The future America is an irradiated wasteland. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

rookrey - 11/4/2012, 12:18 AM
Um, it's spelled "Pity" and "Sponsors". Just a brotherly correction. Don't hate me.
sinister84 - 11/4/2012, 12:41 AM
Sorry, English is not my first language.

And I agree with Danbojo. The movie of the year. Not better than the Avengers, but you know what I mean. I went to the movie theater expecting nothing but was a big surprise, a very solid movie that could have a great sequel, but i don't think we'll ever see

The Slo-Mo is an unexpected beauty, indeed. It's one of the movie's strengths - true, that it still captivates me how they turn the violence sequence into such a beauty - although it's also one of the movie's weaknesses, in a way; my local cinema stupidly only had the movie in 2D - sad considering the movie is the only one I'd deliberately watch in 3D - and in that format, the graphics particularly during Ma-Ma's last fall look pretty cheap. Not that I have much problem with it, though, because as I've said it still looked stunning in most parts.

I agree about the scale, anyway - I think the universe of Judge Dredd is quite vast it does feel a bit off to see the movie only set in this one main location, but I can't complain much because it's still an amazing movie overall, and I believe the sequel could fix that easily...what's shame is that the sequel has become very unlikely by now.
Jolt17 - 11/4/2012, 12:50 AM
novaprime: Maybe, but I'm glad that they'd rather do it right by keeping the mask on all the time than taking it off only in an attempt to pull more audiences...although it's true that the movie did poorly partly due to the people in general's lack of knowledge of the actor behind the mask, IMO.

I've seen a lot of people wondering going all, "Who?" regarding the actor behind the mask. And even so, Karl Urban isn't that big-named an actor yet to make people go see this movie. Yes, he's famous among us, but I'm dealing with average movie-goers everyday, and they barely know who Karl Urban is. No surprise there, because even after Avatar, they don't know who Sam Worthington is either!
Jolt17 - 11/4/2012, 12:51 AM
Oh, and I'm honestly glad that we get Lena Headey as Ma-Ma instead of the stocky version of the character.

PRIORITY ONE Bluray to buy ...
loki668 - 11/4/2012, 1:28 AM
I'm hoping that the Blu-Ray and DVD sales will do the impossible and make enough money to make them think about doing another one. Probably not. It's a shame to think that two films will do what Judge Death failed to: Kill Judge Dredd.

Lord Loki has spoken

this movie is a big improvement and brings nonstop thrills, and the visuals are definitely brand-new.....deserves a trilogy.....can't wait to owned this on blu-ray.

There are plenty of Judge Dredd stories set in one location.

maxleresistant: "nowhere in the article or in the videos the name of the man talking is mentionned"

They are business showreels for PRIME FOCUS to showcase their techniques to clients not promos for the director or cinematographer, why would they feature them when they don't work for Prime Focus?.

The VFX supervisorJOHN THUM is clearly identified by a name strap in the video.
MrChuff - 11/4/2012, 7:25 AM
We live in a world where a solid, faithful movie like Dredd fails at the box office but Resident Evil has multiple shit-smeared sequels?

How do I get the phuk off this spinning rock?
Ceejay - 11/4/2012, 7:32 AM
Jesus, people trying to make it sound like it was some amazing movie of the year undone by bad marketing, well it wasn't any where near the quality of any of the true movies of the year like Killing Them Softly, The Imposter, Argo, Looper, Farewell My Queen, Chronicle, A royal Affair or even most recently Skyfall.

Over the top violence and gratuitous slow motion shots do not a great film make. If they actually bothered with a decent story that made sense instead of the contrived nonsense going on in one place, then they might have had a movie worth watching for a general audience instead of a small bunch of clueless fanboys.

No matter where this movie came out around the world, it made peanuts, that says a lot about its appeal. Continue moaning but don't kid yourself this movie was some hidden gem! And just for the record this is why Stallone is still laughing..

Judge Dredd (1991) budget = $90 million, Worldwide Gross = $113.5 million.

Dredd 3D (2012) Budget = $50 million, Worldwide Gross = $23.5 million.

If they're smart they'd not waste anymore money making live action movies of Dredd and instead produce animated features where they can do the character and his world justice (excuse the pun) without ridiculous constraints.
marvel72 - 11/4/2012, 8:14 AM
good movie, can't for the blu-ray release in january.

@ ceejay

people are aloud to enjoy any movie how much they want, because you don't think the movie is amazing doesn't mean it isn't to someone else.
nailbiter111 - 11/4/2012, 8:50 AM
maxleresistant - do we have a problem? If you are going bitch and moan about something, you should actually know what you're talking about. As InstantJustice pointed out, the name and position are provided in the video. moron.
jimpinto24 - 11/4/2012, 9:05 AM
Dredd was a great comic book movie! I can't wait to get it on Blu-Ray.
SoulAllFlush - 11/4/2012, 2:21 PM
The film was enjoy but most who saw it. Sadly I don't see how the franchise can possibly continue though.

For this film to fall when Resident Evil persists is quite sad.
gaikinger - 11/4/2012, 2:31 PM
Ceejay-still trolling on Dredd huh? Dredd was the most kick-ass movie of 2012 in my opinion.
gaikinger - 11/4/2012, 2:33 PM
Their were a lot of good movies this year but the movie I went to see twice was Dredd and the movie that made me crave the immediate possession of the bluray.
BlueDemon - 11/4/2012, 3:45 PM
Great movie. It deserves a sequel
BlackfuryRises - 11/4/2012, 7:34 PM
Come on guys at least rent the film when it comes out!
dollstix - 11/5/2012, 6:11 AM
@weneedrevelation
Because it's a great film based on a comic book on a comic book movie website.
gaikinger - 11/5/2012, 11:19 AM
