GREEN LANTERN Concept Art: Alternate Creature Designs & Unused Constructs

Conceptual illustrator, Alfonso de la Torre, has uploaded his artistic contributions to the Green Lantern online and they include alternate designs for the Green Lantern Corps, Oa civilians, and unused constructs created by Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds).

Artist, Alfonso de la Torre, had the pleasure of working on 2011's Green Lantern. He developed establishing visual effects shots with Nick Pugh, and creature designs with Neville Page and later on at the Aaron Sims Company. One of his more notable contributions was the sword construct that you see in the training scene between Hal and Kilowog. What you didn't see were constructs like, a hockey stick, bulldozer, dump truck, and a pickup truck, just to name a few. The rest you can see below. It even appears, from these images, that Kilowog (voiced by Michael Clarke Duncan) would've created a giant spider-like creature to attack Hal during that training session.

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. GREEN LANTERN was directed by Martin Campbell, from a script written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Michael J. Green, and Michael Goldenberg. The film starred: Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Tim Robbins, Taika Waititi, Temuera Morrison, and Angela Bassett.

It's a shame that hundreds of artists put a ton of work into this movie, and the director (and probably studio) basically phoned it in.

Don't know why they didn't go all out about all those amazing sequences they had planned for in the original script. The actual final product left too many things to be desired for...this really sometimes felt like a lazy decision (Before production: "wow, look at all those amazing things we can do. We gonna do all of those in the movie to wow the audience in a BIG way!" During the production: "you know what, people's expectation are high. It is the comic book movie so many fans gonna go watch it anyway, why the heck make all those efforts? We've done enough for this one. Call it a wrap and release the movie as soon as possible!" and then, after the release "f#ck, I hope we'd tried harder on this one and stuck to the f*cking plan!!!!!"

For the unevitable GL reboot,Bradley Cooper should replace Reynolds as Hal Jordan.make it a "full metal jacket" movie which takes place in space.they should go with The Manhunters as their first enemy,then Sinestro corps as the villains in the sequel with John Stewart introduction include,and the third army in the threequel for the final enemy also with Guy Gardner introduction,and probably "pass the torch" scene from Hal To Kyle Rayner..

If i'd have bought the movie, I would have bought it only for the hockey stick scene ! Laughable, in a good way.

The movie wasn't that bad, but I thought it was Schumacher's campiness all over again. The suit is actually the only thing I loved from the movie.

This movie wasn't that bad but it wasn't that great either. The Oa scenes were enjoyable but overall it was a hugely missed opportunity.

The director was fine, he visualized the film very well and he got good performances from most. He certainly didn't 'phone' anything in, that's just silly. The actors were mostly fine. The story was crap, the script was crap, the effects were sometimes crap, and the editing was not great. That's not all or even mostly the fault of the director and it's not the studio that pumped $200+million into it- it's the writers, it's the decision makers, the producers, DC's executive liaison...all of whom happen to be Geoff Johns. He's not the only reason, but he's the only one who had a hand (or full control) in ALL of the above

Do people just slag this movie off because they want to be trendy and 'fit in'? yes it had its down falls but I personally enjoyed it and the way it ended could have been the platform for discussions of 'sequels better than the originals'

Only problems with this movie was the main villian was to to large in cosmic power for people to believe a rookie lantern could beat.They should had Carona scaled to size like in the comics.Hector Hamon should have remained human until the end like in an end credit scene or not used at all.Pralax should have been added in the second or third movie,probably take over Hal in the second,torch past to Kyle Rayner then finish with Hal redemtion in the third.This stuff pretty much writes itself.

My 5 year old could have come up with better constructs than the ones used in the film. The main problem I had with the the movie is that it had NO heart. I really didn't give a shit if Oa and Earth were turned to dust because the characters were just "meh".

None of the characters were ever really fleshed out... Kilowog and Tomar-Re could have been used much better.. instead they "welcome" Hal into the mix and then return at the films end to throw him a rope. YAY. Hal's earth buddy is just there for failed attempts at comic relief- useless. The only character really worth a second thought is Hammond and he's supposed to be the antagonist. FAIL

I grew up in Minnesota where hockey is king.When I moved to California I thought the same thing.Why would somebody who was not raised in a place where every park has a hockey ring in the winter or the lakes don't freeze over,play hockey?

To my surprise,Hockey has a following because one, both So Cal teams (The Kings and Ducks) have won a championship and two the Michael Jordan of Hockey, Wayne Gretsky played for the Kings back in the 80's.Most California people have never played the sport but they like winners and fill up stadiums in Anaheim and LA if a team is winning.

They totally shot themselves in the foot with the all-cgi suit. Not only did it burn up effects money and time where it wasn't needed, but it kept them from being able to show any decent shots of the hero until late in development, which crippled the marketing campaign.

A practical suit with some effects laid on top of it at times would have looked better, been cheaper, given them footage for generating early buzz and left more money for actual inventive action sequences that could have helped the film overall.

With the script they had and the approach they took, I don't know that it could have risen above being mediocre, but it certainly could have done better at the box office.

just saying.........Nathan Fillion as Hal, Keri Russell as Carol, keep Mark Strong as Sinestro, JJ Abrams Produce and Brad Bird to direct if a sequel ends up happening or for the justice league movie

The problem was that they had to put so much work, thought, and effort into creating what all this would look like for the first movie, they didn't have time left to actually do much of it. A second GL movie wouldn't have to create anything from scratch.

I think the effects were GREAT, just not enough of them.
I still loved the movie.

As great as Nathan is, he's just to old to play him now. i mean make up and getting him in shape maybie. but i doubt he would be able to make them for more then a few years,
