Jon Favreau On The Possibility Of Robert Downey Jr. Returning For IRON MAN 4

Not that he actually knows anything for certain, but during a video interview for his new movie Chef the Iron Man 2 director says that he's about to go pay a visit to the Avengers: AOU set, and that he'd like to see RDJ return to the role...as long as he still fits in the suit!

There's still nothing set in stone regarding a fourth solo outing for Marvel's Iron Man, but with the third installment making so much coin it's definitely a strong possibility at some point. Would it still be Robert Downey Jr. under the helmet though? Well after Avengers: Age Of Ultron we really don't know what's on the cards, but one man who definitely thinks he should have another blast in the suit is RDJ's former Iron Man director Jon Favreau. In the following interview with Flicks And The City, Favreau talks about once again working with Downey Jr. and Scarlet Johansson on his new movie Chef, and the likelihood of the former playing Tony Stark in a fourth Iron Man film.

You'll notice the interviewer doesn't ask Favreau if he'd have any interested in returning to helm a fourth outing -- though if he's visiting their set, relations can't be that bad between he and Marvel. Would you like to see him direct the next Iron Man? Or is the franchise in better hands with Shane Black? Sound off in the usual place.

i hope robert downey junior does come back for iron man 4. he is the best thing that has ever happened to movies. he really broke the mold. the iron man movies are not only the best comic book movies ever, but they are the best movies of all time. they are a metaphor for the human condition. transcendent on another level

RDJ is easily the BEST thing that's ever happened to Iron Man.

Azbat - 6/10/2014, 4:30 AM
RDJ as Iron Man is the second-best casting choice for a comic book character ever. The first being Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.
SuperCat - 6/10/2014, 4:31 AM
FLAME WAR COMIN'!!!

Tuuralihn - 6/10/2014, 4:31 AM
So it seems Favreau is signed on for IM4. Let's hope they get RDJ and whip up a great script.
JordanKing - 6/10/2014, 4:33 AM
@BatManiac Iron Man?! He's the best thing to have ever happen to Marvel as a film company!
TheAbaryMan369 - 6/10/2014, 4:34 AM
As long as it isn't shit like last time.
CherryBomb - 6/10/2014, 4:35 AM
If they do make an IM4, I wanna see Madame Masque as the main villain.
It's sad that we don't have a big bad female villain in the MCU. They're always the "minions" or second string to the male villains.

CherryBomb - 6/10/2014, 4:36 AM
They'd definitely need to step up their game.
Thor 2 and IM3 were bad. Especially with Captain America 2 being so freaking good, Marvel needs to take more care with their other sequels
GamerKT - 6/10/2014, 4:39 AM
I hope not. He's gonna be way too old way too soon.
JordanKing - 6/10/2014, 4:40 AM
@CherryBomb IM3 was not a bad film. Fans just don't like change. It was a solid action/comedy Marvel film. Catwoman is a bad film, Batman and Robin is a bad film, Ghost Rider is a bad film, Iron Man 3 is not.
CherryBomb - 6/10/2014, 4:41 AM
@GamerKT

But the great thing about it is that he's in a CGI iron suit. RDJ ageing isn't a problem just yet, not like other heroes like Jeremy Renner, Hemsworth and Chris Evans.
Azbat - 6/10/2014, 4:41 AM
@jordanking

anyone who denies that the Iron Legion was awesome is lying.

CherryBomb - 6/10/2014, 4:42 AM
@JordanKnight

The production of it was great, but the story fell flat for me, it had a lot of unnecessary moments and moments that should've been developed further. All the others you mentioned are terrible movies not just bad.
Jollem - 6/10/2014, 4:43 AM
i mean, right? that's what we're supposed to say to people who say something bad about the studios?
CherryBomb - 6/10/2014, 4:43 AM
@Jollem

My bad!

The only real problem I had with Iron Man 3 was the ending. I felt like they spent too much time elsewhere, and were left with two minutes for a 10 minute scene.

I did like the "You create your own demons" thing. nice way to set up Ultron
CherryBomb - 6/10/2014, 4:45 AM
RDJ should play Tony until he's at least 60.

'sallright. just...watch it -_-
SuperDude001 - 6/10/2014, 4:48 AM
Tbh he will be pretty old, but I think that should be incorporated into the story. Right now in the MCU it's pointless to recast him to carry it on, seems desperate, it would be better to do one final movie with him acknowledging his age (and perhaps the others of the Avengers and so on so that it can develop into new teams) and then closing his main stories whilst leaving it open for someone to take over if they want one.
Azbat - 6/10/2014, 4:49 AM
@SuperDude

True. I just hope they don't kill him instead of Cap.
Lozzy - 6/10/2014, 4:51 AM
I love IM3 so much that I don't want to see an IM4. The movie had such a perfect ending to the RDJ Iron Man series.

Jollem - 6/10/2014, 4:51 AM
@Ror - i understand why that had to go. the amount of reporting probably would have crashed the site. i've had worse
charlie2094 - 6/10/2014, 4:53 AM
Definitely think RDjr will be doing an Iron Man 4, going to happen with or without him and don't see him leaving the role behind quite yet. Be cool to see Favreau return to direct too, not sure what the chances are. Though if they were to follow on from All Hail the King, with Favreau and Downey might seem too much like Iron Man 3 should've been :P

Think we need an Iron Man 4 to close it off a bit. Need to give him a major, memorable villain (preferably Mandarin + The Ten Rings group) that all heroes deserve and a good send off. Wouldn't want IM3 to be Downey's last, deserves a Winter Soldier quality film as a send off
DestroyallTroll - 6/10/2014, 4:53 AM
Hmmm...
RorMachine - 6/10/2014, 4:54 AM
Iron man 3 was ..good. It was an entertaining action comedy, but it wasn't anything more than than. Compare it to Cap 2.

Nuff said.
GerMan - 6/10/2014, 4:58 AM
they should bring back shane black because his movie was marvel´s best story-driven movie so far (but i didn´t watch the winter soldier and thor 2 yet).
AsgardianHobo - 6/10/2014, 4:59 AM
Hate on RDJ all you want, but he he helped open up the doors for more CBMs.

@Manitium

Shane Black had freedom to do what he wanted, is that what you want instead? /sarcasm
GeekyCheekyChic - 6/10/2014, 5:00 AM
Not really feeling another Iron Man film unless its a team up and I don't mean War Machine or even Black Widow. If Marvel really is tentative on a Hulk movie then team up Banner and Stark. Iron Man/Hulk team up movie ? they'd be sweeping up box office dollars
charlie2094 - 6/10/2014, 5:01 AM
Interesting the way Favreau talked about it, how he's had a few movies off, visiting the Avengers 2 set etc. Likely reading too much into it, but would be fantastic to see him return for an Iron Man 4, think Marvel need something like that after all the Edgar Wright stuff. Definitely want to see what he'd do if he came back, IM3 was fun, but not much else
AsgardianHobo - 6/10/2014, 5:01 AM
@Jollem

Paint me like one of your French girls

Maven - 6/10/2014, 5:02 AM
RDJ and Jackman age damn well.
Starkasm - 6/10/2014, 5:02 AM
Yes please.

Iron Man 5/5
Iron Man 2 4/5
Iron Man 3 3/5
Batmaniac - 6/10/2014, 5:02 AM
If Marvel do make an Iron Man 4, I hope Favraeu directs. He deserves another shot at an Iron Man movie in my opinion, since Iron Man 2 wasn't entirely his fault.
PANTHER93 - 6/10/2014, 5:03 AM
I don't want to see anymore iron man movies unless it's a team up movie we need more diverse characters on the big screen
TheBrotherhood - 6/10/2014, 5:05 AM
@MantiniumMan

I think it was Edgar Wright's vision that was too far for the MCU to handle, remember, nobody is bigger than the MCU!

But at some point marvel seems kinda Hyrdra-ish on that sitch.

Cut off one head (Wright), two more (Reed and McKay) shall take its place.
