RUMOR: FRINGE's John Noble Up For Villain Role In STAR WARS VII?

Nothing concrete, but an Aussie radio show host reckons she has it on "good authority" that the actor - who also appeared as Denethor in Return Of The King - will be playing the villain in the first of Disney's new Star Wars movies..

This is sketchy - basically just the word of one Radio show host - but we haven't had any casting rumors for Star Wars Episode VII yet so what the Hell! On morning radio (Fox FM) in Melbourne Australia, the hosts were discussing yesterday's confirmation of the standalone Star Wars movies when one of them (Jo) said she "has it on very good authority that Aussie actor John Noble will be appearing as the villain". The other host, Matt, queried this but she remained adamant, saying this was definitely for Episode VII and not for one of the standalone movies, before offering to make a friendly wager on the matter. Obviously we have no way of knowing if this is true, and our definition of "good authority" may differ quite a bit from Jo's here, but you never know. Noble did work on the J.J Abrams created tv show Fringe - but of course that could also just be where the (rather lazy) link was made for the rumor to spring from. If it did turn out to be true and he was to play the villain, how would it go down with you guys? Thanks to Natalia Romanov for the heads up.

Does this mean there will be a scene where he bursts into flames, runs the entire length of a Star Destroyer before dying? ;)
marvel72 - 2/6/2013, 5:19 AM
excellent actor he has got a fantastic sounding voice.
Killersloth - 2/6/2013, 5:21 AM
This would be a fantastic choice, as marvel72 says hes got a really great voice. Maybe this will get him the recognition he should have gotten for Fringe.
Seejay - 2/6/2013, 5:22 AM

Sounds really great. He was the best thing about Fringe.
NorrinRaddical - 2/6/2013, 5:23 AM
i'm all for this. He may not have gotten enough recognition for Fringe, but I'd like to think it helped him get a role (or rumor) like this one

I hated watching this guy eat!

@GuardianAngel only draw back, other than that this dude is FAN-TASTIC! This is good news!
FreedomFreeLife - 2/6/2013, 5:45 AM
I can see it
ShadowOfTheWeb - 2/6/2013, 5:52 AM
damn that would be awesome! If nothing else, Fringe demonstrated how supremely talented John Noble is.

That. Man. Can. Act.

But also, as an Aussie, I wouldn't necessarily trust Matt and Jo...

Perhaps Palpatine had a gay lover (other than Anakin). And maybe Noble would play this man who was not officially Palpatine's apprentice but learned about the Dark Side from his significant other.
After the death of Palpatine his lover spent decades expanding knowledge of the Sith and his powers while planning his revenge on Luke Skywalker.
Until finally he gained enough power politically to attempt another Sith Coup of the Republic. And finally he was strong enough in the Force to challenge Luke. And he calls himself "Darth Manstress" and launches his attack!

Palpatine and his young gay lover played by Michael Fassbender.

@ yingyangpalms: LOL!

How have they already casted someone when they haven't even finished the script? I mean, it's still two years away...
Jolt17 - 2/6/2013, 6:20 AM
Yes, please. That would be brilliant.
Jolt17 - 2/6/2013, 6:23 AM
Hmm, maybe he could be Palpatine's clone?

I know, maybe no one wants to see Palpatine again, but I think, his arc would make a great movie. Not to mention how Noble would be terrific in the role.
charlie2094 - 2/6/2013, 6:26 AM
@Wingding

Michael Arndt was already writing the script in November last year. They obviously already know who the villain is and what sort of character it is so why can't they have cast someone? The Captain America: TWS script hasn't been finished yet (and what there is, the main cast haven't even seen) but they already have Falcon, Crossbones and more signed on. If anything, haven't a villain cast early will allow them the most amount of time to perfect him and flesh him out.

Think this could be a good choice. He has a voice that would work brilliantly in a villainous role, though I suspect this is more of a lazy guess. Who knows.
Nomis1800 - 2/6/2013, 6:29 AM
I'd love to see him in SWe7!!!
ElBicho - 2/6/2013, 6:33 AM
Excellent news!
SupermanReturns2 - 2/6/2013, 6:38 AM
Darth Pleagus, the wise?
charlie2094 - 2/6/2013, 6:51 AM
But Plagueis was dead before even the events of Episode 2. The only way to do Plageuis would be to make this a prequel, which it obviously isn't. I would love to see them adapt Darth Plagueis, showing Sidious' training but he won't be in Episode VII. Maybe they'd do some sort of flashback, who knows.
HavocPrime - 2/6/2013, 6:51 AM
Lol doctor darth zoidberg

Wonder what he will be playing though, a Sith or just an Imperial commander
StarkAnthony - 2/6/2013, 6:55 AM
Darth Plagueis in the book Darth Plagueis was a Muun, so it would require extensive make up or motion capture anyway.
polarkyle - 2/6/2013, 7:05 AM
i could definitely see him as a sith lord
RorMachine - 2/6/2013, 7:06 AM
It's definitely possible that they could have cast someone, or at least have someone in mind..I'm not saying believe this rumor in particular, but I wouldn't dismiss it based solely on that.
Paragon79 - 2/6/2013, 7:25 AM
A radio host says it, must be news! Actually I hope this turns out to be true, he'd be a great Sith lord.
Paragon79 - 2/6/2013, 7:32 AM
Im confused, are they doing Episode 7, and a stand alone movie? Or is there going to be Episode 7 and a stand alone film?
ItsNotASchooner - 2/6/2013, 7:38 AM

Hellsing - 2/6/2013, 7:44 AM

Paragon79 - 2/6/2013, 7:48 AM
Hellsing: Thanks. I'd prefer him as the episode 7 villian.
imnotwearinghockeypants - 2/6/2013, 7:50 AM
Seems appropriate, the man looks villainous.
nld3 - 2/6/2013, 8:18 AM
He would make good Sithlord.
CaptainKangarooPimp - 2/6/2013, 9:05 AM
If this is true, than both Christopher Lee and John Noble will have played villains in Lord of the Rings and Star Wars.
RetroFit - 2/6/2013, 9:45 AM
John Noble, Ciarán Hinds, David Warner and Alan Rickman. Get them all! Do it!
boyofsteel - 2/6/2013, 9:58 AM
