Apparently WB Wanted Ben Affleck To Play Batman In JUSTICE LEAGUE

That's right: According to Latino Review's Elmayimbe, not only did the studio look to the Argo director to helm their big screen DC superhero team-up flick, but to star in it as The Caped Crusader too. Read on for more details..

This doesn't really matter too much now of course, but it is an interesting piece of "what if" news. Around the time it was first reported that Warner Bros. wanted Ben Affleck to direct their big screen take on Justice League, it was also rumored that they wanted him to appear in the movie too. No role was specified, but many fans assumed that it might well be Batman, and it seems they were right! Coming off the news/rumor that WB have rejected Will Beall’s script for the film, Latino review's scoop machine Elmayimbe decided to drop the following bit of info our way..

Also, in regards to the report that the movie may now be in jeopardy, he Tweets: "Justice League. To be continued. Trust me on this fanboy nation”. Sounds like he has some more info about these proceedings. What do you think? Would Affleck have made a good Batman?

Hopefully they get a new writer soon so we can get moving on this movie already
fanboy03191 - 2/7/2013, 9:07 PM
They really don't know what they're doing with this, do they?
BenderDickCumPatch - 2/7/2013, 9:09 PM
KARL URBAN FFS.

HE'S ALWAYS BEEN MY BATMAN FAN CHOICE, DONE AND DONE.

He would embody the comic book Batman and become Batman we all know, not Nolan type...

Karl Urban= The Batman

Urban> Everyone
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 2/7/2013, 9:09 PM
Didn't Affleck say that he and DC/WB did not have any meetings or negotiations about the JL movie.I think this Elmayimbe guy is just full of shit and hot air.
Jollem - 2/7/2013, 9:10 PM
i would be okay with him directing it
Giznad - 2/7/2013, 9:10 PM
What about that guy from Person of Interest? He might be an ok Batman.
aztecRaingod - 2/7/2013, 9:12 PM
They could have done alot worse than Affleck as Batman. But I am not sure I believe anything this guys says anymore after dropping that WW Hulk BS.
CaptainKilgore - 2/7/2013, 9:12 PM
Did they not see Daredevil?
aztecRaingod - 2/7/2013, 9:13 PM
Gosling? Dude cant act, all he can do is stand there and look pretty.
KeefNCookies - 2/7/2013, 9:13 PM
Just goes to show how out of touch execs are. That's an automatic NOT SEEING THAT CRAP!
TheWolfman - 2/7/2013, 9:13 PM
Well this whole JL thing is getting snowballed aint it... I'd be ok with Karl Urban as Bruce but I'd like to see Afflack not associated with JL...
JDUKE25 - 2/7/2013, 9:14 PM
I thought this was old news? And yeah, Karl Urban would be good.
OptimusPrimeTime - 2/7/2013, 9:14 PM
Further evidence that this movie has doomed written ALL OVER IT!
dracula - 2/7/2013, 9:14 PM
they need michael fassbender and after daredevil ben affleck should never play a superhero
aztecRaingod - 2/7/2013, 9:15 PM
Good luck with Karl Urban after the Judge Dredd box office bombing.
Facade - 2/7/2013, 9:15 PM
Seems like a Keaton-like move in the wrong direction...and if they insist on using Cavill and Reynolds, too, it certainly would be fail. I don't think I could have taken it seriously.
KeefNCookies - 2/7/2013, 9:16 PM
@aztecRaingod
100% agree. Dude is terrible. Drive was a joke... almost the entire time he's smiling like he's posing the whole damn time. Worthless actor.
Netman0007 - 2/7/2013, 9:19 PM
I could see it. Why aren't more older adult actrs cast in these roles anyway? Guys in their 30s and even 40s....it could work well.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 2/7/2013, 9:22 PM
To be honest,I think Armie Hammer would make a great Batman. He would be very intimidating because of his height and imagine him bulking up for the part. The only thing about Hammer is that if DC/WB did make a JL movie he would tower over Cavill as Superman.I think Armie would be great as Batman.
monkeyhead78 - 2/7/2013, 9:22 PM
This is proof that TJL movie will suck if this is the vision they have!
Jollem - 2/7/2013, 9:23 PM

ComicFan523 - 2/7/2013, 9:24 PM
I don't think that Affleck would have made a very good Batman, I think Karl Urban would have been a better choice. My guess is that Justice League will eventually be made, the whole project seems terribly rushed to cash-in on the success of The Avengers to begin with. The WB needs to take their time like Marvel did and establish the world of a Justice League film before anything can be finalized.
ATrueHero1987 - 2/7/2013, 9:25 PM
smdh, this joker is at it again huh?smh

I don't think we will hear anything concrete about JL(or any other DC hero) until after MOS is released.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 2/7/2013, 9:26 PM
I wonder just how horrible was Will Beall's JL script. It had to be terrible if DC/WB threw it away.
Jaspion - 2/7/2013, 9:28 PM
Ohh... the things I have to read on this site.
Facade - 2/7/2013, 9:34 PM
Gabe Macht for Bruce Wayne

Daniel Cudmore for Superman

SuspenseSmith - 2/7/2013, 9:35 PM
Karl Urban still.
ShadowOfTheWeb - 2/7/2013, 9:36 PM
Karl Urban would be awesome
nitrorn - 2/7/2013, 9:42 PM
Alex O' Loughlin from Hawaii Five 0 is my choice for the next Batman.
blkyank - 2/7/2013, 9:47 PM
Assuming Man of Steel is a hit,WB will not vacate the CBM market for 3 or more years waiting for a Justice League film to be ready. I see WB as having two choices.

1. They dust off something else they can polish off in time to go in front of the cameras for a 2015 release.

2.They start over from scratch and fill the 2015 void with something else.

If its door number one,the only real option would be to recycle the Justice League Mortal script with Max Lord as the villain. It was a film ready script and the word on it was good.I like it because Max Lord would make a better intro threat then Darkseid who could be saved for a sequel.

Max Lord, the OMACs and Checkmate would be an acceptable earth based global threat that would be different enough to avoid having a copy cat tag applied to it if
it came out along side The Avengers and it shouldn't be that hard to tweek the script
to allow film to be a spring board for The Batman reboot and the rest of the DC Cinematic universe. It also be a natural fit to bring in Amanda Waller from Green Lantern if they go with Hal over John and set up a Suicide Squad film down the line.

If they go with option two, they should go with a Man of Steel sequel since that is already being worked on with Wonder Woman (spinning out of a MoS cameo)on its heels for a holiday 2015 release.

Use the extra time to bring out the Batman reboot for summer 2016 with The Flash for november 2016 then bring out Justice League in 2017 a year before Avengers 3.

That way it can go against Amazing Spider-Man 3,the new X-Men film,Captain America 3 or Thor 3 instead of a full blown Avengers movie, and WB has a real chance to make Justice League a success.
DanteSparda - 2/7/2013, 9:48 PM
Bataffleck? No thanks
thewonderer - 2/7/2013, 9:52 PM
Karl Urban has a weird head shape, and he always looks mad in the comical sense.

No
mikesinuman - 2/7/2013, 9:55 PM
KARL URBAN!!!
AmericanPsychoWolf - 2/7/2013, 9:57 PM
Hell yeah to Urban.

Contrary to what people say, I think WB is paying attention to this project if they think the script is horrible instead of going foward. I think Goyer should help rewrite the script or write a new one with Jonathan Nolan.
Tony93 - 2/7/2013, 10:07 PM
I agree for Urban..

Too bad he probably won't..

*sigh I hate waiting for SOMETHING related to Justice league to start..
MrE - 2/7/2013, 10:08 PM
This movie will fail. It will fail so hard Marvel will pay for them to keep making movies. I don't want this, but this is just the way things have to be.
Jollem - 2/7/2013, 10:12 PM
SmithWillSuffice - 2/7/2013, 10:13 PM
Dear, WB Executives...

Take your time and do this movie right, the audience will still be there when you do. Nobody wants another rushed, mess of a movie that only serves to damage the brand, and the superhero genre as a whole like Green Lantern did. The Justice League movie should not just be slapped together as a cash grab to capitalize on the success of The Avengers. It needs to be handled with the same kind of care and attention as The Lord of the Rings franchise, because that is what this is for the superhero genre. This is to big, and to important to fans to mess up.

Signed, The fans.
SLEDGE - 2/7/2013, 10:14 PM
I think Wanda Sikes would make a better Vixen than Affleck/Batman.

Thank god this didnt happen
TerminalVoyd - 2/7/2013, 10:15 PM
@MARVELPSYCHO79

There were no official negotiations or meetings in regard to Ben Affleck. He was approached and asked about it informally and expressed zero interest in doing it, so it never got to the point where any meetings needed to be scheduled, let alone getting to the negotiation phase.
TheAbomination - 2/7/2013, 10:27 PM
I'm beginning to get the suspicion that this film isn't going to be released in our lifetime.
INFO - 2/7/2013, 10:32 PM
Hahahhahahaha sure why not he could pull it off and dont judge a book by its cover people thought Bale wouldnt be good now look at him 10 years later same with Keaton i got one word and that is BATMAN................
SuspenseSmith - 2/7/2013, 10:53 PM
@TheAbomination

There's a list of movies forever stuck in limbo...

Deadpool, Justice League, pretty much anything Del Toro is attached to...
CavEl - 2/7/2013, 10:55 PM
Affleck would've made a great director for Justice League, if Argo and The Town has shown us anything about Affleck's abilities as a director, it is that Affleck can direct the shit out of an ensemble movie.

Sadly, Affleck is always the lead in his movies, and if WB approached him to be Batman...it means this is a Bat-centric movie. -_-...

CavEl - 2/7/2013, 11:02 PM
WB should get Duncan Jones and Goyer on this...SNAP!!!

David Goyer's resume= Blade trilogy, BB and TDK and what looks like an awesome Man of Steel movie. Plus, if those [frick]s at WB want to use Goyer's Superman (Cavill), I only want Goyer to write this movie. If Goyer [frick]s this up, he [frick]s up his own franchise, I don't want some two bit hack like Will Beal [frick]ing up the first good thing we Superman fans have had in over a decade.

Ducan Jones = Moon and Source Code; both movies were science fiction, but grounded in some form of realism, similar to what David Goyer is doing with Man of Steel. Like I said earlier, Duncan Jones already has a thing for Superheroes since he pitched a Superman story to Nolan when he met with him for the director chair for Man of Steel.

Make this happen, WB!!! NOW!!!
CavEl - 2/7/2013, 11:10 PM
And if WB is using Cavill, and if they can get Duncan Jones as the director with Goyer on the pen, then Batman should be Jake Gyllenhaal since that's who Goyer wanted for Batman in Nolan's Batman.

Jake Gyllenhaal already worked with Duncan Jones and his height, relative to Henry, is only an inch shorter.
PeterParkerofGotham62 - 2/7/2013, 11:19 PM
Karl Urban or Matt Bomer as Batman with Sam Mendes directing
CavEl - 2/7/2013, 11:29 PM
Sam Mendes is directing the Skyfall sequel, he doesn't have time for JL.
