VIDEO: Do THE AVENGERS Consider Themselves "Nerds"?

In another compilation vid from San Diego Comic-Con, USA Today ask some of the stars of Marvel's Avengers: Age Of Ultron (and Ant-Man's Corey Stoll) if they would consider themselves nerds, ie comic book geeks. Most of 'em do...now anyway!

I'm not sure they're actually using the word nerd in the right context here. I know in the UK and Ireland a nerd suggests someone who excels academically, while a geek is the term more used to describe a "fanboy" type. Anyway, Sam Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans and Corey Stoll all seem to get what USA Today are asking -- and being British, Paul Bettany answers accordingly!

Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Cobie Smulders Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, with Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, and James Spader. The film is set for release on May 1, 2015.

I'd say Mark's a nerd. Not sure about the rest.

I just finished watching the Avengers: Age of Ultron SDCC panel and out of all of the people there on that panel I feel that Chris Evans has the most heart and compassion for the character he plays. Everyone else was stumbling getting out the info about their character in the film but Chris really has the fluency and instant recognition of where he is within this franchise. I can see why so many people applauded for him he's a great guy. (Just like any of the other guys up there)

Evans is honest..almost to a fault. He admitted to another crowd that he thought Snowpiercer didn't make any sense at all..although he loved it.

A nerd is someone who is usually overly intelligent but socially akward, but don't necessary have to be into comics. sci-fi, etc.

I think she meant to ask if they are "geeks".
Pasto - 7/28/2014, 5:35 AM
Nerds? No. Fans? Maybe. People who read the comics that the films they star in are based on so that they understand the characters they are portraying? Yes. So many people use the term 'nerd' lightly. Not that these actors using it is a bad thing, but I just think it should be clarified.
Pasto - 7/28/2014, 5:36 AM
@Nomis
Exactly. I'd lean more towards 'geeks' than 'nerds'.

Aaou is going to be the best :D
mgeoff88 - 7/28/2014, 5:40 AM
I would say both nerd and geek are acceptable.
TheRationalNerd - 7/28/2014, 5:49 AM
Man I just listened to a better quality sound from the trailer and Spader is going to nail it as Ultron.

Just wondering if we'll at least get some pics from the footage shown there. I have a feeling we won't be seeing any footage anytime soon. :( *fart*
blackandyellow - 7/28/2014, 5:59 AM
Well most actors are just theater fruits anyways.

@TheRationalNerd, Just listened to the version you mentioned. While I was there, they also have a Lego trailer for A:AOU on the same page, check it out.

I'm a nerd for big boobs. I'm also a geek for them. I am gay for big boobs too. I'm not racist against small boobs. I am a complete fanboy of small boobs. I pretty much enjoy boobs no matter what.
DarkGrifter - 7/28/2014, 6:35 AM
At least they're not like the cast of the Big Bang Theory who will take every opportunity in every interview to ensure people know that they aren't really geeks/nerds.

My God, that show sucks so bad.
Atumbem - 7/28/2014, 6:48 AM
Where's the video?
acidbath - 7/28/2014, 6:49 AM
any man found in a hotel room smoking crack with a wonder woman costume in the closet it is a true nerd.....god bless you rdj
DrunkenNukem - 7/28/2014, 6:51 AM
they could be fans of superheroes...but they are not geeks or anything like that...
DrunkenNukem - 7/28/2014, 6:52 AM
@DarkGrifter

Those guys are douchebags

I don't think any self-respecting "nerd" would want to be in an Ultron movie without Hank Pym. That's ok, they don't have to be nerds. This is just more pandering.
Andree24 - 7/28/2014, 9:31 AM
They're not nerds OR superheroes. They're working actors, folks!
mmadadamm - 7/28/2014, 10:40 AM
Its crazy how much Darren Cross resembles and sounds like a young Kevin Spacey. I liked his answer too.
silverhawk - 7/28/2014, 10:48 AM
Just from that interview I'm going to say Darren Cross, Mark Ruffalo and maybe maybe Jackson are comic book readers.
RexDartEskimoSpy - 7/28/2014, 11:17 AM
Sam Jackson is a huge comics geek. That's why he says yes to any movie or credit card commercial he's offered: comics ain't cheap these days. (Also golf, for reasons I'll never understand. Great way to ruin a walk through a park.)
RexDartEskimoSpy - 7/28/2014, 11:19 AM
And CLEARLY Chris Hemsworth is a giant nerd. Probably sits in a dark basement playing Warcraft all day, the pasty little twerp.
BlindJustice - 7/28/2014, 2:06 PM
Well, at least we know one member of the MCU family who is definitely a nerd!

BatManHeisenberg - 7/28/2014, 4:02 PM
I agree with Mark, geek is pop culture obsessed, games etc. while a nerd is a socially awkward highly achieving academic student. Funny thing, I'm both. I do well in school(when I put in the work..) and I am a bit socially awkward... and I am obsessed with CBM's and Magic: The Gathering. People who work on CBM's can sometimes be geeky with their CBM love(like Snyder and Whedon) but people like Nolan are really not as astute with the material. The actors are the same... Some can be huge fans (Affleck, Ruffalo) while others, who are usually more well known, often time british shakespearean actors, don't know the material much, if at all, like Hopkins or Caine.
