UPDATE: Kyle MacLachlan Reportedly Joins AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. As 'The Doctor'

According to io9, Kyle MacLachlan (Dune, Twin Peaks) will appear in the second episode of the upcoming second season of Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. as a character referred to only as The Doctor. Strange, eh?

Okay so it's probably not THAT Doctor, but in another bit of news from io9, it seems Twin Peaks veteran Kyle MacLachlan will be showing up in ep 2 of the second season of Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. as some kind of practitioner of medicine/science..and it's unlikely to be a in a scene with Coulson looking for a prescription for the flu. They also report that Glenn Talbot (Adrian Pasdar) will be back to give the team headaches in the season premiere.

"A source tells io9 that the premiere will see the return of Adrian Pasdar's Glenn Talbot, and that the second episode will guest star Kyle MacLachlan as "The Doctor."

To be fair though, this show does feature a great many nonspecific doctors, scientists etc so it may just be a character written for this one episode -- but, it could also just as easily be an established character from the comics and MacLachlan will return for future appearances. Either way, he's a fine actor so it'll be interesting to see which role he ultimately ends up in.

UPDATE: TV Line report that MacLachlan will actually be playing Skye's father!

@Shroombeast @Frogman Nice, glad I'm not the only one who thought so.
kevberg - 8/7/2014, 8:49 AM
Glad Pasdar is back... Still say he should be Hal jordan, but he makes a decent Talbot.

Talbot should be a a annoying weasel. Pasdar plays him cooler than that.

Could be Phineas Horton or Malus or Darkoth. Gorilla-Man? Doc Samson recast?

AoS pulling another Deathlok. Not another hide-the-CBM-character's-true identity-with-fake-names.

@yoss

Hi Everybody!!

I wanted to be Dr. Nick when I was younger... Maybe that's why I never amounted to anything...
tongtong - 8/7/2014, 9:15 AM
I remember him better in Desperate Housewives and Showgirls.
Reasonnnn - 8/7/2014, 9:16 AM
@tongtong Ahh Showgirls, a classic "it's so bad it's good" movie.
ManCalledSting - 8/7/2014, 9:19 AM
Doctor Nick is awesome! I'm not against this guy, but I've never been impressed by his acting.
ManCalledSting - 8/7/2014, 9:19 AM
That said, I'd cry if he was Doctor Strange.
Gusto - 8/7/2014, 9:22 AM
I hope he's a better doctor than that
one that gave me a prostate exam at
that freeway rest area. He looked
strangely like a scruffy trucker.
CaptShipwreck - 8/7/2014, 9:23 AM
Loved twin peaks .... Too bad this cat never got his due after dune
Scorpion8125 - 8/7/2014, 9:25 AM
Gusto,

Just because the nice man gives you candy and says something about playing doctor doesn't mean you should jump in his windowless van exam room.

Gusto - 8/7/2014, 9:26 AM
He wasn't very doctor like at
all now that I think about it.
He smelled like Skoal and Busch Beer.
jessepostal - 8/7/2014, 9:27 AM

NovaCorpsFan - 8/7/2014, 9:34 AM
Think of characters that started out as doctors.
bropous - 8/7/2014, 9:41 AM
You know the thing about the old prostate exam, @gusto...

You're safe until you hear the jingle of change!
ChrispyG - 8/7/2014, 9:41 AM
If they are going to keep bringing back Talbot, then they REALLY should get Mark Ruffalo to guest star as Banner for at least an episode. Talbot is a Hulk character.
Lemons - 8/7/2014, 9:44 AM
To be fair though, there was a time Marvel published Doctor Who comics so...
