The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

The film opens in 3D September 21st.

Looks good! I am really looking forward to Urban as Dredd!
dreddhead123 - 9/4/2012, 1:28 PM
And people were saying this new Judge Dredd film is incredibly violent?

I just saw Judge Dredd take out a perp with a stun shot!

A stun shot!!!! What is this, Star Trek? :P

"Your assessment starts now"...still seeing some inconsistencies with what voice he is going to use. I hope they stick with his Dredd voice throughout.

Sometimes you're not going to want to kill your arrestee.
dreddhead123 - 9/4/2012, 1:49 PM
Instantjustice has seen the film so he will know but I think (guessing) Urban's voice changes depending on the scene? It's possible he varies his voice - sometimes deeper, more throaty, sometimes a bit more natural. Perhaps Instantjustice can confirm or deny this. Thannks.
dreddhead123 - 9/4/2012, 1:50 PM
Instant, can you tell us if Urban's voice stays the same pitch throughout the entire film? Cheers.
dreddhead123 - 9/4/2012, 1:51 PM
That scene with the glove puppet was terrible too. I'm surprised none of the film reviews have mentioned that.

Those clips are form the EPKs which were all made with clips before the final dub of the film.

Karl's Dredd voice is consistent throughout.

"Karl's Dredd voice is consistent throughout."

Hmm.. okay.

What does EPK mean? Just curious.

I doubt Instant has seen the film. He's making it up. And that glove puppet scene is sick. Twisted filth. Ban this film!!!!!

Out of 100 percent - and taking into account the real modern day cars and the real buildings and lower budget - how close to the comic strip Judge Dredd do you think this is, Instant?

100 percent being perfect, 0 percent being nothing like the strip. Would you say, 80 percent?

INSTANTJUSTICE - 9/4/2012, 2:12 PM
Characterwise: 100%

Visually: 90%

"Characterwise: 100%

And storywise? (taking into account it's set in one block rather than all over the city)

For anyone new to Judge Dredd, please read this classic six page Judge Dredd story: The Forever Crimes. It's only six pages long.

Please copy and paste this link:

That's a good example of Judge Dredd and his world. :)

Anyone notice how Karl Urban never or rarely mentions Pete Travis in all the media interviews he gives? It's like the guy doesn't exist.

Urban:

"Pete who?"

:P
superpooper - 9/4/2012, 4:12 PM
This guy should have directed Punisher: Warzone

dreddhead123 - 9/4/2012, 4:21 PM
Judge Dredd makes The Punisher look like a boy scout!

"I am the jaw!"

INSTANTJUSTICE - 9/4/2012, 4:40 PM
Storywise: 100%

It's set in a 200 storey city-block for jaysussake.
SCURVYDOG619 - 9/4/2012, 4:54 PM
I've read a couple of reviews for Dredd that compare Urban's Dredd to Eastwood's Man With No Name.

Hyperbole? Maybe.

I'll see for myself on the 21st....

INSTANTJUSTICE - 9/4/2012, 5:04 PM
He's more Dirty Harry than Man With No Name but Dredd's a heavier, more ruthless character than either and he has a gun that fires multiple types of rounds.

So its a great film awesome to hear INSTANTJUSTICE

:)

Too bad Aussies get it next month :(
