A cult classic, by Yasuomi Umetsu, renowned for its stylistically graphic depictions of violent action and sensuality, concerns a young woman named Sawa who, after the murder of her parents, is taken off the streets by a crooked, Svengali-like detective employing homeless children to do his dirty work. Trained to kill, she exacts street justice against the detective’s chosen targets, until she is able to break free of the abusive and manipulative control he has over her.

Kite stars Samuel L. Jackson as Karl Aker, India Eisley as Sawa, Callan McAuliffe as Oburi, Russel Savadier as Old Boy, Jaco Muller as Kratsov, Liam J. Stratton as Sawa's Father and Keci Eatock as Young Sawa. The movie hits DirecTV on August 28th, and VOD and theatres on October 10th., Callan McAuliffe as Oburi, Russel Savadier as Old Boy, Jaco Muller as Kratsov, Liam J. Yes because it worked so well the last time Hollywood made a movie based on the manga.(Dragonball Evolution)

Poster would be more anime-accurate if it read:

"Never underestimated a girl repeatedly raped by the corrupt police officer who murdered her parents in the first place"

Wow, that wig is just sitting high on her head.

Are they doing the explicit version or this will be PG13?

Umm...Edge of tommorrow is based on the manga "All you need is kill" and it got great reviews and reception , so I think if the manga based movie industry is treated like the western comic book movie industry , we could get a lot of great entertainment in the coming years.

Wow... I don't know who India Eisley is, but she is very beautiful.

I will admit I am intrigued but fairly skeptical. Since the original anime was fairly rapey, Im interested to see if they're going to go with the Old Boy route of hacking it to shit in the editing room and bastardizing the main plot to appease mainstream squeamishness...

Spike Lee's Old Boy was 140 minutes. After Producers were done...105 minutes including edits to the hammer fight scene. How do you "edit" a one-shot scene?!!! Ri-damn-diculous...

I'm hoping for a Director's Cut just to see the differences.

Any anime-to-live project should take copious notes from Keishi Otomo-san and them boys over at Studio Swan (Director and Prod Company that did Rurouni Kenshin and its two sequels). They're killin the anime2live genre right now.

Even including Edge of Tomorrow it's not even close.

It's a really common thing now a days for Directors to work with the original creators extremely closely when working on a project.

Robert Rodriguez did it with Frank Miller for Sin City, Guillermol del Toro and Mike Mignola worked on Hellboy together, Edgar Wright worked hand in Hand with Bryan Lee O'Malley for Scott Pilgrim, and Geoff Johns is one of the head guys for Arrow and the Flash.

This doesn't seem as easy to do with anime adaptations, but when people do work hand in hand with the original people - the work shows. It's actually rare when a creator can get the original peoples' visual ideas.

Unless it's one of the creators of Ninja Turtles, I can't remember who it was but he's like Stan Lee. He approves everything.
