Third Riddick Movie In The Pipeline

Vin Diesel has Twittered that locations are being scouted for a Pitch Black threequel.
Last time anyone heard from director David Twohy or Vin Diesel about another Riddick movie was in August, when Twohy explained that he had been developing two ideas, one rated PG-13, the other rated R, but the studio was having a hard time picking either. Now, on Vin Diesel's official Facebook page, he reveals that

"the Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already… that's exciting."

It is, and it isn't. If the next movie turns out to be like Pitch Black then there is reason for excitement. If it turns out like the sequel, Chronicles Of Riddick...well, not so much.

So, three guesses which of the two ideas the gore mongers on this site are gonna be hoping for! Seriously though, leave the PG-13 ratings to Twilight movies for Gods sake.

10 Yes
2 No

Anil Rickly - 12/2/2009, 5:01 PM
Pitch Black = :)

Chronicles of Riddick = >:( times 20

As you can probably guess, I'm not too excited at the prospect of another Riddick movie.
InTylerWeTrust - 12/2/2009, 5:05 PM
Pass. I'd rather stick a hot poker in my eye hole than watch Diesel try and talk through the marbles he's hiding in his mouth. The dude drives me insane.
ecksmanfan - 12/2/2009, 5:07 PM
Dam it Ror u be me to it, I've been waiting months for this news. Good thou! Iam not a hater!
Spock - 12/2/2009, 5:09 PM
Pitch black was a pretty sweet movie, I really liked the suspense.

And while the second one wasn't anywhere near as good as the first, mostly because it was a different genre, I still enjoyed it. It was like conan in space.
thwhtGuardian - 12/2/2009, 5:12 PM
I didn't hate it...It was just so disappointing as a sequel to Pitch Black which I really liked. All that shit with the ghosty Judy Dench and the convulted plot..it was just over kill..and Diesel seemed to have stopped attending his acting classes since the first one.
RorMachine - 12/2/2009, 5:15 PM
would you call it a third Riddick movie cause Pitch Black was not really a solo movie about Riddick. i personally like The Chronicles of Riddick so im up for another one.
jazzman - 12/2/2009, 5:16 PM
LOL, I can't begin to explain how much i disslike these
movies. Nothing against Vin Diesel,he is a fine actor, but the only movie I liked him in was "Boiler Room"

This is a pass for me!

peterparker420 - 12/2/2009, 5:40 PM
It's about damn time. The Chronicles of Riddick (the director's cut) is one of my favorite sci-fi films of all time.
Montross - 12/2/2009, 6:09 PM
The Chronicles of Riddick had good intentions, didn't it?
Ryguy88 - 12/2/2009, 6:09 PM
i love the riddick movies
its putting Diesel into a role that suits him, not a lot of talking and killing things
it is a fantastic world that has so much room for expansion. This is a movie franchise i would be glad to see a an addition to
not [frick]ing fast and the furious
realfirstavenger - 12/2/2009, 6:12 PM
And Vin Diesel doesn't get parts based on his acting skills.
Ryguy88 - 12/2/2009, 6:12 PM
13th
Ryguy88 - 12/2/2009, 6:14 PM
BOOOOOOOO!!!!! Why is Vin Disel still acting, why?!?! Riddick had some cool action scenes and the plot was meh but I just can't stand Diesel in anything, even if he suddeny turned in the world's greatest performance I know I'd hate his [frick]ing guts. Seriously this guy needs to quit...pronto.
Ryden - 12/2/2009, 6:15 PM
Pass!!
The second one sucked balls!
Spilox - 12/2/2009, 6:26 PM
Both movies were [frick]ing Awesome, this'll be no different!!! ; D

VIN's the [frick]ing man!!!

Role on XXX3 too!
LEEE777 - 12/2/2009, 6:34 PM
The Pitch Black movie was a wonderful gritty real-
world sci-fi movie but Chronicles was just over-the-top and
unrealistic and credible! It was overblown and
forgot it's roots, gritty realistic sci-fi!

And I have a theory that the marbles Vin is trying to
talk around are HIS marbles that somehow leaked
out of his skull into his mushy mouth! lol
DDD - 12/2/2009, 6:37 PM
Pitch Black was really cool, I dug it a lot.

But Chronicles of Riddick was over-the-top, badly acted (I can't stress this enough), bad CGI, and just plain stupid.

Vin Diesel, go back to getting killed off in the first half-hour of good movies, like in Saving Private Ryan. That's where you truly belong now ;)
InTylerWeTrust - 12/2/2009, 6:49 PM
I actually loved Pitch Black, and I actually liked Chronicles of Riddick. I hope they do make a sequel, but I would like more realism.
THEHAWK - 12/2/2009, 7:07 PM
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!! CANT WAIT!
WarNoodle - 12/2/2009, 7:19 PM
yeah, I'd like it to go back to being more of a psychological terror flick like the first. I loved seeing only glimpses of the aliens till the end.

The second one was a generic scifi actioner, which was decent enough in it's own right, but that genre just isn't as interesting as the terror that the first one was.
thwhtGuardian - 12/2/2009, 7:31 PM
Awesome news!

I've liked Diesel in a few movies... Iron Giant, Fast & Furous, Riddick, Boiler Room and Saving Private Ryan. I didn't care much for Triple X, or any of his more recent films, but it was more the movies and plots than Diesel himself.

Keep him to beating the crap out of people and I'll watch it ;o)
NateBest - 12/2/2009, 7:44 PM
chronicles and ghostrider are the only 2 movies ever i wanted to walk out on. horrible! but pitch black was awesome. so i guess bring the 3rd
droopy1317 - 12/2/2009, 8:13 PM
They show those XXX movies to POW's as torture devices..absolute shite.
RorMachine - 12/2/2009, 8:31 PM
When I saw the set designs and the cast for Riddick I was totally stoked. It looked really good but it wasn't, alas.

seraphxenokhan-- Yes, his talking bothers me. He should do it less.
Betty - 12/2/2009, 8:35 PM
Where'd he go?
Betty - 12/2/2009, 8:38 PM
I liked both movies and for a science fiction I thought the second was fine.

The first movie occurred on one planet and it was about their survival. At the end it implies he is no longer the riddick he once was.

The Cartoon about butcher fitted nicely with the story and it introduced the merc that was after Riddick during the second. Cartoon also shows a small glimpse of his universe.

The second movie shows more of his universe and kept up with the story of the first movie and the cartoon.

As for acting, He plays the same guy from the first movie to second, even in the cartoon. I mean what is everyone talking about, he always plays the same dude except he either talks more or less.

Unrealistic universe or over done. . . hmmm not sure what to think about that. We'll believe in guys who shoot electicity out of their fingers that derive their power from microscopic beings in their cells but not a world where a religion is imposing its beliefs on other civilizations . . . well, that sounds alot like medievil earth to me.

If you just dont like the guy thats ok though, i get it.

For those who hated the second, what would have you done with a second movie?
seraphxenokhan - 12/2/2009, 8:39 PM
i'm back!
seraphxenokhan - 12/2/2009, 8:42 PM
Nice! I'm a huge fan of Vin's films, the guy is very underrated as an actor.
ASSASSIN666 - 12/2/2009, 8:48 PM
no he is a terrible actor...no joke
Anil Rickly - 12/2/2009, 9:36 PM
Great, another movie about a guy who can see in the dark.....
supermarioworldE - 12/2/2009, 9:40 PM
Um...I Really liked BOTH movies!

The Second one came out with White Chicks and sevearl other movies that Clashed against each other.

If they can pick a better release date and take this next movie over the top then that would be Great.

But isn't he the KING of the Necromongers???
I hope the story will follow after that.

I'm Excited!!!
NubaX - 12/2/2009, 9:58 PM
I've been following this story pretty closely ever since I saw The Chronicles of Riddick in theaters. At 15, Diesel epitomized a badass in that movie. It was a shor time later that I picked up Pitch Black; and lo an behold, I found an ever grittier, grungier, more badass Riddick then the one before. I was hooked man. Riddick is one of greatest anti-hero badasses in my book. And the way Diesel plays him, half-animal, half-man, is only somethin Vin can really embody. He has a very close connection to the character of Riddick and has a very deep understanding and respect for the character's universe. If anything, I love Vin for his dedication to the character.

As far as the two new Riddick movies are concerned: Vin and David Twohy discussed some plot points on the continuing story of Riddick as the leader of the Necromongers. I was under the impression they would be in chronological order, so if thats the case, TCOR: The Underverse was supposed to be next. It's supposed to be Riddick going to the Underverse, the Necromongers Afterlife, and getting Kyra/Jack back. Or some such nonsense. It would be rated 'R' according to Diesel and Twohy and I imagine it would be more 'Pitch Black' in tone than the Chronicles of Riddick. Which is a good thing.

The Third movie would be TCOR: Return To Furya. It was supposed to deal with Riddick's Furyan heritage and his home planet of Furya; no idea what else kinda plot there would be. This one I imagine would be the PG-13 of the two and would be more 'Chronicles of Riddick' in tone than 'Pitch Black' Which is a bad thing.

But this information isn't all factual. Yes, I found it in interviews with Diesel, but really, who knows? Changes are made all the time. I do know, however, for a fact, that 3 scripts were delivered the day that Twohy pitched The Chronicles of Riddick. He had keys for the other 2 but would only open them after the first had been made. Looks like now he craked open the other two scripts. Either way, this is good news to me. I can't wait to see Riddick kickin more ass on the big-screen.

IrvineGray - 12/3/2009, 12:23 AM
wow..and the HATERS come out...i personally think COR is one of the best movies ever made..and riddick is the best character deisel ever played...COR was a great fresh new idea put 2 film 2 perfection...i guess i dont see how it was over the top...and if it was...it was done in a good way...but i guess u will alwayz find vin deisel haterz hahaha
~X
XmutantX - 12/3/2009, 12:41 AM
Pitch Black was well done, but not favorite genre so that kinda wasn't much fun for me.

Chronicles of Riddick had an interesting premise for the Necromongers and I liked the visual style at least. It wasn't anything special, but I liked it for what it was. It was an over the top action flick, pure popcorn with no extra meaning or hidden message, and at that it mostly succeeded.

I'm curious to see where they take things for a third Riddick film. It's not something I'm waiting on the edge of my seat for, but it's one I'll probably at least check out on DVD at some point.
TheDemonHunter - 12/3/2009, 4:01 AM
cor ended on a good cliffhanger so id be interested in pt3
Anil Rickly - 12/3/2009, 5:07 AM
I would personally love to see where they would take Riddick this time..I mean well he is a supreme ruler now...
SraFisher - 12/3/2009, 6:54 AM
Well... We can say what ever we want about Vin's talent or lack there of. HE IS however perfect for the role of Riddick. He never dissapoints when he portrays him. Pitch Black was awesome so no need to go there. But in regards to Chronicles, everyone on here has surely seen many many worse films than this one. In it's genre as well as in others. No it wasn't broke back private ryan material. It never was meant to be any more than what it actually is: A great new universe with interesting characters to follow. It's not based on anything already in existance so we can't dish on it for being a sucky adaptation of a great source. I mean, how can someone be remotely psyched about the new "Predator" film and not be psyched for a new Riddick film? The Predator films weren't anything more special than the Riddick ones. They were just as enjoyable. Chronicles is a space saga about a guy who kicks ass at the drop of a dime for shits and giggles. That's what a furyan does and Vin is actually great at it. He doesn't need to follow up on his acting classes to bring us another great chapter in Riddick's life. It's also very similar to LOBO's style. How can we be so hyped up for LOBO but not for Riddick when those two films were decent action/adventure/sci-fi experiences? I'm not gonna expect anything more for Lobo's feature so that i won't be dissapointed but i surely don't want anything less! If LOBO turns out as good as Chronicles, i'll be content and anticipating a sequel as much as i will be anticipating Riddick's next adventure!
Shaman - 12/3/2009, 7:23 AM
H8RS are like SHEEP on here lol!!! : D

VIN ain't a movie star for nothing, deal with it lmao!!!

RIDDICK 2 is gonna be [frick]ing Awesome!

Hopefully he'll get his trilogy done, (PITCH BLACK don't count).

The end of RIDDICK was [frick]ing fantastic, cant wait!
LEEE777 - 12/3/2009, 7:33 AM
LEE@ very tru!
SHAMAN@ DAMN...couldnt hav said it any better myself...I hope everybuddy reads that!

XmutantX - 12/3/2009, 7:37 AM
Terrible actor? Go watch Man Apart, Boiler Room, and Find Me Guilty, then come back and post something negative. Vin can go beyond the whole New York tough guy thing at any given time. If someone were to offer you 15 million to play a badass in several movies you'd take the money too so stop the bitching.
ASSASSIN666 - 12/3/2009, 8:03 AM
XmutantX @ ; )

ASSASSIN @ True man, too many b1tches on here lol!! : D
LEEE777 - 12/3/2009, 8:22 AM
I once heard a rumour about a prequel which supposedly was going to show when Riddick gets his eyes.
6of13 - 12/3/2009, 8:25 AM
Riddick just didn't work for me. Twohy attempted to create this new mythology with Riddick as some sort of prophetic leader but he didn't bother trying to make it interesting. It was too much info too quick after Pitch Black..he should have paced it better. Add to that the piss poor dialog and mumbling Diesel and aside from the look and the action I just thought it was a major disappointment..I would hope that Lobo is 10 times the movie it was!
RorMachine - 12/3/2009, 8:27 AM
aw come on guys, what was so bad about chronicles of riddick?? it was enjoyable! and i thought the end was very cool. from what i understand, the next one won't pick up where the last left off.

i don't know why, it was a different genre than pitch black. but still cool! as far as sci-fi movies go, it was up there, especially with the shit they try to pass as sci-fi these days.

and i hate vin diesel, but he wasn't bad in it.
CorndogBurglar - 12/3/2009, 8:44 AM

~X
XmutantX - 12/3/2009, 9:09 AM
im sure COR influenced DnA's run on war of kings...where vulcan found himself leading the shiar and also now that gladiator is the new leader
Anil Rickly - 12/3/2009, 9:17 AM
I'll have to give you that one, Ror. The pacing WAS kinda off concidering it was a sequel. But it had been so long since i saw Pitch Black before i actually got a chance to see Chronicles that i took it as a completely indipendant film. An "other chapter" of sorts instead of a sequel. Don't ask me why but it happened and i was pleased. I just hope i'm as pleased for Lobo's film as i was for Riddick's second chapter. Anything more would of course be gravy ;)

XmutantX- Thanks man ;)

CDB- I also hate Vin Diesel in "certain" roles but i liked him in the first Fast & Furious (haven't seen the last) and in both Riddick films. XXX was enjoyable but that was back in my heavy pot smoking days LOL. I cringed alot while watching it recently LMFAO :P I still wouldn't go cast him for every role under the sun though. He perfectly fits some roles but very few IMO. Oh and one of his performances that i found amazing was in "Knockaround Guys". I loved him in that!!! Great film :))
Shaman - 12/3/2009, 9:25 AM
CoR suffered from high expetations. Nobody saw pitch black coming. If the movies had come out the other way around. Everyone would be talking about how awsome CoR was and how big of a disapointment Pitchblack was.

As for acting this role is perfect for Vin, great action heros don't always need to be able to act (Sly, Arnald) im just saying, I'll take an action hero that is a carismatic convencing killer with screen presence over an over qualified actor any day.
thatiscrazy - 12/3/2009, 10:45 AM
I really enjoyed both as well, when ever movies change genre like riddik did from pitch black to CoR I think you have to view them as separate entities.

A random aside, @shaman ror and cdb:
You guys have been on here a while so maybe you can help me out with this, spock's article on middle eastern super heroes sparked a memory in me of a guy on here who used to write articles on international comics from like italy and spain. I swear I read them here on cbm but I can't find them in the archives, do you guys remember those features or am I going nuts?
thwhtGuardian - 12/3/2009, 11:16 AM
The best way to do it is to make a Serenity 2 and this time have the crew chase Riddick. River Tam vs. Riddick. I'm touching myself already. :)
satanors - 12/3/2009, 11:45 AM
Riddick is a great character, and it's tailor-made for Vin Diesel. Pitch Black was excellent, and Blind Fury was pretty good, but Chronicles was terrible. And it was terrible because of Twohy. He tried so hard to make a universe around Riddick, and completely forgot what made Riddick cool in the first place.
In Pitch Black, he was Richard B. Riddick, escaped convict and murderer, who was abandoned as a newborn in a dumpster outside a liquor store. In Cronicles, suddenly he was a "Furyan", destined to blah blah blah.
If the entire 2nd movie was based on Riddick in prison escaping with the chick, it would have been so much better....
hescian - 12/3/2009, 11:50 AM
lol don't mention XXX to me. The only actor/actress i dislike more than Vin is Asia Argento
MisterFixit - 12/3/2009, 11:51 AM

satanors - 12/3/2009, 11:58 AM
@ASSASSIN666 I totally forgot about "Man Apart", Vin was GREAT in that one! That scene in the parking lot when he beats the crap out of the guy that was talking trash about his wife was seriously disturbing.

@Shaman You've got to see the new "Fast and Furious"! Vin was as good, or better than, the first one, which the franchise SORELY needed. His role as Dom is is just as good for me as Riddick.
NateBest - 12/3/2009, 12:45 PM
i freakin hate vin diesel, and all of his americas choice hollywood, giant spider fighting superman crappy movies!!!!!he and tom cruse can suck brangalinas dual members....tippy canoe and tyler perry too!!!you know who else.....cederic the whatever!!!!! honeymooners...jacky gleeson !!!! im so sorry....the U.S. is full of tards...and god hates us all!!!!!!

Vin Diesel is a douche...a giant, metallic eyballed, tank top wearing, suped up street car driving, badly neck tattooed, pacifier sucking, wannabe gangster DOUCHE! Although I will say that Pitch Black did surprise me. Kinda like how Tremors did back in the day. God! I loved that f*cking movie!! Truly the shit
Banner123 - 12/3/2009, 1:12 PM
he would be good in a movie where he plays a shoe! not a clean one a dirty tough work boot, he may win an oscar! VIN DIESEL IS....THE WRONG FOOT!!!

I like both movies, I have high expectation of a third part.

thwhtGuardian- I have no idea... The last i remember is the guy with the DARNA fansite. He was all about that character and her upcoming feature film.
Shaman - 12/3/2009, 2:02 PM
A lot of Vin Haters, grow up. If u havent' seen Dark Fury it comes before the Chron. of Riddick. Its animation, but it fits right in.

Spock - 12/3/2009, 2:20 PM
I'm not a fan of Vin Diesel, however, I was entertained by "Pitch Black" and to a milder extent "Chronicles of Riddick". This is probably the only series that I'll willingly watch Vin Diesel in, so I'm interested in seeing where they take this.

The PG-13 thing doesn't really bother me. These days a PG-13 can still push the limits beyond anything that was acceptable ten years ago. In the 80's and early 90's a PG-13 film of today's standards would fetch an R rating easily. Unless the source material is defined by its full frontal nudity, hard swearing and gore violence it's not a big deal.

PG-13 used wisely can maintain a good visual edge with the characters and story.
WeaponX - 12/3/2009, 3:20 PM
Thats very true weapon x, and it works well for certain types of movies. But when your basing your entire premise around a character that is compelled to lose his rag, murder people and "skull [frick] them in their sleep"..I think its best to go with the R!
RorMachine - 12/3/2009, 4:35 PM
Third movie it works for me.... Vin Diesel is RIDDICK he owns that character it was tailor made for him.
BLADE4040 - 12/3/2009, 4:38 PM
pitch black was a awesome sci fi horror and as far as chronicles goes it had its faults but i enjoyed it, im defo up for another one.
ukboy28 - 12/3/2009, 4:56 PM
I LOVED pitch black and i kinda liked chronicles ... a bit but they better make this one more hardcore and make it rated R. I agree PG-13=TWILIGHT
TheSmytheFactor - 12/3/2009, 5:57 PM
Pitch Black was great. Chronicles was awesome, granted, I'll give on a few bad acting parts and I don't mean Vin. Try some of the necromongers? What I see next for Riddick? A trip to the Underverse of course! All Lord Marshals go, right? Should be a wild trip. I hope it's R rated and a badass sci-fi movie.

Vin Diesel for Kratos!
CyborgNinja - 12/3/2009, 11:05 PM
Vin was born to play Riddick just as Arnold was born to play the Terminator and Stallone as Rocky. I can't see anyone else playing as Riddick other then Vin, he is good in other movies as well, the new Fast And Furious was pretty good.
Osiris - 12/3/2009, 11:52 PM
6of13- there was already a story done about him getting his eyes. It's called Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. It came out for XBOX in 2004 I think. But a film of this game would be cool.
Cook - 12/4/2009, 9:14 AM
I'm very excited about another Riddick movie. I Loved Pitch Black, and I liked Chronicles, because other than the main Character they were 2 different genre of movie. Pitch Black was Sci-Fi Horror and Chronicles was Sci-Fi Fantasy. Both movies where very good for teh genre's they represented. I personally think the people that hated Chronicles were just mad that it wasn't Pitch Black 2 instead of it's own movie. Which is cool, but I liked both movies and look forward to the next one.

As someone else mentioned Chronicles was very much like Conan in Space.
Skot888 - 12/4/2009, 12:33 PM
The folks on here bitching and moaning about Vin Diesel as an actor are the same folks that get raging boners watching any Arnold action movie... Arnold never got any roles because he was a great actor... he got roles because he was a [frick]ing bad ass! Vin Diesel looks like a guy that could pummel your ass, that's why he gets roles. I'm perfectly fine with him as an actor for his action movies... Y'all will rip on Vin Diesel for "The Pacifier"... remember a little movie called "Kindergarten Cop"? or "Junior"? I'm just sayin...

I'm not saying I think Vin is better than Arnold... I'm just saying their careers are rather similar... neither are GREAT actors...
Pockets713 - 12/5/2009, 2:07 AM
to but it bluntly Vin Deisel can't act and he's an @sshole. I'll be honest I didn't mind Pitch Black, couldn't stand Chronicles...but over all I hate the guy and he needs to just GO AWAY!!!!

@pockets- lol Arnie is only a legend because he can't act!! Guarentee you Vin Disel will go down the same route. Crappy action films and cheesey family comedies until he gets made governer of somewhere......

Vin Deisel can't act and he doesn't look like a bad-ass XD that made me laugh. He looks like a thumb :D
Ryden - 12/9/2009, 8:02 AM
Riddick's an interesting anti-hero. Let's hope they film him in the harsh South Australian desert again like in Pitch Black!
EditNinja - 12/10/2009, 1:05 AM
I really enjoyed Pitch Black, and I actually liked Chronicles of Riddick (COR). I am encouraged about the prospect of a Three-quel, but I would prefer more expenditures on the special effects (the CGI in COR were pedestrian).
