Alfred Molina Would Play SPIDER-MAN Villain 'Doctor Octopus' Again "In A Heartbeat"

Obviously it's very unlikely that Sony would use any cast members from Sam Raimi's original Spider-Man flicks in their rebooted franchise, but if it was ever on the table, it sounds like the awesome Alfred Molina would grab the opportunity with eight hands..

When (and if) Sony eventually bring their planned Sinister Six movie to our screens, word is that it'll be Doctor Octopus leading the team. One of Spidey's most recognizable foes, Doc Ock was the villain in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2, where he was played brilliantly by British actor Alfred Molina -- so is there any hope for a role reprisal? Well, since Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man movies kick-started a rebooted franchise it seems unlikely, but while chatting to Molina about his new movie Love Is Strange, Collider asked him about it anyway:

“That was the most fun I think I’ve ever had on a movie of that kind, you know, those big, big sort of features where you spend like six months hanging off a wire, you know, and that stuff. But it was the first movie of that kind that I’ve ever been involved in. I had a wonderful time. I loved it. I mean, I’d go back and do it again in a heartbeat.”

But Molina is well aware of how these things work, adding: "“The thing is, no actor owns those roles.” It is a shame though, especially when you consider how well regarded Raimi's trilogy (okay, the first two films!) are when compared to Webb's Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel. When it does come time to cast the character again though, there's no doubt they'll have lots of new talent banging on the door. Even Molina's Love Is Strange co-star John Lithgow fancies the gig: “Maybe they’ll come after me for Doc Ock … how about Doc Ock’s evil twin?”. I'd watch it! More at the link below.

I'd have him back in a heartbeat. I just hope they don't make Oc a cartoon character.
DefcoN - 8/18/2014, 6:14 PM
Sony, don't let this guy go.
Bekss - 8/18/2014, 6:15 PM
Yes please, and Spiderman 4 without any intervention from Sony
PAF - 8/18/2014, 6:15 PM
He was FANTASTIC. But no. Let them fix that damn mess of a franchise.
HavocPrime - 8/18/2014, 6:17 PM
I want to keep him away from this film series as it sucks, Molina was one of the best parts of the Raimi trilogy and him in this new one may lessen his already great performance from the shoddy scripts and direction.
CaptainObvious - 8/18/2014, 6:18 PM
He's too good for whatever half-assed, unnecessary Sinister Six movie Sony throws together.
MrMartinMarvel - 8/18/2014, 6:20 PM
And we'd bring you back in a heartbeat Alfred. It'll be pretty damn hard for Sony to find someone who can top your portrayal of Doc Ock.
npamusic - 8/18/2014, 6:21 PM
Yes! Bring him back..... to the Marvel Universe! ;)
npamusic - 8/18/2014, 6:22 PM

Inhuman - 8/18/2014, 6:28 PM
I gotta admit Spider-Man 2 is one of the best Marvel films
HypeXM - 8/18/2014, 6:33 PM
Jemaine Clement could be the next Ocatvius
Mercwitham0uth - 8/18/2014, 6:36 PM
He was the only good thing in that movie. Didn't like that the Octo Arms were able to communicate with him though.
Berserker187 - 8/18/2014, 6:36 PM

batz11 - 8/18/2014, 6:37 PM

UlisesMX - 8/18/2014, 6:37 PM

MexicanChinman - 8/18/2014, 6:40 PM
I'm good. I would rather see him as another villain or even a hero.
Indy - 8/18/2014, 6:41 PM
If Sony got Sam Raimi back with Tobey, J.K. Simmons and Alfred Molina for spider-man 4 I watch that in a heartbeat lol.
AnthonyLantern - 8/18/2014, 6:43 PM
He makes a great Lex Luthor
Asterisk - 8/18/2014, 6:50 PM
I'm pretty sure that if Sony decided to do Spider-Man 4 with everyone back including the excellent Mr. Molina, then they would seriously make 2 billion dollars.

HypeXM - 8/18/2014, 6:50 PM
Emile Hirsch if they do a younger Ock
the1egend1ives - 8/18/2014, 6:53 PM
Alfred Molina's Doc Ock was the original Heath Ledger's Joker
TheAstoundingMan - 8/18/2014, 6:54 PM
His character was a big part of what made that film the best Spidey film for me.

At this point, Sony will have a difficult time winning me back to the series. Bringing Molina back for a reboot only a decade later probably isn't the best idea however.
Jollem - 8/18/2014, 7:00 PM
neato. i could dig it. dude's a good actor. it'd be neat to see his ock exchanging barbs with andrew's spidey
Supes17 - 8/18/2014, 7:04 PM
He was an amazing villain
TheRationalNerd - 8/18/2014, 7:04 PM
He would own the role all over again!
Supes17 - 8/18/2014, 7:04 PM
Actually more of a tragic villain

Jollem - 8/18/2014, 7:11 PM
you can have your avengers. i'm all about the spider-man
TheAbaryMan369 - 8/18/2014, 7:13 PM
He's one of the reasons Spider-Man 2 was of the the greatest comic book movies back in the day, and still can be considered so now. His performance as Doc Ock was the best comic book villain of all time back in 2002. I'd love to see more of him, and while they're at it, bring back J.K. Simmons.
TheAbaryMan369 - 8/18/2014, 7:15 PM
And for that matter, get back Bruce Campbell so he can play Mysterio like he was destined to be. He probably won't do it because Raimi isn't involved anymore though, which only makes me sad they didn't get the chance to do that with Spider-Man 4 (which is what they SHOULD have done, not this Vulture bullshit).
SnapperCarr - 8/18/2014, 7:15 PM
He was a badass villain.
MrCBM56 - 8/18/2014, 7:16 PM
@Jollem what is that?
Meady - 8/18/2014, 7:18 PM
Jesus the new ones are crap
Jollem - 8/18/2014, 7:21 PM

Jollem - 8/18/2014, 7:22 PM

skeebolistic84 - 8/18/2014, 7:26 PM
Im scared of this franchise
Lawliet - 8/18/2014, 7:27 PM
please no, don't make him get involve this shitty mess reboot, please! and it doesn't even make sense please,
@Jolllem ewww that end credits doesn't excite me with the sinister six tease, ugh!
Jollem - 8/18/2014, 7:29 PM
@Lawliet - ...okay?
Starkasm - 8/18/2014, 7:32 PM
Garfield is Spidey. Nuff said.
Starkasm - 8/18/2014, 7:34 PM
Tasm2 had it's problems, which could have been an easy fix if they had of cut a couple sub plots and fleshed out electro and focused on Pete and Gwen.
I still love that film. That ending. Garfield was sensational.
