IRON MAN 2 Concept Art: Unused International Robots

During the Senate hearing scene, with Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark) and Gary Shandling (Senator Stern), you briefly saw a few failed attempts by the international community to make their own Iron Man armor. Come see some that didn't make it into the movie.

Conceptual illustrator, Scott Patton, was tasked with the mission to make the failed robots that other countries created in order to compete against Tony Stark and his Iron Man suit. You can see the scene with the international robots in the video below.

Also of interest, are variation of Ivan Vanko's (Mickey Rourke) whips. The original plan was to give Whiplash (Rourke) mini-whips, having his character be cunning, something akin to a James Bond-like role.

Russian Iron Man

North Korean Iron Man

Iron Man 2 was directed by Jon Favreau, from a screenplay written by Justin Theroux. The cast included: Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke. The film was a box office success, earning a total of $624 million worldwide, with a budget of $170–200 million.

Intersting

Marvel shouldn't have rushed this movie. They really had/have a great cast so this movie should have been better

All great work.., what happened with the sequel? I watch it from time to time.., but without Rockwell.., yikes! We all know what happened with that sequel. Like Patton would say....
Hexagram - 2/23/2013, 6:17 PM
My best friend, grew up in FL, is Iranian and he would be laughing his ass off at that design for many reasons(not negative.., relax)!
SamHell - 2/23/2013, 6:20 PM

um the Canadian one looks BADASS!!!!!!!!
BlackHulk - 2/23/2013, 6:31 PM
Iron Man II was a big waste of potential. Here are two things they could have done differently...

1. Allow Whiplash to live. Allowing him to live could have definitely set up a Masters of Evil plot for an Avengers movie. Matter fact, while I liked the Avengers, I think the first movie should have had the Masters of Evil as the villain.

2. Ditch the whole "Iron Man is dying" subplot. Ditching it would have eliminated the need for Nick Fury and Black Widow to take over the movie the way that they did.
ComicBookGoth - 2/23/2013, 6:35 PM
the Canadian suit looks very un-canadian.

CRIMSON!

To the person: Marvel79. I'm that far. Yes.., I agree! The score(someone stated it's Zimmer's intern)during those sequences was magic! I lived in FL for years and yes I just used "magic" as an adjective.
marvelstudios - 2/23/2013, 6:47 PM
Well that's not right. Iranians don't wear that.
ahhmynuts - 2/23/2013, 6:58 PM
that whip is badass. the version they used was more practical tho.
arashini - 2/23/2013, 7:00 PM
this movie really blew.
Hexagram - 2/23/2013, 7:04 PM
@marvelstudios

Missed the point.., but I see you.., I hear you..., and it's not Khan. :-D
TheSuperguy - 2/23/2013, 7:09 PM
I consider IRON MAN 2 to be the weakest link in the MCU...

That being said, it wasn't that bad

Am I the only one who thought "THE WHO !" when I saw the second England one ? Yes ? Ohh...

I just watched the hearing scene a couple days ago. Laughed my ass off, this is magic ! Never understood why people were bitching on that movie. Okay, it had giant robots as the treath ONCE AGAIN. Not a big deal.
sameoldthing - 2/23/2013, 7:32 PM
Wow!.. That "IRON FETT" pic is Badass!
Jollem - 2/23/2013, 7:34 PM
canada ain't [frick]in' around
ThePowerCosmic - 2/23/2013, 7:46 PM
I thought Iron Man 2 was a near perfect sequel. Wrapped up a little too quick at the end, but other than that, fantastic! Too many complainers about this film.
Jollem - 2/23/2013, 7:49 PM
^too many complainers about anything that can possibly be complained about :)
superotherside - 2/23/2013, 7:50 PM
It was a great movie. Not as good as the first one but still a great movie. I thought it was great till the second act it was really boring until about the 3rd act.
beane2099 - 2/23/2013, 8:03 PM
I've said this before, but it bears repeating. Most folks had no expectations for the first Iron Man film. But it turned out to be awesome. The disparity between expectation and reality was ginormous. After IM, people had high expectations for IM 2.

To use numbers, let's say people's expectations for IM were about -2 to 2 and it turned out to be like an 8 or a 9 (figuratively speaking, don't go all hibidy gibbidy about "it was a 7 at best" or whatever). Anyways, after that, people were expecting IM 2 to be at an 8 or greater. But Iron Man 2 was like a 7. So it wasn't a bad film, it just didn't meet the same level as IM. But honestly, there's no way they could have met that. So overall, I think the movie was fine. The end was a little abrupt, but I still liked it.
GodzillaKart - 2/23/2013, 8:04 PM
Flawed movie with a great cast and many great moments. I mean, let's be fair: it makes Batman Begins look like a stinking pile of dog poop, but it could have been so much better.

:P
GodzillaKart - 2/23/2013, 8:07 PM
They really should have let Rourke's performance have a more prominent role. My understanding is most of it ended up on the cutting room floor.
Jollem - 2/23/2013, 8:10 PM
flawed movie, but i don't hate it. any one of the dark knight trilogy easily stomps the shite out of it :)
Darthzilla - 2/23/2013, 8:12 PM
Arabian one is very ED-209-ish
bazinga85 - 2/23/2013, 8:23 PM
Iron Man 2 was really dumb.

Chloefornication - 2/23/2013, 9:42 PM
As usual, the concept arts are better than what whas shown in the movie.
valeriesghost - 2/23/2013, 9:45 PM
there was a reason why this was left out of the movie. Good decision Marvel.....
Super12 - 2/23/2013, 9:57 PM
