BlackMocco is a huge fan of Judge Dredd and was looking forward to seeing an advanced screening of the new movie, but a bit of bad timing ruined his night. Here, let him describe it in his own words, "Gutted. Didn't get in! I was next in line and they cut it off!"

Then Alex Garland heard about the situation and sent this:

The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

The film opens in 3D September 21st.

Alex Garland is wonderful. Wish he'd write another book. The Beach is my favorite novel and I enjoyed his other two works as well.

Super cool. Neat sketch, too. I'll probably catch Dredd on RedBox— if they don't offer non-3D screening in cinemas. $7.50 Matinee or nothin'!

What a wonderful human being, that Alex Garland. Hope he keeps the prop, seeing as it's a very special gift.

IronManny819 - 7/5/2012, 10:49 PM

I don't understand, he hooks this guy up because he was late? They purposely overbook screenings to ensure a full house, they're first come, first serve. For a big release (like the Avengers screening I went to) I showed an hour and half early and there were already 50-75 in line.

a better view of the city but still look too open but hey it may get more claustrophobic if there's a sequel.
Shame for the guy not getting in but nice consolation prize. Wish I had the cash to go to the SDCC

this movie will be cool, its r rated, the creator of dredd said it was a complete faithfull adaptation and most import the helmet stays on.

it won't make millions like the other summer blockbusters but it will be critically aclaimed.

Mega City 1 looks cool definitely :)

Dredd 2 better introduce some Cursed Earth mutants and robots.
