"The goal on Spider-Man was to invent a very flexible bodysuit that created a lean, muscular body form beneath the form-fitting spandex. It also required a very specific streamlined shell to project heroic facial structure beneath the hood. In this early test, custom printed shadows and highlights help define the sculpted muscles. Although toned down in later iterations, this first test was an exciting success." - StudioADI

Spider-Man (2002) was directed by Sam Raimi ("Oz: The Great and Powerful"), from a script written by David Koepp. The cast included: Tobey Maguire, Willem Dafoe, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Cliff Robertson, and Rosemary Harris. The film had a budget of $140 million, and earned $821 million at the worldwide box office.

^ That is what the next Spidey suit should look like. Or an MCU Spidey.
Asterisk - 2/7/2013, 3:18 PM
Not trying to be a troll or anything. I've actually liked all the Spidey suits we've gotten on screen.

@jonathanismagnum

Jollem - 2/7/2013, 3:31 PM
they've done a lot of good stuff with spidey in the movies so far

Chloefornication - 2/7/2013, 3:36 PM
Back when Spider-Man looked like Spider-Man.
Magnus66 - 2/7/2013, 3:40 PM
I'm not a fan of the shoulders on that costume in the test footage. They looked too padded and obviously fake.
Odin - 2/7/2013, 3:44 PM
Back then it hadn't been that long since batman & robin, they had to be carefull when making costumes for superhero-movies.
thewolfx - 2/7/2013, 3:44 PM
@chloefornication

Preach!

If they can make this suit with more realistic material it will be pure win
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 2/7/2013, 3:45 PM
Best comic book movie suit in history.
Asterisk - 2/7/2013, 3:47 PM
I'd say second best, short only to

THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 2/7/2013, 3:50 PM
Asterisk
Reeves is more comicbooky, but I feel that spider-man's suit was able to translate the comic to movie without it looking (no offense) silly.
Asterisk - 2/7/2013, 3:53 PM
@THEDARKKNIGHT1939

Eh, you're probably right. To be honest, as a comic book fan, I guess I'm desensitised to the silliness, so I assume the comic costumes will always work. That's why I want to see Spidey, Wolvie, and Batman's straight of out comic costumes so badly on screen.
Azrael725 - 2/7/2013, 3:56 PM
i love this kind of stuff! I think the Raimi Spider-Man suits was done to perfection. The new one sucks in my opinion. It was funny i watched the whole thing and then at the end i was like "Holy shit it was Tobey in the suit!" haha
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 2/7/2013, 4:04 PM
Asterisk
Seriously. I want masked freakin Wolverine and a grey Batman. Hopefully one day that will happen.
emeraldtaurus - 2/7/2013, 4:05 PM

If you feel like the one they chose was the best choice......well that's the point of these tests.

What looks good in a still image may not look good moving.

I also don't see how the Amazing Spider-man suit is any more realistic. The new suit probably cost the same amount as the old. The same process was probably used to make it.

Cosplayers seemed very capable of creating the Raimi suits without destroying the bank, I don't see why in the universe that Peter would not have been able to create his suit. In both universes Peter doesn't need to pay people to design, test, and create his suit. He doesn't need to pay for some of the inking because in that universe those are his muscles. The suit is very basic in design. This was not the issue for cosplayers. The issue was recreating the little airbrushing tricks. Peter Parker wouldn't need to do that.
CoolantTech - 2/7/2013, 5:48 PM
Toby Maguires shoulder span was too short/small thats why he needed all of that padding in those area's.. Garfields body was much more of a fit for Spider-man than Maguire's and this proves that
ironspider12 - 2/7/2013, 7:17 PM
seeing those endings send chills down my spine. for [frick]s sake!
norseman79 - 2/7/2013, 7:23 PM
The painted on muscle makes it look like a halloween costume.
KNIGHT3000 - 2/7/2013, 8:51 PM
Way better
Jollem - 2/8/2013, 3:09 AM
^allow tracy morgan to respond

lostrojo - 2/8/2013, 3:23 AM
it has to be said riami nailed the spider-man costume, but i still prefer the TASM costume, i think it looks more real even if the eyes were a bit smaller and not white/metallic. it just felt more real especially with the trainers as shoes, dat just makes sense to me.
