Judge The New DREDD Featurette Showcasing The Beauty Of Slow Motion

The cast and crew of Dredd give us the low down on the drug 'slo-mo' which is flooding the streets of Dredd's city, and talk about how they filmed the slo-mo scenes with technology and techniques so new that they had to experiment to capture the mind-blowing sequences. - web.orange.co.uk

The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

The film opens in 3D September 21st.

This is the kind of attention to detail and overall technical endeavour that (if the film is good re: story and acting) could elevate this new DREDD film even further to cult status.

Don't believe slo-mo makes even making a cup of tea look epic?. Watch this;

plasticman - 8/23/2012, 9:06 AM
I prefer slow motion over the camera jumping crap that Michael Bay specializes in.

I really like how Karl Urban made the comparison to a comic panel. I can kinda see what he means.

Someone forgot to tell Alex Garland that the Max Payne video game did this over a decade ago.

Pendaghast - 8/23/2012, 10:43 AM
@Fettastic silly question really aint it, millions of real people live in dangerous areas and do drugs and drink that slow there reaction time down!
PapaMidnite - 8/23/2012, 11:25 AM
@Valandil, sure that Zack Snyder will! ;P
Cookiedodger - 8/23/2012, 11:31 AM
@ fettastic:
The drug wouldn't slow down your reaction time, You would just experience everything in a hyper-realistic state.
You would in fact see the world like Neo did in the Matrix when he dodged the bullets, but you would be no more effective dodging them than your average person.
valeriesghost - 8/23/2012, 11:33 AM
I think i'm gonna like this movie
TheBurnSays - 8/23/2012, 12:30 PM
This movie is growing onto me... slooooooly. See what I did there!
INSTANTJUSTICE - 8/23/2012, 1:08 PM
The drug slows your perception down, it doesn't speed reactions up. Things like light and sound would be experienced differently and more broken up because you would be seeing hearing them travel at a different speed but you wouldn't be physically moving any faster.
SimyJo - 8/23/2012, 1:32 PM
@INSTANTJUSTICE;

Exactly. And unless you could move at 700mph (the speed of a bullet) you would not be able to get out of the way of said bullet, even if you did see it slo-mo inching its way towards you.
Thats got to be pretty torturous, Being high on Slo-Mo and SEE it coming from a long way off and not being able to get out of the way.
