The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

The film opens in 3D September 21st.

Stallone voice over: "I am not Impressed"
Himura - 6/6/2012, 2:33 PM
I really hope this is good too...but that banner and logo is just, dare I say, dreadful.
nailbiter111 - 6/6/2012, 2:34 PM
shouldn't you say dreddful?
TonyChu - 6/6/2012, 2:35 PM
Can we get a [frick]ing trailer or teaser at least. My interest in this movie is declining but may pick up with a trailer.
LOL - 6/6/2012, 2:37 PM
I'm still worried. That helmet looks SOOOO frigging out of place with the whole costume. I still sometimes wish they got the team who've been trying to do that Judge Minty fanfilm a crack at costuming and set design. This still looks like something out of a SyFy movie or a direct-to-video release regardless of the supposedly strong script. If the script is somehow faithful (their words) to the comic books in terms of spirit, why can't they try to go for the looks as well?
seamuskeaneart - 6/6/2012, 2:37 PM
That DREED logo looks so fan-made
BB - 6/6/2012, 2:41 PM
WHERE'S THE FRICKIN TRAILER!!!
dezdigi - 6/6/2012, 2:42 PM
Trailer-now!
INSTANTJUSTICE - 6/6/2012, 2:44 PM
The DREDD banner logo is NOT OFFICIAL -the real one is a different font - it was done by the website these photos are taken from.
INSTANTJUSTICE - 6/6/2012, 2:46 PM
Helmet is perfect.
nowtheresaBATman - 6/6/2012, 2:49 PM
Karl Urban's face is going to be permanately stuck w/ a frown. It looks like it's alot of work to hold that expression.
mikebunt - 6/6/2012, 2:53 PM
Judge Minty reference! Awesome.
ronnie42 - 6/6/2012, 2:56 PM
Have to agree the logo looks weak. It looks like something I made in under 5 minutes.
Montross - 6/6/2012, 3:00 PM
I love Karl Urban as an actor and I have high hopes for this movie, but I can't help but laugh at that ridiculous scowl he seems to have in every photo.
write33 - 6/6/2012, 3:01 PM
@Montross
agreed. it looks like he smells poo. very unintentionally fu!nny, and i like Urba
AlexDeLarge87 - 6/6/2012, 3:06 PM
Looks cool. :)

Now the trailer please.
RocketMadnessBoss - 6/6/2012, 3:06 PM
The helmet looks photoshopped on, even though I know it isn't.
SeaSerpentine - 6/6/2012, 3:11 PM
Love the costume.
HavocPrime - 6/6/2012, 3:12 PM
Surprised at the lack of any adverts so far, it is only three months away
Ceejay - 6/6/2012, 3:13 PM
God that costume looks cheap, like something you'll find in those old Doctor Who TV shows I hate.

Karl Urban has no prominent chin or the physique for Dredd.
Boyle360 - 6/6/2012, 3:19 PM
Just release a god damn trailer.
Priest - 6/6/2012, 3:20 PM
If they had made that helmet just about 10% to 15% smaller, it would had been perfect. Right now, I think it looks too big.
RocketMadnessBoss - 6/6/2012, 3:20 PM
Wow, I just read the synopsis. Sounds like the poor man's MIBII.
RocketMadnessBoss - 6/6/2012, 3:20 PM
Throw in a little bit of MIB1 in there, too.
INSTANTJUSTICE - 6/6/2012, 3:23 PM
@Ronnie42

THAT LOGO/BANNER IS NOT THE OFFICIAL LOGO.
Asterisk - 6/6/2012, 3:25 PM
NextHero08 - 6/6/2012, 3:26 PM
Frag it...
m73 - 6/6/2012, 3:31 PM
agreed.. logo looks fanmade from someone who has just discovered photoshop fx
Gigacrusher45 - 6/6/2012, 3:32 PM
How does he see out of that helmet with the red x stopping right in front of his eyes?
CyberBishop - 6/6/2012, 3:42 PM
Banner looks photoshopped.
dreddhead123 - 6/6/2012, 3:53 PM
I think the new photo is fantastic, and believe me, I've been very critical of the previous photos of the uniform. This new image has restored my faith in the look. :) :)

I do fear the storyline is the film's major weakness. If people want 'Die Hard meets Robocop 2 with a touch of Bullet Time' then this film has good chance of decent box office but if people want something more specific to Judge Dredd's world, such as

The Mega-Rackets storyline

The Hunters Club

Graveyard Shift

then I think this film could be in trouble. Fortunately for DNA and IM Global the vast majority of potential punters for Dredd haven't read the comic strip so they might not care if it the story seems very Die Hard-ish. I do feel Alex Garland lacks much imagination. John Wagner - creator/writer of Judge Dredd - is blessed with one of the greatest sci-fi imaginations the world has ever seen. And that's no exaggeration.

The trailer is expected tomorrow or Friday. :)
dreddhead123 - 6/6/2012, 3:57 PM
Just to add - the scowl on Urban's face is 100 percent faithful to the source material. I don't know if it will look good on screen but Urban is trying to be faithful to the character and you can't fault him for that.
AlexDeLarge87 - 6/6/2012, 3:58 PM
tea@ Thats nice! :)
dreddhead123 - 6/6/2012, 3:58 PM
Nice fan cover. Dredd could be done with a very simple poster. A helmet or badge or perhaps one half of Judge Dredd's face is visible, the other in shadow.

Lionsgate's posters look pretty cool so I'm sure the finished poster will be good. :)
HavocT - 6/6/2012, 4:33 PM
Dredding the logo...
jumpingJellybeans - 6/6/2012, 4:38 PM
I DIDN'T BETRAY THE LAUEEAAAAHAAWWWW! THE LLLLLAAUUUUUEAHAHHHHHHAAWWWWWWW?
INSTANTJUSTICE - 6/6/2012, 4:43 PM
@HavocT

No point Dredding an UNOFFICIAL logo
EditNinja - 6/6/2012, 4:56 PM
Longest wait for a trailer to a 2012-released movie.
What's that all about?
dreddhead123 - 6/6/2012, 5:20 PM
It should be here tomorrow or Friday. I know the wait has been incredible but it should be here this week (fingers crossed!)

If this trailer is incredible, well, the wait was worth it! :))
Ranger14 - 6/6/2012, 5:47 PM
"I'm still worried. That helmet looks SOOOO frigging out of place with the whole costume"

I personally don't think it is the helmet, I think it is the lack of the signature Dredd chin, which in turn makes the helmet look somewhat out of place. You need that big square jaw to make the little face shown appropriate with the helmet. That's my 2 pennies worth.
dreddhead123 - 6/6/2012, 6:19 PM
I think the new photo sells Judge Dredd as 'real' - as if he were a real person in a real world environment. In the 2000AD comic strip it's all exaggerated:

Larger chin, face, shoulder pads, very broad shoulders. That look has been standard since mid 1978's 2000AD. For over 30 years that has been the look. The first year and a half of Judge Dredd he had smaller pads, a narrower body frame, but that look was replaced with the exaggerated version.

The film makers are not making an over-the-top version of Judge Dredd. Perhaps that's the wrong take, perhaps it's the right take, I dunno, I guess the trailer will help people come to an opinion on that, but it seems clear the uniform and Urban's look present a more realistic version of Judge Dredd.
dreddhead123 - 6/6/2012, 6:31 PM
The look on the left would be too impractical in a live action film, particularly one as action packed as Dredd 2012:

A streamlined version is more practical even if it's not 100 percent faithful.

drfate - 6/6/2012, 7:01 PM
they could have at LEAST put the badge chain in! C'mon, guys. I like Stallone's suit better.
GUNSMITH - 6/6/2012, 8:25 PM
NO TRAILER...LIKE NONE.
xXxinner - 6/7/2012, 12:15 AM
Mmmmmm i don´t like the costume, and the guy is kind of small dont u think??
INSTANTJUSTICE - 6/7/2012, 12:53 AM
Urban's 6 foot 2 and towers over Stallone and Dredd was never a steroid lunk in the early Dredd comics, he was lean like Clint Eastwood.
DukeAcureds - 6/7/2012, 2:25 AM
Don't like the shoulder.
dreddhead123 - 6/7/2012, 2:45 AM
That is a nice, poster, charlesbronoson.

I think the makers of Dredd have totally screwed up the marketing. Yes, I know there's three months to go so we'll get a trailer, posters, tv spots perhaps, the odd interview here and there but just imagine if that sort of poster had been done a few months ago and promoted around the internet and at comic cons like Kapow! UK.

The promotion of this film - so far, I mean - has been awful. Kinda depressing just how 'can't be bothered' it's been. Just not the way a comic character of 35 years (!) should be handled. That poster really highlights *what could have been done* to promote this film.
