In 2009 Jim Dorey of the blog, Marketsaw, had an anonymous source contact him and claimed that Lucasfilm were already working on Star Wars: Episodes VII, VIII & IX. And just a short while ago that same anonymous source provided more information about the planned sequels which you can check out in full here, or you can read the key points below. Some of them condensed by Bleeding Cool.

  • Luke Skywalker is a primary focus, as are many of the original trilogy cast (Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, C3PO and R2D2). Disney also realised that George Lucas and STAR WARS are one and the same, so George will certainly have a voice on any angle taken, in fact I believe it's one of many stipulations. However he will no longer have creative control,

  • I don't believe the empire was completely destroyed by the end of Return of the Jedi.

  • Mark Hamill is a certainty.

  • There are two trilogies planned, all following an original overview by Lucas, which was always planned as a multi generational saga. Movies 10 - 12 are from my understanding about the offspring of the Skywalkers, set many years later with the surviving cast playing much older versions of themselves and featuring a female protagonist named Skywalker.

  • The movies from what I understand will adopt the Harry Potter model, and will be aggressively brought to the forefront of popular entertainment once again with consistent installments.

  • Rewritten from previously secret drafts from way back during the making of the original trilogy. The main problem was the age of the cast, and the tone of the story. You will see a tone more in line with the original trilogy, and specifically featuring that cast

  • Live action TV show - The scripts already written will be absorbed in some way into a TV format. Basically they are 45 minute long feature films. With concepts that are very ambitious and the fact that it focuses on characters that are not known and are completely different to what people may have in mind about a STARWARS TV show.

  • Disney are “all over” restoring the original trilogy.

This mysterious source also lists the names of some directors that were being “bandied about” – Steven Spielberg, Neill Blomkamp, Alfonso Cuaron, Matthew Vaughn, Darren Aronofsky and Joss Whedon.

Interesting Choices for directors.
rockerdude22 - 11/2/2012, 3:39 PM
Joss would be cool, but he'll probably be too busy with overlooking the MCU. Out of that list of directors, I'd say go with Neill Blomkamp.
Darthzilla - 11/2/2012, 3:50 PM
Here's the more important question. Will John Williams return?
sKeemAn - 11/2/2012, 3:53 PM
I'm sick of the skywalkers.do another story. The Old republic sounds much better
fceeviper - 11/2/2012, 3:56 PM
Grain of salt.
Asterisk - 11/2/2012, 3:59 PM
I want Matthew Vaughn, but ANY of these guys would perfect.
Tony93 - 11/2/2012, 4:00 PM
BRING ON BEN SKYWALKER!!
Cast a relatively unknown, but great actor, young kid in his 20's or so,
Canon108 - 11/2/2012, 4:06 PM
Spielberg was actually supposed to direct Return of the Jedi back in the 80s but had to drop out. It would be great to see him come back for Episode VII...
Malcopunch - 11/2/2012, 4:09 PM
@Tony93 Dane Dehann (The Main Character of Chronicle) would be a perfect choice for Ben Skywalker
DioFoRio - 11/2/2012, 4:12 PM
Damn called that Blomkamp shit
DioFoRio - 11/2/2012, 4:16 PM
but voted for Speilberg..the first of the trilogy needs to have a grand scale..and the second inevitably darker sequel can go to Blomkamp.
Spidey91 - 11/2/2012, 4:17 PM
and suddenly...STAR WARS,STAR WARS EVERYWHERE! :P
but seriously,I wanna see what they do.
Happy11 - 11/2/2012, 4:22 PM
Just rumours
MovieMaster - 11/2/2012, 4:24 PM
Dane Dehaan would be way better for Jacen Solo imo. I would have loved to see him as Anakin in the Prequels.
AUSSYACE - 11/2/2012, 4:26 PM
DISNEY OWNS STAR WARS...

GEORGE LUCAS HERE IS YOUR RETIREMENT FUND...
jessepostal - 11/2/2012, 4:32 PM
Disney is already restoring the original trilogy, no add ins, no bs. The blu ray release that everyone wanted is finally happening and the fan boys rejoice :)
Bane2099 - 11/2/2012, 4:34 PM
By " restoring ", do they mean the going back to what made the original trilogy epic for these new films or meaning they are gonna " restore " the orginals on DVD with no Special Edition stuff added on to it?
jessepostal - 11/2/2012, 4:43 PM
@bane, I think the "all over" statement leans towards a new media release
Preston - 11/2/2012, 4:45 PM
steven

^^^ My choice.
TheSnuggler - 11/2/2012, 4:49 PM
Since they have Whedon on contract they could take him off Avengers and put him on Star Wars if he would prefer SW
repulse93 - 11/2/2012, 4:50 PM
@Wormwood Do you mean you WANT Lucas back???... I kid, I haven't really seen any of the films fully except A New Hope.

That said, I'm glad to see Disney taking this seriously with their choice of directors, and I'm pleasantly surprised to see that I wasn't off the mark when I thought Alfonso Cuaron might be a good choice.

I just hope they don't disregard the EU completely.
Priest - 11/2/2012, 4:50 PM
If those key points are true, then the happiest person in the world right now is Mark Hamill.
commanderhulk - 11/2/2012, 4:52 PM
Anyone but Arronofsky. Please don't let that pretincious filmmaker get his hands on Star Wars. I'm fine with all the others, could make for some fun interesting films.
repulse93 - 11/2/2012, 4:53 PM
I'm sure Whedon, Spielberg, and/or Vaughn would be awesome, but they've got Avengers 2 & SHIELD, Tintin sequels, and The Secret Service to deal with already.

Still wouldn't mind seeing Neil Blompkamp tackling Star Wars after Elysium and/or a District 9 sequel.
DoomXfactor - 11/2/2012, 4:53 PM
Hamill better start working out
jingorot - 11/2/2012, 4:54 PM
spielberg or whedon would be perfect. since whedon's busy with mcu right now, i'd go with spielberg.
Preston - 11/2/2012, 4:54 PM
@repulse93

star
jingorot - 11/2/2012, 4:56 PM
and to the inevitable comments about hammil:

luke skywalker growing older is not some otherworldly concept. hamill obviously won't be playing a teenager in this. and yeah sure, he can work out to look somewhat fit, but he doesn't need to be a cut like the old days to still look fine. he's playing a jedi (the force, lightsaber), not jackie chan.
sameoldthing - 11/2/2012, 5:05 PM
Disney is smart for wanting to use the Skywalker & Solo names/characters in next films.
People really identify & want more from them..not original actors, too old..need new blood.
laughterman26 - 11/2/2012, 5:09 PM
anakin solo and cade skywalker for the win
poop23 - 11/2/2012, 5:12 PM
Now when they say "restore", are they saying that the originals will be released as it was originally made without the added nonsense. If so, thank you disney, that would be so awesome. And rerelease them with the original half face video covers from before, those were the best
toco89 - 11/2/2012, 5:13 PM
Whedon...seriously? Whedon?

Watch somebody try to refute this.
toco89 - 11/2/2012, 5:27 PM
@commanderhulk

Yeah that pretentious world renowned academy award nominated bastard.

sexfoodcomics - 11/2/2012, 5:32 PM
I love Spielberg but 1. I don't think he will touch a Star Wars movie cause he is to close friend with Lucas 2. If he did that's bad for us fans cause Lucas will be able to manipulate him. And 3. Spielbergs sci fi films are too clean. They don't look lived in. Like the original movies. Neil blomkamp is my first choice. That dude is a great storyteller and has a gorgous artistic eye. I can't it for his new flick. My friend is working on it and he says it looks amazing.
calimike - 11/2/2012, 5:35 PM
I suggest It's J.J. Abrams :)
Barry - 11/2/2012, 5:37 PM
The original Star Wars trilogy and Joss Whedon's body of work are my favorite things in entertainment. As much as I'm excited to see what Joss has planned for Avengers 2, I'd rather he write and direct Star Wars: Episode VII (and the rest of the trilogy).
sexfoodcomics - 11/2/2012, 5:40 PM
I'm sure Luke will be playing the obi wan type character in this one.
spidey1994 - 11/2/2012, 5:41 PM
I'm calling bullshit on Whedon, since he's doing Avengers 2 which comes out the same year as Episode VII! Still hoping Jon Favreau or Brad Bird to direct.
tumbler - 11/2/2012, 5:49 PM
Do the Yuuzhan Vong war!!!
Christuffer - 11/2/2012, 5:52 PM
So much fail in these comments.

So much fail.

So much.
RedHood13 - 11/2/2012, 5:57 PM
God let this be a load of B.S
billytwohats - 11/2/2012, 6:00 PM
I smell bovine excrement. They're gonna recast Solo, Leia et al? Or use the pension age originals? Don't think so. As for the directors no one interesting will direct these films it will be someone nice and safe.
Chrono - 11/2/2012, 6:06 PM
I have no idea if this is real or not, but Spielberg is the best choice for at least the first movie in the new trilogy. Also, I love the idea of an aged and wizened Jedi sage being played by Hamill.
SolidSnake007 - 11/2/2012, 6:08 PM
Harrison Ford needs to stop being a douche and get is Solo ass back to Falcon.
DrRockso - 11/2/2012, 6:25 PM
Seeing the words "Hamill is locked in" makes me feel all warm and fuzzy
pointman - 11/2/2012, 6:29 PM
I hope the Hamill thing is true. Im sick of hearing all the haters say how he should be recast. the original cast was what made those movies special..............plus I love a comeback!
FOOM - 11/2/2012, 6:43 PM
If this turns out to be true then I don't see how anyone can bitch at this stage.
Boekelaar - 11/2/2012, 6:48 PM
If by restore the original trilogy I hope they mean to 97 (or whatever year it was) special editions. Having seen the originals, the special edition, the DVD special edition and now the blu ray edition I think that the first little tweaks were the best. Cloud City looked amazing and adding Jabba back into the first movie really works. Maybe they'll make Han shoot first again.

Oh and I saw some people complaining about Spielberg because they're worried about a Lucas influence. People forget that Lucas has an amazing creative mind he just shouldn't direct. His stories are great but sometimes they need to be grounded by someone else which is what will be happening. Lucas said in one of the announcement videos that the treatments were written and he was handing them over to Kathleen Kennedy (who's also Spielbergs producer).
m0th3r - 11/2/2012, 6:54 PM
Please do the Killing Joke before Mark gets sucked back in and becomes too expensive....:)
