Megan Fox Gets Thumbs Up From Fathom Creator

Earlier this month, news broke that “Transformers” star Megan Fox was attached to star in a live-action adaptation of the “Fathom” comic book series published by Aspen MLT.

In an interview with Wizard Universe, Aspen president and “Fathom” Executive Producer Frank Mastromauro explained why Megan Fox was the right choice for the role in the Fox Atomic film.

“She knows so much about ‘Fathom,’ which is spectacular,” said Mastromauro. “Growing up, she was a huge fan of the book and a huge fan of [late 'Fathom' creator] Michael [Turner]. When we met her, she was already well versed in ['Fathom'] volume one and [was] asking us questions about the book.”

“It’s just really great to have someone who is enthusiastic about the material. Not because it’s another movie they’re making, but because it’s a movie that in their heart they want to make because they love the character and they love Michael and the people who created it so much,” continued Mastromauro.

Mastromauro also said Turner met Fox before he passed away and was “100 percent for” her casting, adding that he “couldn’t have pictured someone else doing this right now. She just translates Mike’s beautiful [character] into live action perfectly.”

Writing the screenplay is Jordan Mechner, the creator of the “Prince of Persia” video game series, which itself is being developed into a film by producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Mastromauro explains they met with 10 to 12 screenwriters before deciding to go with Mechner’s take.

“Jordan’s [pitch] was honestly just head and shoulders above everyone in terms of the way he thought out the mythology and the way he thought out the story,” explained Mastromauro.

Mastromauro partners in producing “Fathom” include Fox’s current beau, “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” star Brian Austin Green. According to the Aspen president, one of the first aspects of the film they’ll have to tackle is the choice of which visual effects companies to hire.

“I know it’s going to be tricky adapting the costumes…and the ships if those are used or not,” he said. “It’s going to be a fun endeavor to see how that all works out. But I’m sure [Fox Atomic is] going to pick some great creative people and FX workshops.”

While the “Fathom” movie is looking for a director, Fox no doubt has her hands full with Warner Bros.’ adaptation of the DC series “Jonah Hex,” reportedly starting production as soon as next month.

So it looks good Fox fans (and in fairness, who isnt?). But is she maybe flooding the comic book movie market? (There is also talk of her starring in a "Witchblade" movie!)..Was this article just an exuse to show another pic of Miss Fox?..and how in the name of the bright and fluffy Lord did Brian Austin Green pull this chick!

loelife - 3/25/2009, 2:33 PM
i have never read a single issue, but even though i don't think that he is the best artist, mike does make the sexiest comic chicks. and i can't think of anyone else for the role, maybe alba with the dark hair again. or i'm i just thinking about who i wanna see in a bathing suit.
loelife - 3/25/2009, 2:37 PM
okay i just scrolled up to exit the page and ............... yes ms. fox. you are a beast. i couldn't "fathom" anyone else playing this role either. haha
davidzuck - 3/25/2009, 2:57 PM
if any real person was to match up to Turner's art, she's the one, I think this is a great choice
Galvatron - 3/25/2009, 2:59 PM
Heck, she works for me. Don't know much about the comic though, guess i wiki it.

@rorschach Thanks dude, i am at work.
TheMyth - 3/25/2009, 3:24 PM
What an awkward date it will be to take my lady to see this. Ror, you know how difficult this was to read? I used to love the comic. When I was about 15-16, it had some of the best artwork in comics, period.

The comic stories are kind of silly in my opinion, but they are well told and superbly illustrated. The main character, who Fox would be playing according to this, is named Aspen and she is a species of humanoids called Blue. The entire race are a sort of Hydromancers, Aspen being the Anakin Skywalker of the race in terms of power. I only remember the origin story and something about a big laser beam... I know right. A cruise-liner returns to port after having been missing for like 5 years or so, only no one on board realizes they've been gone that long. The only unaccounted for passenger is an adolescent girl who can't even remember her name. This origin attracted me to the story along with the fantastic art, but the weird plots caused me to stop after a so many issues.

I cannot wait to drool over Fox as the scantily clad Aspen. I'll be sure to bring lots of tissues... for the drool.
Jetsaholic - 3/25/2009, 3:33 PM
Ror, I've read the whole thing, as well as the spin-offs Killian's Tide, Kiani and Cannon Hawke and the second chapter as well.

As far as depth and material to create a story around, Fathom has all the elements necesary. I think it will be an awesome movie. Give the book a chance. It's worth it.
luv1138 - 3/25/2009, 3:49 PM
Nice. <3
Killian - 3/25/2009, 4:22 PM

GUNSMITH - 3/25/2009, 5:12 PM
DUDE, SHE LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE FATHOM, I MEAN IDENTICAL. LOOK AT HER, ITS LIKE SEEING A FATHOM CLONE.
Killian - 3/25/2009, 5:54 PM
megan fox in a bikini grif. what else do you need?
BillyBlack - 3/25/2009, 6:03 PM
The last sentence pretty much says it all. Bright and fluffy Lord indeed! She must've watched a lot of 90210 in the trailer park she grew up in. I have no idea what this book is all about, but if it's 90 mins of Megan Fox soakin wet you can count on a large opening weekend and a hand callus.

It's time to go home but I... uhh... really can't get up from my desk right now.
Osiris - 3/25/2009, 6:23 PM
Mr.Turner was/is one of my fav artist I started reading Witchblade due to his art on a cover i saw and then i got addicted to the story, so of course when he left i was sad then he came up w/ Fathom and i was excited once again the books are a good read and the art is what you can expect from Turner. Fox looks incredibly like Aspen which works for me, i really don't want her to play Aspen and Sarah so i really hope they choose someone else for the Witchblade movie.
answer - 3/25/2009, 6:52 PM
I had to ome back look for another look see. YAY!!!
NoobMike - 3/25/2009, 6:55 PM
Damn, she'd make a fine Witchbalde and a fine Fathom....and both are smoking and wear very little clothing, seems like a win for us comicbook fans and for us Megan's fans.
gizzep13 - 3/25/2009, 6:57 PM
Just the thought of this film makes my pants fit all kinds of funny.
loelife - 3/25/2009, 7:18 PM
noobmike, your picture scares me. and then i laugh.
DarkAvengers - 3/25/2009, 7:27 PM
Is it me, or is Megan Fox starting to get a bit annoying? She's everywhere! I dont mind, i guess.
Watcher - 3/25/2009, 10:04 PM
More or less a perfect pick. You'll get no argument from teh Juggernaut
NoobMike - 3/25/2009, 10:31 PM
thanks loelife, the first time I saw that image I just had to save it. It mesmerizes me, I find it disturbing and fascinating and it seems I just can't look away, so I decided to share.
BLADE4040 - 3/25/2009, 11:12 PM
Ok I dont know anything about Fathom....but if Ms.Fox is casted as the lead Im in.Whats this about a WitchBlade movie? Hope its better than that crap tv show a few years back with that unattractive chick Yancy Butler as the lead.

kovacs29 - 3/25/2009, 11:29 PM

GUNSMITH - 3/25/2009, 11:32 PM
FROM THE LOOK OF THE PIC AND THE WHITE LIQUID FLIPPING BEHIND HER I BELIEVE SHE HAS CONTROL OF MENS GIZZ.
frankiepoo5 - 3/26/2009, 12:33 AM
WTF is Fathom?
Merinator - 3/26/2009, 3:42 AM
I have read until issue #11, I think. If the movie is based on the first story-arc, telling us the origin and all that follows...

But the most sensible action would be wait for the trailer.
spanky - 3/26/2009, 4:56 AM
sounds like a great movie, but i don't know if she can pull off fights scenes, i mean what if somethings falls off?
BmanHall - 3/26/2009, 7:35 AM
Looks great to me.
MCMLXXXII - 3/26/2009, 8:47 AM
gunsmith's right, she has control of my gizz right now..
thwip - 3/26/2009, 9:04 AM
MCMLXXXII, that comment was unbelievably hilarious because it was placed next to your picture. i've never in my life pictures calvin blowing his load.
MCMLXXXII - 3/26/2009, 9:16 AM
now i feel sleepy..
StSharp - 3/26/2009, 9:16 AM
Man, Megan Fox keeps getting rumored/offered to play characters from comics and video games. But the thing is-she’s not really that good of an actress…she may be hot, but doesn’t quite have the acting chops, well at least not yet. They shouldn’t rush to put her on the big screen. She should prove herself more to the public, cuz Hollywood needs to know, THEY CANNOT JUST PLEASE THE MEN. lol The women want to look up to a female heroin as well, so she’s got to be smart also, not just a looker. And, be able to convince us that she IS the character she’s playing XD So, if I see another movie with her in it, and its good, maybe ill give her more street-cred. (Street-cred lol)
loganoneil - 3/26/2009, 9:36 AM
Ahem - my two cents....

Megan Fox
see more Lol Celebs
thwip - 3/26/2009, 9:46 AM
neumn13: "heroine" has an "e" on the end of it. heroin's something neither women NOR men look up to. haha.

other than that, though, i almost entirely agree. she is completely void of acting talent, and she has nice boobs and a skinny midsection. i really don't think her face is all that attractive whatsoever. what. so. ever.
Gideon - 3/26/2009, 9:48 AM
Watch, "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People."

The movie was decent and Megan Fox actually plays a pretty good role in it.

Of course, the role was that of a ditzy, up and coming Hollywood starlet. Hmmm, may not have been that much of a stretch for her.

Hehehehe....
TheMyth - 3/26/2009, 10:03 AM
To all you losers trying to crack on Meagan's acting ability, what movies have you seen her in exactly that lead you to that conclusion. Transformers? A Michael Bay production in which even Anthony Hopkins abilities would be shadowed by giant droid deathmatches. Have any of you seen "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People"? That's probably the only movie out with her that you guys may have seen outside of Transformers.

Point is, your accusations are unfounded. It is extremely ignorant to judge someone's acting ability based upon one performance, and a performance in an effects movie at that. Is she among the greatest in acting ability? Of course not. But, give her a few years and I'm sure she will be. Until then, shut your mouth and enjoy the eye candy.

I love that picture. I just wanna motorboat those boobies.
loganoneil - 3/26/2009, 10:11 AM
Gee Myth, thinking with your OTHER head (maybe)? I wonder if you'd be this defensive if she were a total troll, hmmm? I'm basing my opinion on her acting SKILLS (or the apparent lack thereof). While she is a VERY attractive young woman, I'm not going to let those 'funny tingly feelings' south of the belt that you're obviously feeling affect my judgement - she's not that good (yet). Can she develop over time? Sure! Will she? That depends on if she takes the craft seriously, or if she just relies on her "assets".
TheMyth - 3/26/2009, 10:13 AM
Oh, yeah!!! Grif... I have a girlfriend too. If you like I'll post a picture for you to admire her hotness. Point is, I am a man, and when I see a fine piece of woman, my pecker says, "Huh!" Just like that.
BmanHall - 3/26/2009, 10:16 AM
TheMyth said: "when I see a fine piece of woman, my pecker says, "Huh!" Just like that."

Your pecker talks!? Haha, you made me think of the "Dear Penis" song by Rodney Carrington. I need to go listen to that now... =D
MCMLXXXII - 3/26/2009, 10:17 AM
defend her honor & acting ability..
then talk about motorboating her.. lol..
but who wouldn't right?

and speaking of motorboating, how about
scarlett johansson?
RorMachine - 3/26/2009, 10:21 AM
In Transformers Fox was decent..she was no better or worse than the rest of the cast..they all did their jobs..it was all about the robots! But i will say this, it takes a good actor to look even half decent working on a Bay movie! I think with a good script and direction she may surprise a few people.
loganoneil - 3/26/2009, 10:28 AM
Ror - you're right about that... that's why I' say the jury's still out on Ms. Fox - but for now.... "meh" (acting-wise).
