There's cash to be made in the Middle Kingdom -- something Hollywood has definitely copped onto. Marvel earned a few extra dollars at the Chinese box office when Iron Man 3 shot certain scenes specifically for that territory, and now Michael Bay has taken this to a whole new extreme by casting the likes of Li Bingbing and Han Geng in prominent roles, and actually moving the action in Transformers: Age Of Extinction to China in the final act. Audiences there have evidently lapped it up, as THR report that the flick become China's highest grossing film of all-time after being out for just two weeks. The fourth Transformers movie has earned $222.74 million, surpassing the $221 million record held by Avatar. Currently sitting on $575 million worldwide, it doesn't look as if Bay's latest beast will be slowing down anytime soon.

There is no response to this that somebody won't interpret as racist.
TheRationalNerd - 7/8/2014, 8:42 AM
Despite the differences we all had when it came down to what we thought of the film. I'm pretty sure we can all agree that this theme was too tense and legendary!

bad movies ALWAYS make more money in US than any other country but now that T4 has made more money in China is because they love bad movies?

People can be so hypocrite sometimes
TheRationalNerd - 7/8/2014, 8:53 AM
@SuperCat

I loved Galvatron in this one. Nothing too over the top nothing too little but just enough to engage you on what the sucka had planned next!

charlie2094 - 7/8/2014, 8:57 AM
Just don't understand, doesn't at all deserve it...least they only take a small cut of China's b.o, like 25%..

China's becoming a huge market for these films
CherryBomb - 7/8/2014, 8:57 AM
Not happy for the movie BUT I'm happy for Li Bingbing.
SageMode - 7/8/2014, 8:58 AM
So [frick]in undeserving.
sKeemAn - 7/8/2014, 8:58 AM
Wow, this movie will make a lot of money. All because they moved production to China. You gotta love how they rep there country.
BlindJustice - 7/8/2014, 8:59 AM
I'm guessing China has built more theaters since Avatar then? >.<

@ TheBlackNerd

I agree! Just wish we saw more of him :(
InfiniteMonkey - 7/8/2014, 9:04 AM
Glad this movie is doing well so they can make more because with every iteration of Transformers, conventional thinking would dictate that they will be that much closer to making something that is actually very recognisable from the source material...[frick], who am I kidding, this is Hollywood. LOL
Doopie - 7/8/2014, 9:04 AM
If Bay directed Spider-Man, it might actually make some decent money
blackandyellow - 7/8/2014, 9:05 AM
And people still think TMNT won't make money ...
blackandyellow - 7/8/2014, 9:06 AM
I'd like to see Transformers 5 go against Star Wars 7 and Avatar 2.
Bailkurn44 - 7/8/2014, 9:07 AM
What.....
charlie2094 - 7/8/2014, 9:07 AM
@Infinite

I too like to think the success of these films means that once they get to doing an inevitable reboot, they might actually make it recognizable, feature the likes of Cybertron, develop the characters etc. Actually be happy with a prequel series using the same character designs (about the only decent thing in the films) showing the Fall of Cybertron.

Heard the final scene maybe points in the direction of more space, but think most people have since learned that they don't deliver, so not anticipating much from the next one, or two.
JamesMan - 7/8/2014, 9:08 AM
Kind of expected when they pander to the Chinese audiences. Shows that the American government is incompetent and untrustworthy while the Chinese government are our one true communist heroes.

HavocPrime - 7/8/2014, 9:08 AM
If you blink, or go completely brain dead during the film you will miss the reason why they decide to go to China.
BaneSmash - 7/8/2014, 9:08 AM
I liked it, Went in not expecting much...... I came out entertained! Lockdown was badass!
lexxust - 7/8/2014, 9:09 AM
now all future blockbusters will have a scene in china, and maybe a chinese actor or two.
Bekss - 7/8/2014, 9:10 AM
b&y

Avatar 2 won't make as much as the first one. All the 3D hype is over and that's why everyone saw the movie multiple times.
DrLecter - 7/8/2014, 9:10 AM
Well... I honestly don't know what to think of this. Did they like it that much because there were scenes in China?
billnye69 - 7/8/2014, 9:11 AM
Big Shock that a giant robot movie does well in Asia. It's not like they have anime featuring giant robots or nothing.
Thelastdalek - 7/8/2014, 9:12 AM
@InfinitMonkey

To be fair when did any of the various incarnations of Transformer have more than a vague resemblance to each other.

I don't plan on seeing this but it's nice to know that some people enjoyed it.
Arrowhead77 - 7/8/2014, 9:13 AM
Jokes on you, China!! We have been buying your Crap products for years, and now we finally get you to spend big money on one of our crappy products! SWEET REVENGE! LOL
