The Dark Knight director confirms that he is indeed producing The Man Of Steel, and refuses to comment on..but doesn't deny a potential cross-over for Supes and Bats, a-la Justice League...

MTV asked Nolan about his "sheparding" of the new Superman movie, and about any cross-over type films in the future..

"We're producing the [Superman] film and David Goyer had a terrific take on the story," Nolan told MTV News during this week's ShoWest convention. "I've been working on the story with David, and he's going to go off and write it, and we'll see where it goes."

When asked about Justice League..

"I can't really talk about other things," smiled Nolan

Can't talk about it..I like Can't talk about it, its a damn site better than Nolan's previous notion of keeping his Batman separate from the rest of the DC Universe. Anyway, he may very well be spinning us along of course, but we can hope! I think everyone was pretty surprised when Nolan was announced as having any involvement at all with a new Superman film after his apparent dismissal of acknowledging other Super Heroes outside of his Gotham City. I think between this and DC Entertainment's announcement of a new CBM every year it won't be long until we see a Justice League movie..just get busy with Flash and Wonder Woman guys!

"Can't really talk about other things" hmmmm... "CAN'T" or "WON'T"??? Starting to sound like it may at least be in his "radar" or at least approaching the the helm of possibility ...

p.s. FIST!!!
HelaGood - 3/19/2010, 4:29 PM
i really want to see a new, GOOD superman movie!!!
InTylerWeTrust - 3/19/2010, 4:30 PM
I don't mind the notion of him keeping his Batman in his own universe, but what pissed me off was his comment about Superman in the same situation.

Now it seems like things are turning around, which I'm happy about.

HelaGood - 3/19/2010, 4:35 PM
im with Tyler... it seemed very closed minded and just plain stupid of him to say he wanted to keep them separate.
JoshWilding - 3/19/2010, 4:35 PM
Great find ROR!

It'll be a real pity if they dont take this oppurtunity to build a movie universe as Marvel have! Still a Superman/Batman movie would be great.

Guys, check out my OLD MAN LOGAN Fan Cast!!! Just click the link!!!
ATOMbomb - 3/19/2010, 4:57 PM
Finally!!! A good Superman movie is coming. Keep Bale as Batman, very curios to see how the JL movie turns out.
juanimeli - 3/19/2010, 5:14 PM
These movies must be on separate universes. Batman, Superman, Flash,Green Lantern and Wonder Woman must not cross. Each, will film separatly without chains that will compromise their stories. For a future Justice League Movie, Studio and Producers could sign in the same Cast using Infinite Crisis theme plot. In wich each superhero lives in a diferent universes but must join forces to fight a Universal Extintcion
OdinsBeard - 3/19/2010, 5:38 PM
did goyer ever write comics? anyone know?
brnxnatural - 3/19/2010, 5:59 PM
They should just do it how marvel is doing it, plain and simple.
Phinehas - 3/19/2010, 6:18 PM
Ahhhh...WB/DC is turning the proverbial screws on our illustrious Mr. Nolan. He wouldn't touch Supes, now he is. Are they merely throwing money at him, or is he actually being convinced on how cool of an idea it is?
TNTjesus - 3/19/2010, 6:32 PM
Whatever. As long as he doesn't try to keep Supes boxed-in in a world without other heroes. Batman has got enough villains to keep his world exciting. But its the freakin Man of Steel! Like he wouldn't know about the other heroes of the world.

@McLovin...I got a McLovin on my friends on PS3! Its not u is it?
fanboiii - 3/19/2010, 6:40 PM
"Like he wouldn't know about the other heroes of the world."

That's assuming there are other heroes in the world they set up.

I think in Nolan-verse, Batman should be the first official superhero and then Superman comes along.

It would be like some of the themes Watchmen touched on with Dr. Manhattan.
RorMachine - 3/19/2010, 7:15 PM
Superc#ntbats...Dude is it tourette's? Dropped on your head as a kid? General anger and ignorance and a joy of reveling in your own stupidity? You can get help you know..you don't have to go through life being hated by everyone who lays eyes on you..
SoulAllFlush - 3/19/2010, 7:39 PM
I think the best way to do a justice League film is to do it in the style of Crisis on Infinite Worlds.

Were the universe of a Batman, a Superman, a Wonder Woman etc who are all unfamiliar with each other collide. That way you don't have to worry about creating a Batman where he exists as the worlds only superhero because at that point, he is.

Honestly I'd prefer something more honest to the comics, but this idea allows more freedom for the independent Superhero movies.
hewilldefytheirgravity - 3/19/2010, 8:20 PM
You have to have a film where Superman meets Batman before any Justice League film is made. The dynamic between the two is probably the best in the genre. In the film I'd like to see Superman place the call for others like himself to band togehter. Batman being the suspicious person he is meets with Superman before anyone else can. Differences get settled or maybe they don't either way there's your Superman vs Batman flick to kick off the Justice League flick.
NightAvenger - 3/19/2010, 8:22 PM
Cool news Ror!
Superman-Ryan Mcpartlin or Harmon Walsh
Batman-Christian Bale or Henry Cavill
Todd Gray - 3/19/2010, 8:24 PM

I know! How about a Superman movie with lex Luther as the primary villain!

Rolling my eyes on that one. O.k., if they;re going to do a reboot, do it this way. Get back to DC roots with Superman and stop worrying about stepping on timelines and story arcs and give us, the fans, a good movie for crying out loud!

Stop talking about it and just do it!

Start the movie out where everyone already knows about Superman and he's been in the public eye for a few years
with Supes foiling a Lex Luther scheme but not before Luther has somehow brought Braniac into the scene. DO NOT bring Luther back into the movie's storyline again.

Add a very quick origion arc but that's it. Move on from that quickly. Then add a couple of mentions about Batman and Gotham City.

Enter Braniac. Braniac shows up and kicks Supes' butt in the first battle and starts to take over. Introduce another villain that Braniac enlists like Parasite.

Supes gets PO'ed, whips Parasite, and then has the final knock-down drag-out with Braniac and send him packing.

There you have it in a nutshell. A story everyone would love.
ISleepNow - 3/19/2010, 10:19 PM
This represents some significant progress. He hasn't stated an interested in doing any crossoversin the past. Of course, this is the guy that had to be cajoled into doing The Dark Night. By whom? His brother Jonah. Probably tackled him in the middle of the living room floor and hit him repeatedly over the forehead with a rolled-up newspaper until he caved in. This time Jonaah should try tieing him up with duct tape and throwing him in the closet until he agrees to do Justice League..
Sithsidious66 - 3/19/2010, 10:42 PM
They should go with Issue One and Two from the comic "The Man of Steel". Issue Three should be a prequel to Justice League, 'cause here the Batman already existed before Superman.
brianj22 - 3/19/2010, 10:43 PM
OK I usually dont post about batman or superman but since I do regarding Smallville and where thats heading I gotta weigh in on this since ive had a hard on about doing JLA either as a tv series of in the movies so I gotta say a couple of things about this.

1) The fact that Nolan is involved in the next superman movie raises my level of interest 10 fold. To do what he did on a dead series like batman was and is tremendous and this makes me excited about the new superman movie.

2) What this also means is, and its no real secret the way he answered the JLA question that he is involved in it. Trust me, if he wasnt involved than hed just say no hes not involved at all.

3) Someone at WB/Time Warner is finally listening to the fans that we want our DC heroes on screen and that they are moving forth to build everything up to a JLA movie the way that Marvel is having there movies lead up to the Avengers.

4) This is just me thinking outside the box here but...dare I say the word out loud...and that word is

CROSSOVER

You heard me right...Crossover...and ive got an idea that will smash any and all of the box office record books.

Here we go.

AVENGERS VS JLA

Dont think it wont happen? Name me a movie with would outdo it at the box office? Ever??? Seriously....ever????

if it means getting out of the Red you damn well better believe it will happen in our lifetime. Hollywood is hurting big time and you know as well as I do each studio needs at least one or two blockbusters ever year to get out of the red.

It might take 5-6 years before it happens but it would be worth the wait. :)
Redhood - 3/19/2010, 11:04 PM
@brianj22 I do agree with you, seeing something like that would be beyond epic. Unfortunatley, I think that will never happen, not because it can't but because the powers that be will NEVER let it happen. But YES, it would break records.
johan02 - 3/20/2010, 12:48 AM
in all honesty, I have to say this kinda worries my. I literally learned to read on Superman comics. my father started collecting them for me as soon as he found out I was a boy, I had every issue of all four books from 84 to 97 when I stopped buying them cause of the whole blue/red electric thing. but anyway, I don't know how I feel about Superman in a Nolan-vrese style movie. I mean don't get me wrong, I love both Batman movies. I have some issues with TDK, as some of you may know but thats more of a prob with the hype.
the problum I'm worried about here is seeing a stripped down, "real world" type Superman. I mean I know a guy like Nolan won't do anything as drastic as mess with the ...um..costume? he'll still be in blue, red, and yellow, but just now as I write it acures to me they have been trying to push a black and silver Superman for years, I can't say I couldn't see Nolan doing that to give the film a darker gritier tone. I don't know, thats the trouble. I don't know
on the other hand I could be totaly worng. it could turn out that the dark nature of the Batman movies is because of how true Noaln is staying to Batman's nature. if that be the case, then I should hope he bring that kind of dedication to Superman project as well. and I don't think I have to state the undying hope that they DON'T go with a Luther storyline.
and finally, yes and I'm NOT sorry at all NO ROUTH!!!!!

Thank You All,
And Goodnight.
johan02 - 3/20/2010, 12:58 AM
P.S. I honestly not sure I could take a Justice League movie seriously. I mean maybe if it was like a "New Frontier" Justice Leauge movie that MIGHT be buyable. but other then that I can't see a storyline being good eoungh to be really beliveable in a live action setting. to be completly honest I have to say that same for The Avengers, both would be totaly killer to see if done right. but really, as big a comic book dweb as I am even I can't picture that in my mind without haveing to shake my head in a mix of lafter and shame at what I see. I meanit's one of those things where, yes if it's all 100% all in on everything then yeah they could both be realy sweet, but the odds are against them. even during a good streak thats tought to pull of.
Vital - 3/20/2010, 2:48 AM
He just accidentally hinted to us that something is up their sleeve over there in DC/Warners/Nolan world. You know it when they ask him and he smiles when he responds cause he KNOWS but can't say and the reporter asked the right question. Kudos to them for making him do that questionable smile. If you're good at reading people, it was pretty obvious he knows something that we don't (or do we?) lol :P
Vital - 3/20/2010, 2:50 AM
I have a feeling the movie is going to be a lot of self exploration (for Superman, and not in a perverted sense either guys lol).
Ranger14 - 3/20/2010, 3:28 AM
...and Lee picks two "not-so-masculine sort of fellas" to play the role of Superman and Batman? Lee, c'mon... you can do better than that! Talk about self-exploration.
Fortress - 3/20/2010, 6:16 AM
Nolan is the man!

He will make a awesome film!

AVENGERS VS JLA

will never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever happen (in live action format. Might happen in cartoon, although I doubt even that)

If you want to know why it won't happen you just have to look around you. Look at the failed Justice League feature length, look at the Planet Hulk cartoon where they couldn't have Silver Surfer, look at Captain America: The First Avenger where it can't have The Human Torch. Legal issues take precedent over potential box office taking.
flames809 - 3/20/2010, 8:13 AM
thats cool but he should have his batman in a jla movie if a jla movie ever happens

JustinMSalvato - 3/20/2010, 6:02 PM
Stop with the Henry Cavill nonsense. He's not tall enough. Superman is supposed to tower over other guys at 6'4". At 6'1" you'll see the difference. It showed with Dean Cain.

I'm sure they'll find someone suitable.

r0r5ch4ch84 - 3/21/2010, 3:24 PM
I'm so sorry for this guys, but I have to do this:

On the subject of a Superman movie...
Here is what needs to be done:

Examples from Bryan Singer's Superman Returns(2006)=

Pros:
Costume= Color scheme for the Superman costume, plus the idea for the raised S, the many mini-S shapes all over and most of the materials used to make said costume.
Supporting cast= Pretty good. Jimmy was played by someone who really gave a good representation of Jimmy and so did the guy who played the boss of the Daily Planet.
Backgrounds/Design of settings= Metropolis was Beautiful, simply perfect. Interesting take on the Fortress of Solitude, too.
Soundtrack= Excellent, no complaints here.

CONS(A.K.A. Do Not Do This):
Costume= 1.The yellow or "gold" S on the back of the cape was missing. Besides that, the cape and neckline was way too close to the wearer's neck! For shame!!!! 2.The way they redesigned the shape of the S inside the diamond was...atrocious, the Superman symbol on his chest was too F*cking small and looked pathetic. The "S" itself looked like a terrible homage to the already terrible Christopher Reeves S, which has already been copied too many F*ckin' times. I don't ever want to see that "S" again. IT- IS- FUGLY!! LET- IT- DIEEEE!!!
3.And the belt line was...the belt line on that costume was way too much of a red flag. They turned the dignified uniform of a caped crusader into an underwear model ad. And that belt was so obviously fake that it hurt my eyes just to look at it. And the belt buckle as another "S", the bottom tip of the diamond pointing down towards Superman's "junk"...Please, no...please, God, no.
4.The boots...what- de- shit? Why were the upper portion of those boots so cool while the soles of the boots were so...not?
Main cast= ....Brandon Routh as Clark Kent/Superman(Kal-el)...Whoever thought that up needs to be hunted down like a gay man by rednecks in Texas. The girl they got to play Lois Lane looked...WAY too young. She looked more like a girl than a woman. And the actor they got to play Alex "Lex" Luthor...even I don't like Lex Luthor...but that was a terrible choice. And yes, I know these other people's names, I'm just not going to say them. Also they used the likeness of the late Marlon Brando...how dare you?
Story= just making another movie about Superman that included the original storyline as the original Richard
Donner/Christopher Reeves series was a bloody awful idea, and proved that Hollywood is more desperate than we realize.

And now here are the examples of Richard Donner's Superman movie series(1970's)=

Pros:
Costume= Superman's costume was pretty good for it's time, it mirrored the genuine article nearly-spot on. Right Belt, right belt line, right belt buckle shape. There was an S on the back of the cape, the cut of the cape and collar around the wearer's neck was perfect, and overall it looked pretty regal. And the S shield on the chest area was the correct size.
Cast overall= pretty sweet, but not because of who the actors were, but because of how they played their parts and tried to stay true to the characters. Even though they made everyone look extremely cheesy.
Soundtrack= Since it's the only kind that makes people really think of Superman, and was very nicely complimented by the most recent movie's version, it's fine.

CONS(A.K.A. stuff that we can only forgive them for because it was the 70's, do not copy):
Costume= The colors were way too light and dorky, and Superman's "S" was "fugly". And the costumes of the
Kryptonians were ridiculous.
Cast= Jor-el was only in his middle to late thirties. why do you have a middle-aged man playing him? We all know Marlon Brando is a magnificent presence-laden actor, but he was too old for that movie. And Jor-el didn't have white hair, either. What was Richard Donner doing, exactly. Also, Ma and Pa Kent weren't that old when they found little Kal-el, either. In fact they were still in their respective thirties/twenties when baby superman crashed in Kansas.
Everything Else= Aside for the major points of Superman's origin story(why he was on Earth, him getting a job as a reporter), it's like Richard Donner took a backhand to everything that was in the true Superman story. He made it even sillier and cheesier than it already was in the comics.

So, Brothers Nolan and Hollywood...take this advice from the true fans...DON'T TRY TO MAKE IT SOLELY YOUR OWN AND
[frick] IT UP LIKE DONNER AND SINGER DID!
brianj22 - 3/21/2010, 5:03 PM
So, let me see if I get this right from the “Oh no, a JLA/Avengers movie will never, ever happen crowd.”

DC and Marvel has already had crossovers between the two companys in the comics but your saying it cant happen in the movies? I hate to tell you but JLA/Avengers and Avengers/JLA has ALREADY HAPPENED IN THE COMICS IN 2003!!

Don’t believe me, check out the following link: http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/JLA/Avengers

DC and Marvel have done plenty of crossovers in the past as you will see from the list below. The list not only show crossovers from Marvel and DC but with other companies as well. bropous - 3/21/2010, 6:17 PM
Nah, Nolan's so damn stuck on "realism" in the comic book world that this will just be a character movie of Clark Kent, a two-hour smallville with nbo costume, no flying, and nothign but Lex Luthor as a villain.

Puh-LEEZ.

Cross-over or die, DC!!!
