BONUS! BONUS! THOR VFX BREAKDOWN BONUS! BONUS!

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds). Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax...he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

GREEN LANTERN was directed by Martin Campbell, from a script written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Michael J. Green, and Michael Goldenberg. The film starred: Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Tim Robbins, Taika Waititi, Temuera Morrison, and Angela Bassett.

This movie deserves a fvcking sequel! The production design was excellent, GL mythos is deep enough to make an awesome series of films. Just get the fvcking script right!

Where did it all go so horribly wrong :( Never been so disappointed in a movie, Green Lantern has great potential and was such a shame to see the movie suck.
HavocPrime - 2/18/2013, 3:20 AM
Hope we get another Green Lantern film some day that doesn't suck.
charlie2094 - 2/18/2013, 3:29 AM
Even the VFX weren't that good. A lot of it was the direction, but Oa only ever felt like a background. It never felt like a real place that the characters were in, always seemed to be in the distance. Not to mention the costume. I understand the reasoning behind it not being a proper suit, but I feel a real costume, with added VFX for the energy, would've looked far better. Just hoping we get another Lantern film, Geoff Johns' run on the character is one of my favourite comic runs.

A LOT of great VFX work on Thor!

Agree with Charlie2094, I do...

VFX Breakdown's are always good, so is the one with Green Lantern. Yeah, I'd be lying if I said I hate the CGI costume - in fact, I really like the texture it can achieve with pure CGI. However, if it costs so much it shreds the chance for the movie to put some more money on anything else, I'm fine with it being discarded in exchange for an actual costume. I always have this belief that CGI is best utilized to enhance rather than to craft, and I think that's the main problem with this movie. Its lack of any practicality is disturbing.

On the other hand, Thor's is also stunning. It doesn't have as much "breakdown," but it's at least good to take a look back at its amazing visuals.

i'm so happy this movie failed EAT THAT SHIT geoff

I think we all understand why they went a CGI suit, but the end result was not worth it. I think they could have gotten a similar effect with a real suit. Sure it would be like the lighting and glow of the cgi but it would have been cheaper. It would also have solved the second effect. The makeup for Sinestro and Abin looked real fake in the suits. But in bts takes it looks fine.

They probably should have actually found a real location to represent OA. If the only real thing in your film are the human heads...........either make a full on CGI movie or build real things.

I lot of you are knocking the fact that they used a lot of CGI for this movie saying that you could produce the same effect with a costume. The thing is that in real life you whine when a person uses cosmetic surgery to make themselves look better, but when they try to use computer graphics to enhance what is already there you still whine. You need to make up your minds.

Furthermore the scene where Jordan is being analyzed was there to show that he was being studied (they had never seen a human before nor had one been a Green Lantern) and to flaunt his six-pack abs. I could see where us guys would not be impressed so much by that scene, but most of the other half of the audience was entertained by it - just like they were when they saw Chris Hemsworth shirtless in "Thor". Those types of scenes put a few extra seats in the theaters and that's why they are in there.

"Superman should wear weird alien suit but GL can't have a construct suit" I will never understand this logic

Can we please for the love of shit get a new Green Lantern movie and stop reminiscing about this SHITTY FILM!!!
darkbeefstakes - 2/18/2013, 9:43 AM
i don't understand all the resentment for the green lantern movie. It wasn't good, but you people make it sound like it was the second coming of the antichrist. Honestly, Thor was just as bad as green lantern and guilty of all the same thing you people accuse green lantern of (over use of cgi, uninteresting involving story, I think thor had even less action scenes than green lantern). I think both movies were forgettable, but I would not say they were terrible, just terribly disappointing.
fraggot - 2/18/2013, 10:49 AM
The weird thing is, I didn't care for the movie but it's what got me interested in Green Lantern. The story behind all of it and all the shit they didn't explain left me wanting to find out for myself.

So I've been reading Green Lantern ever since, slowly working towards Green Arrow since they have storylines that tie together.

But yes the movie was just awful, the Unrated/Directors Cut was slightly better cause they left it more of the back story of how Martin Jordan died and made him the man he is today.

They really messed up Parallax by making him a giant turd monster and just making that entire plot too simple and out of left field really. There are so many good story arcs they could have used but didn't touch a single one of them.
CeltiC527 - 2/18/2013, 11:16 AM
Well I loved the effects in the movie!

Why do we need a break down for the worst special effects since the added CGI to the original Star Wars trilogy.
Nomis1800 - 2/18/2013, 2:59 PM
At least the cumming moment in the making of the suit was nice :P
Ichaos - 2/19/2013, 2:10 AM
The suit might have been overkill using CGI but ummm kind of silly complain about "too much CGI" outside of that. Its friggin Green Lantern. Without CGI a green lantern movie would ot be possible.
