roles. The weakest actor was Chris Pine and Kirk was also written very badly as well.
When Shatner walked the corridors of the Enterprise he looked like he owned the place.
Pine is just another guy. At no time does he or the character seem like a leader.
The rest of the cast is weak or just not convincing as well but other than Kirk the worst casting would be Anton Yelchin. But he also seemed out of place in T4 and Fright Night.
At the end of the film when Kirk is made Captain, it occurs in an unnatural way as if its merely predestined because Kirk was Captain in the series. He becomes a Captain easier than some become a fast food manager.

That does look a lot like a Predator mask in that blurred image.

I guess, when the Klingons run out of masks they turn to the Predators for some.

It's probably like, buy 10 Predator masks and get 5 five free or something. :P

@CCB1984 Nice, I wonder why those scenes were cut from the movie?
GUNSMITH - 6/4/2012, 3:13 AM
I WAS GOING TO SAY PREDATOR
MysteryMonday - 6/4/2012, 3:23 AM

Gmoney84 - 6/4/2012, 5:47 AM
Did the Klingon ever wear masks in the old series or films? I don't recall ever seeing such.
HavocPrime - 6/4/2012, 5:49 AM
Klingon, its the same mask from the deleted scene
Groge511 - 6/4/2012, 5:55 AM
Definitely Klingon!
95 - 6/4/2012, 6:18 AM
Yup... Klingon.
Shadowelfz - 6/4/2012, 7:08 AM
Yup definately a Klingon. Awesome.
Chewtoy - 6/4/2012, 7:09 AM
@Gmoney: no, they put helmets on them to save the reveal of what the new series versions of Klingons would look like. Star Trek apparently wrote a reason into continuity for the appearance of Klingons going from just humans in face-paint in the original series to having ridged prosthetic foreheads in the movies and later series. Aabrams didn't want to lock himself into one choice or the other for the sake of a brief scene.
Maia87 - 6/4/2012, 7:14 AM
It's Predator.
Fantine - 6/4/2012, 7:27 AM
its Robin
ZombieOverEasy - 6/4/2012, 7:40 AM

RunDTC - 6/4/2012, 7:42 AM
I was more concerned with Jennifer Lawrence. yummy!
PaulRom - 6/4/2012, 7:48 AM
Looks like a Klingon to me. Won't be surprised if it's a Skrull disguised as Dick Grayson, though.
HelaGood - 6/4/2012, 7:57 AM
it's Bane!

ComradeGrey - 6/4/2012, 9:02 AM
It's a Klingon you dumb [frick]. Scenes with this exact costume were cut from the first movie.
bhorwith22 - 6/4/2012, 9:15 AM
I think its a Klingon. IMO they wear the helmets out of shame. Some Romulans wore V-shaped helmets in the original series too, although I don't think that was out of shame.
dellamorte1872 - 6/4/2012, 9:24 AM
wearing them in "shame" is counter intuitive to BEING a KLINGON! they are a proud warrior race! this new guise both confuses and annoys me. how can they "claim" to know TREK? if these writers make odd choices like this?
dellamorte1872 - 6/4/2012, 9:25 AM
i agree its a KLINGON but thats why its so sad
Dedpool - 6/4/2012, 9:48 AM
It's a Helmeted Klingon! Loved the helmets in the deleted scens from the first, I hope we get to see them full on in this film.
hawkeye1 - 6/4/2012, 10:20 AM

hawkeye1 - 6/4/2012, 10:20 AM
