THE AVENGERS' Clark Gregg To Join 'DANCING WITH THE STARS' Season 17
Actor Clark Gregg, or better known to us, Agent Phil Coulson of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will be competing in season 17 of ABC's hit reality-television show, Dancing With The Stars.
At last night's 23rd Annual Television Critics & Media Dinner, TMZ spoke with Senior Vice President of ABC Reality Television Programming, Buddy Rydell. During the conversation Mr. Rydell was asked which celebrities might be joining the cast of season 17 of Dancing With The Stars.
"Season 17 is so, so far away, I really don't even want to think about it right now. Especially, since we just started season 16 a few weeks ago. Which by the way is going really, really well. We at ABC, are so delighted with the ratings. All of the key demographics have been experiencing moderate upticks. Which I'm sure I don't have to tell you, it's really rare for a show that has been on the air as long as they have. I can offer you this morsel, we recently received confirmation that... Clark Gregg will be joining the cast. We just have to make sure that there are no scheduling conflicts with Joss' (Whedon) show, and then we can proceed with a formal announcement. Although I think you can pencil him in, I feel that confident. He'll make a great addition to the cast and I anticipate the audience is gonna just fall in love with him. Funny, we've been pursuing Clark, off and on for a few years now, ever since his wife, Jennifer (Grey), was competing on season 11. Or maybe that was season 12, I don't even know any more."
What makes this so intriguing is that Clark's wife, Jennifer Grey ("Dirty Dancing") didn't just compete on Dancing With The Stars (season 11), but actually won it. Her and her partner Derek Hough hold the record for the most perfect 30s in a season, with a total of six. Perhaps Clark Gregg can best his wife with seven perfect 30s? I'll certainly be rooting for him, that's for damn sure.
Clark Gregg will next been seen in Joss Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot, which will also air on ABC. It's quite possible that Gregg was asked to be on DWTS as a way to promote Joss' new show, but that is just speculation on my part. I would assume it would be a great way to increase Gregg's star power with different demographics. As of right now only the teens and young adults know Gregg, and that's from minor, but pivotal roles in the first two Iron Man films, Thor, and of course Whedon's monster blockbuster The Avengers.
Hopefully Clark Gregg is paired up with a phenomenal dancer, as I think most of us would go nuts if he came away with the prestigious Mirror Ball trophy. Good Luck Clark!
