In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds). Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax...he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

GREEN LANTERN was directed by Martin Campbell, from a script written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Michael J. Green, and Michael Goldenberg. The film starred: Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Tim Robbins, Taika Waititi, Temuera Morrison, and Angela Bassett.

in the world's of kanye west "IT'S THE GREATEST MOVIE OF ALL-TIME!"
Shamo - 3/7/2013, 10:48 AM
should of got Nolan to oversee it. cool art thought, Parallax aside.
BruceWayneNewton - 3/7/2013, 10:51 AM
Hector looks cool here but Parallax was horribly portrayed and almost every scene on Earth sucked. Ryan wasn't the problem at all IMO. This movie could have kicked so much ass but instead it resembles something I would have lanced off a very sensitive area of my body.
JimmyPesto - 3/7/2013, 10:57 AM
Should've went with the earlier version and made its face look more terrifying
UVLantern - 3/7/2013, 10:58 AM
The earlier Parrallax design woulda killed it.
DC4everLantern - 3/7/2013, 10:58 AM
The movie wasnt that bad. Better a bad GL Movie insteed never a GL movie. Damn! Nolan should do the next movies.
BboiBlack - 3/7/2013, 11:02 AM
Parallax monster? Thank you Johns
DanteSparda - 3/7/2013, 11:03 AM
I can only see Ryan Reynold's Green Lantern, George Clooney's Batman and Halle Berry's Catwoman dancing in hell laughing at us.
Zordan - 3/7/2013, 11:10 AM
bring RR back on JL movie!!!

Good Concept Arts. ...Bad Movie
TheFox - 3/7/2013, 11:15 AM
It's a shame they didn't go with that crustacean-looking design for Parallax. First of all, it looks a LOT closer to the comic version, and secondly, it actually looks frightening (even if it IS rendered in a bright yellow).

Green Lantern was a major fumble in terms of storytelling. I've been over this over and over in my head, and I've come to realize that the biggest problem this film had is that Martin Campbell knew absolutely NOTHING about the structure of sci-fi storytelling. Instead of introducing us to our main character first and slowly introducing the sci-fi elements as Hal became aware of them, Campbell plunged us headfirst into one of the most convoluted and complicated science fiction mythologies in comic history from the opening title sequence-- thus ensuring that anyone who would find the premise silly had no reason to invest in what was happening on-screen from the get-go.

It's a damn shame. Structured better, and with a better script, this could have been amazing (they certainly did great work with the C.G., for the most part). Aw, well... Hopefully Warner Bros. can rekindle audience interest whenever they get around to doing Justice League (if they must).

What's with all the articles being taken down on here?!
AnditsOn1 - 3/7/2013, 11:20 AM
Those early concept arts are so badass, why the [frick] change all this? One answer: WB wants a shortcut (saving a few bucks and some efforts...)....
MJPETTY7 - 3/7/2013, 11:27 AM
I literally just got done watching the Extended Cut version of GREEN LANTERN and I have to say, it's NOT NEARLY as bad as people make it sound. I think the reason people didn't like it as much was because they were expecting something bigger, and that's no one's fault but the fans who blew the film out of proportion. I personally really enjoy this movie. I wish people liked it as much as I do, because it's really a fun ride if you go into it with the right mindset.
NillaSoul - 3/7/2013, 11:43 AM
Having collected GL comics since I was kid (Have GL #1) I was really excited when i heard this film was coming out. I have to agree that I think it was a matter of expectations and a couple of characters that were lacking, namely Fartallax, Carroll Ferris and Hal being such a daddy's wimp early on. Once he got the suit and some balls and made it out to space to OA I got chills. This was the Green lantern I knew and to see Tomar Re and Guardians brought a tear to my eye. Was it perfect? No, but not nearly as bad as the rage it receives.
AlexDeLarge87 - 3/7/2013, 11:46 AM
This could have been so good. Damn you WB for rushing with the script.:(
beane2099 - 3/7/2013, 11:47 AM
No, We didn't like this movie because 1) the villain was an amorphous cloud that was powerful enough to rip up a whole planet (and squad of GL's) in one scene but inexplicably had to run away from 2 cruise missiles in another, 2) The useless and awkward scenes involving Peter Sarsgaard and Tim Robbins 3) Blake Lively's bland and lifeless performance, 3) Hal Jordan's two minutes of GL training, 4) the complete lack of any meaningful character interaction (along with painful dialogue), 5) a story that made little or no sense and 6) characters who just made bizarre choices (e.g., "I just had an alien die in my arms but I think I want to go dancing all of a sudden."). I really could not have cared less if they stuck to the GL mythos I know in the comics. Doesn't matter to me. All I wanted to see was a movie that adhered to the basic rubric of storytelling and characterization. When you can't even get that right, the rest is inconsequential.
gmoney0505 - 3/7/2013, 11:57 AM
Great art for the movie. Just hate that someone with the genius mind had to make changes to parallax to what was a catastrophe on film.

RR was not the problem of the film. It was the structure of the story and no character development for the movie. Replace RR with another actor and you still got the same story that is just lacking. What was the reason for not showing Hal with his dad at the beginning like in the extended version so we could be emotionally invested into something. Instead they just shoehorned it in in the theatrical version.

Hopefully they can get people who can write a good enough story on their cmb property other than Goyer and Nolan. the guys wrote a pretty good 1st draft and whoever WB hired to rewrite it butchered so they can get the cost down to make the movie.

It just didn't make sense to take shortcuts on a movie just to spend that money on marketing. 75 million of they 100 million dollar marketing could have went into having a longer movie that could have had better storytelling in it and complete the CG in the movie.
Ancar - 3/7/2013, 12:11 PM
The problem with Green Lantern was the director. Campbell actually says in the Blu-ray extras that he was making the movie just for the money!!!
thatcoldblackcloud - 3/7/2013, 12:25 PM
So... basically ANYTHING they DIDN'T use looked better than what they did???
prettynucIear - 3/7/2013, 12:48 PM
This is a case where being true to the comics was a huge mistake. The costume is ridiculous. Next time ditch the costume and use some sort of green flame CGI instead
emeraldtaurus - 3/7/2013, 1:19 PM
hate to keep repeatin myself but .....Green Lantern (portrayed by Ryan Reynolds).......will be the Hulk of the JL movie

gonna steal the mother f**in show!
plasticman - 3/7/2013, 1:23 PM
I remember when we got the early Parallax design on good ol' CBM here. That would have been so much better and led to my disappointment that we ended up seeing something from The Mummy pretending to be Parallax versus that awesome design.
Shamo - 3/7/2013, 1:28 PM
if the JL film goes through, they should replace RR's Hal with Baz or Stewart for the JL movie.
LEEE777 - 3/7/2013, 1:36 PM
I loved the OA scenes in this, truly mind blowing, but comedy crap on Earth and too much Earth, and not made this the space epic it was supposed to be makes me personally sad inside...

Plus not even a Guy Gardner cameo grrrr lol : D

Cool pics!
LEEE777 - 3/7/2013, 1:38 PM
P.S, HAL JORDAN has to be in the JLA...

He is the original League member!

Same as BARRY ALLEN...

Leave STEWART and WEST for the sequels!
Nomis1800 - 3/7/2013, 1:51 PM
I fakking love some of those drawings!!! They should've stayed with the early Parallax design, especially that creepy head and the attack on Coast City: neat!

What could've been...
WeAreVenom86 - 3/7/2013, 2:23 PM
Mark Strong had some real [frick]ing intensity as Sinestro! He nailed it! All in all...the film wasn't bad...definitely could have been a WHOLE LOT BETTER. Ryan Reynolds was a good choice for Hal Jordan...but he would have been a better choice as Wally West. We would have preferred a different actress as Carol and would have wanted to see the damn space squirrel! Oh well. And We don't know if anyone can replace the voice of Kilowog since Micheal Clark Duncan. Oh well.
MotionPictureFilms - 3/7/2013, 2:59 PM
I was gutted when GL came out, the trailers made it look epic but it reminded me more of Ben 10 Alien Swarm than the massive space-based movie i hoped for.
GreenHalJordan - 3/7/2013, 4:04 PM
We need a sequel to redeem it. If we get a reboot, it will take too long for them to do, to try and add separation between the films. Although that could work too, it reduces the chances GREATLY that Hal will be in JL, and then there is no point to make a movie about Hal if they already have someone else.
BatOnTheBrain - 3/8/2013, 7:40 AM
Green lantern could of been awesome the movie should of stayed in space and u know what will be funnt marvel are going cosmic soon and the will do it better that green lantern cause if ur character is spaced based its probly better u leave him space to uknow have space adventures instead of keeping him on a planet that we all know we want to be taken to new worlds in movies like this and hal jordan would of been our anchor to this experience because he is a human. My personal fav part in green lantern was when toma ray was showing him a crazy construct and hal was blown away asking him to do it again that was the spirt of what should of been green lantern.
boyofsteel - 3/8/2013, 2:47 PM
@Emeraldtaurus I hope your right, that would be saaaaweeeeeett
xStarLordx - 3/8/2013, 3:02 PM
I liked the movie.
UrbanTheEmcee - 3/18/2013, 1:48 PM
Warner Bros needs to sell the rights to DC, to a company who actually cares, and isn't ran by dinosaurs who don't give two shits about the source material, just the money that can be made from the product.

The main reason people were so pissed about GL, was that the trailers portrayed a totally different movie, than the finished product was. As long as WB has the DC rights, we will never reach our full on screen potential.
MightyZeus - 6/2/2013, 10:58 AM
Damn. They look good but too bad the final product turned out like space poop.

Reboot Green Lantern.
