Are WB Planning To Make WONDER WOMAN The DCCU Version Of THOR?

Yesterday, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice producer Charles Roven seemed to let slip a few details pertaining to the origins of the first big-screen incarnation of Wonder Woman. Are WB/DC positioning her to be their version of the MCU's Thor?

Towards the end of a video interview with THR, Batman v Superman: Dawn Of justice producer Charles Roven spoke a little about how this film would integrate the highly skilled but superpower-less Batman into the world established in Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel, essentially setting up the Justice League movie. One super-powered being the caped crusader will be encountering in these films is Diana of Themyscira, aka Wonder Woman, and according to Roven we can expect to see the modernized "New 52" take on the character's origins.

The classic DC telling of Wonder Woman's "birth" is pretty out there. Diana was created from clay, and gifted with the soul of the unborn daughter of the first woman to ever be murdered by a man. But the New 52 origin was much more conventional (well, we're still talking about Gods shagging here but you know what I mean) and saw Zeus and the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta, give birth to Diana, thus making her a Demigod. In the interview, Roven very clearly states: "“She’s a demigod. Her father was Zeus.”

Now providing he wasn't just referencing the new comic origin to avoid going into detail about how the movies will handle this, it's likely this is the back-story we'll get for Wonder Woman in Dawn Of Justice -- and that might turn out to be very similar to how Marvel handled the Thor character's transition to the big screen.

In the comics Thor is very much a God, but the movies tweaked this so that he and his kind were actually an alien race who were worshipped as Gods by primitive man, and so passed into legend. Similarly, the new 52 Wonder Woman origin keeps the clay creation story as the myth surrounding Diana's birth. See where I'm going here? I would not be at all surprised if WB/DC took a very similar approach when introducing Wonder Woman in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. The rumours pointed to her also being of Kryptonian descent, but my guess is they'll be aliens (or "inter-dimensional beings" if you prefer) known as the Amazons, and the people of Earth will be familiar with her people's exploits from Greek mythology, just as they were with The Asgardians from Norse mythology in the Thor movies.

To be honest, as much as I always liked the classic Wonder Woman origin, the New 52 take on it simply makes more sense for a movie adaptation so I'd be perfectly happy if this was the route they took. How about you guys?
