Looks like Simon Bland of the website "I Review Too..." has grabbed the first big scoop for the Thor sequel. Oddly enough this scoop is just slightly over a month old but hasn't been unearthed by any major site, til now. Simon had a chat with British stuntman James Grogan, who has performed stunts on over seventy films. Most recently Tim Burton's Dark Shadows and Chris Hemsworth's Snow White and the Huntsman. During the brief chat Grogan reveals that stuntmen working on the next Thor film are training to be elves.

However what we don’t know is which intergalactic foe or group of foes The Mighty Thor will be aiming his hammer at. Thanks to a brief chat with Hollywood stuntman James Grogan, we may have our answer. Whilst discussing the importance of acting chops in stunt work, Grogan related the experience to a certain Marvel film that he’s currently training for. “The other day for example, this is quite random but I was working on Thor 2,” he explains, “I had a load of stunt guys in and the director came in and he said ‘Look, we want you all to be elves,’ and I was like ‘What the hell is an elf anyway?’ and he said ‘I want you all to walk around like these supernatural animals,’ honestly it was the most ridiculous thing ever but you just have to not be self aware and get on with it.”

Since the title is Thor: The Dark World it's pretty safe to assume that he is referring to the dark elves. Which would then lead us to believe that their leader, Malekith the Accursed, is one of the main villains. Now we already know that Tom Hiddleston is returning as Loki, and there is a popular story that links him with Malekith. In the comic book Thor #344 Loki and Malekith formed an alliance in order to secure the Casket of Ancient Winters. Perhaps they will use this story arc for the sequel, or perhaps not.

Dark Elves - The Dark Elves are ruled over by Malekith the Accursed, and the most powerful amongst their ranks was Algrim the Strong. However, Algrim was betrayed by Malekith in a bid to kill Thor. Algrim was dropped into lava and though he survived, he was critically wounded. The Beyonder transformed Algrim into the monstrous Kurse, who seemingly kills Malekith for the betrayal. Years later, Malekith reveals that he survived, and he sets forth an ultimately unsuccessful plot for Hercules to kill Alflyse, the Dark Elf Queen of the Eastern Spires.

The trio of Bitterhand, Wormwood, and Grendell serve Malekith loyally and have attempted to destroy Thor on several occasions, including once while Mjolnir was being reforged

Malekith the Accursed is a supervillain in the Marvel Universe. He is ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, and has come into conflict with Thor. He once wielded the Casket of Ancient Winters.

The Casket of Ancient Winters - An Asgardian relic and the greatest weapon of Malekith the Accursed. When opened, it can reproduce the infinite icy cold of Niflheim. Later entrusted to the care of Edwin Jarvis, butler to the Avengers, by Thor. Causes its holder to grow younger gradually.- Wiki

THOR 2 will be directed by Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, The Sopranos) and will be released November 8, 2013. Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, and Idris Elba are all expected to return.

TayDee - 7/18/2012, 8:54 PM
Hmmm I don't remember who I chatted with on here, but he guessed right about the villains being the Dark Elves. I guess he was spot on
cashsteele - 7/18/2012, 9:00 PM
That probably means Malekith & Kurse, hopefully Enchantress will be involved...
Ironnick - 7/18/2012, 9:03 PM

TristanThatGuy - 7/18/2012, 9:17 PM
Cool. But eh, I kinda liked the other font for the title...
CorndogBurglar - 7/18/2012, 9:17 PM
They should do Surtur for [frick]s sake.
butter313 - 7/18/2012, 9:20 PM

PantherX - 7/18/2012, 9:21 PM
Figures. Although I'm expecting there's more to it than that.
BrotherStarkofMABMindz - 7/18/2012, 9:25 PM
MALEKITH

Has anybody ever heard the term save the best for last Surtur, Amora & The Executioner team up in Thor: Journey Into Mystery
musashi - 7/18/2012, 9:25 PM
Thor vs Legolas? Lol
Rhinoman - 7/18/2012, 9:41 PM
Has to be John Hawkes, just absolutley positively is the best fit for the character
Moakynubs - 7/18/2012, 9:49 PM
Here's to hoping they break all the elf cliches.
mmjoseph - 7/18/2012, 9:52 PM
enchantress needs to be involved in some way.
Sanderman - 7/18/2012, 9:52 PM
Figured they would introduce them since Thor was brought to Earth in the avengers by the use of dark magic
Tallglass54 - 7/18/2012, 9:54 PM
I get the feeling with the thor trilogy that it's going to go ice, darkness, and freaking fire :) with surtur. At least I hope so.
Tainted87 - 7/18/2012, 9:56 PM
You know, I've had the Walt Simonson Thor Omnibus since 2011, and I still haven't read past Malekith the Accursed.

Anyway, I hope he doesn't turn out exactly like Prince Nuada.
Altair - 7/18/2012, 9:57 PM
Thor 2 [frick] YEAH!!!!
superotherside - 7/18/2012, 10:01 PM
Nice, leave Subtur for the next sequel.

Still hope Thor has someone that can give him a challenge physically. He really didn't have any challenge in Thor except emotionally. Same with the Avengers, even with using about half of his power he still easily kicked Iron Man around, he got half a challenge with Hulk but didn't really use his full power on him as he didn't want to damage the helicarrier.

So this time I want someone who can give him a run for his money!
Supes17 - 7/18/2012, 10:03 PM
This sounds a little lame..............
RAWRG - 7/18/2012, 10:04 PM
@PuyGuy did you see Thor 2 yet, no dont think so...cough*nolanite*cough
Tallglass54 - 7/18/2012, 10:06 PM
@superotherside... but who from the dark elves could? I could be wrong but all I really heard from the comics that could give Thor a run, was the hulk and surtur.
dmm5 - 7/18/2012, 10:08 PM
Still wished they had gone with the title Thor II..... I'm writing a letter! >:/ lol Anyways, yeah I saw this coming the moment dark magic was mentioned in The Avengers. Then "The Dark World" just sealed the deal
ATrueHero1987 - 7/18/2012, 10:12 PM
Cool! Maybe there's still a chance The Enchantress could be in the mix?
LAXtremest - 7/18/2012, 10:12 PM
In Avengers Loki asked Thor how much dark energy the Allfather had to muster to get him back to Earth. I wonder if they will tie that in. I doubt the casket will come into play. That was a big part of the first one.
calciferboheme - 7/18/2012, 10:14 PM
I'm very cool with Malekith being the main baddie as long as Enchantress and Executioner are involved in some way and Surtur is the villain in the 3rd film.
TheAmazingChrisReeve63 - 7/18/2012, 10:14 PM
Hey........Y'know what this call for?......I'll tell ya. THOR BOMB, BABY!!

Phase 2 will be EPIC. Guarantee!! ;)

Stay EPIC, my friends!
MatioShack - 7/18/2012, 10:16 PM
Enchantress is cool, but she's pretty similar to Loki. She's got a helmet with horn-like things, she wears a green costume, and her powers are magical in nature. I want to see a character that's actually Thor's physical equal. We've already seen Thor fight the magic guy.
Cerebro - 7/18/2012, 10:17 PM
Not sure about the elves as the main villain, but fodder, Im cool with it.
ULTIMOSPIDER - 7/18/2012, 10:18 PM
Thor 4: Earth Pussy ** Jane Foster**
TheAmazingChrisReeve63 - 7/18/2012, 10:19 PM
Man, too bad that Mads Mikkelsen couldn't be in Thor: The Dark World. I think he would've owned the role as Maliketh. He has that downright dark look to him, and his performance with his many past roles were just right for this villian.

NickMP - 7/18/2012, 10:21 PM
They maybe saving the Enchantress and the Excutioner for the third movie
Triptheorist - 7/18/2012, 10:21 PM
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau for Malekith the Accursed.
tripttwe - 7/18/2012, 10:27 PM
@ Supes17- I agree with me...
Supes17 - 7/18/2012, 10:29 PM
Hopefully he wears the mutha[frick]ing helmet
Purge18 - 7/18/2012, 10:30 PM
Benjamin cumberbatch or Jude law would kick ass as malekith
113 - 7/18/2012, 10:31 PM
Didn't they use the casket of ancient winters in the first film? I mean it's cool they are trying to keep the continuity but let get something new amiright?
Darkhaven - 7/18/2012, 10:33 PM
I (and several others) called it! So, Marvel has...

-a space odyssey,
-a sword and sorcery fantasy,
-an espionage tale,
-a high tech saga,
-and a troubled genius superhero tale,

...all coming for Phase 2. Something for everyone. Nice.
Sortis - 7/18/2012, 10:36 PM
YES PLEASE!
BANE5000 - 7/18/2012, 10:37 PM
I had a feeling it could be Malekith when they said they wanted to cast Mads Mikkelsen for the villian, Mads would of been down right perfect for the role, but now that he's out, who can play Malekith ?
cgrass5150 - 7/18/2012, 10:46 PM
Beta Ray Bill, Ulik, Mangog, Fafnir, Midgard Serpent, Hela, Enchantress, Executioner, or Karnilla, would make some cool and heavy duty additions to "Thor 2." Any thoughts?
nailbiter111 - 7/18/2012, 10:50 PM
if Beta Ray Bill isn't it i'm not gonna be happy.
StormLoganSummers - 7/18/2012, 10:51 PM
Old news.
KALel3412 - 7/18/2012, 10:53 PM
i really wish i could get excited, but i thought thor was the worst marvel movie
IgnurRant - 7/18/2012, 10:58 PM
Hopefully Loki will reveal that The Avengers was all part of his plan to lose and get back into Asgard to steal the infinity gauntlet.

I dont like the thought that Loki himself is just a simple pawn and that the Avengers plot was the best he could think up. His scheming should rival the Joker's!
TheAmazingChrisReeve63 - 7/18/2012, 10:59 PM
Wait, how might Beta Ray Bill be involved in this, might I ask. If he is involved with this, then by God, bring him in Marvel!

This is turning out to be very, very interesting. :)
Nightmare7 - 7/18/2012, 11:10 PM
Malekith, and the dark elves as the main villians?meh..Enchantress or surtur would be some much better.
