POLL: Who Should Play Young Han Solo In A STAR WARS Spin-Off?

George Lucas and Harrison Ford birthed what would become one of the most iconic characters in cinema history when Han Solo blasted his way onto our screens in Star Wars: A New Hope. But who has the chops to revisit a younger version of the roguish smuggler?

This role (if the movie even happens of course) should be very hard to cast. Harrison Ford managed to make Han Solo a brash, arrogant, cocky, fearless, charming (I could go on forever with the adjectives) character, while also coming across really cool, and - crucially - not in the slightest bit annoying. We've seen many attempts at the "Han Solo type" in the years since, and witnessed how difficult that is to pull off. So who on Earth could step into those shoes and play Han Solo Jr.?

Well, there are two ways they could go: Look for an actor that resembles Ford, or don't think too much about that and focus on someone who can best convey the essence of the character. Now obviously in a perfect world we'd get both, but I won't hold my breath. The problem here is that - unlike say Michael Fassbender portraying a younger Ian McKellen - Ford played Solo when he was still relatively young anyway, so they will probably feel added pressure to lean towards matching up physical appearance - in my opinion this is a mistake. Sure the guy should be handsome, and not look a million miles away from Ford if it can be helped, but we all know what wonders a bit of Hollywood magic can work on an actor's appearance anyway. Bottom line is this role will require a GREAT actor with charisma and screen presence to burn first and foremost, and he rest can be worked on.

So with all that in mind, here are your choices. I also included the usual suspects - the LaBeoufs, the Hedlunds and the Francos etc. There is an "other" option too of course, so if you think I've looked someone over click that and let me know in the usual spot.

as long as Harrison reprises his role as an older Han Solo I don't care.
RorMachine - 2/8/2013, 11:33 AM
Yeah the ep 7 title was a mistake, I meant the spin-off movie
Buddha29 - 2/8/2013, 11:35 AM
Seann William Scott!

JokerFanHAhaHA@ You do know that Han is getting a solo movie thats a prequel?
Mercurius - 2/8/2013, 11:36 AM
@JokerFan it's for the spin-off of a younger Han Solo
RunDTC - 2/8/2013, 11:37 AM
what about Joel Edgerton?
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 2/8/2013, 11:37 AM
Instead of a prequel they should just do post episode 6. Use the real Han, Harrison Ford.
SuperDude001 - 2/8/2013, 11:37 AM
James Franco would be a perfect young Han. He's great at drama and great at cocky.
And if they go only a little older for Episode VII, Nathan Fillion (okay he played a similar role in Firefly, but he'd be awesome).
RorMachine - 2/8/2013, 11:37 AM
Hedlund looks the part but imo he is nowhere NEAR a string enough actor to pull it off. He didn't even convince me as a generic "hero" type in Tron Legacy.
punkstealingluggage - 2/8/2013, 11:38 AM
OTHER...NONE of those choices make sense...

Sorry, but Harrison Ford has a VERY particular look, style, sense of humor etc. You can't just dip into the ol' "Hollywood hottie" bag-of-boys and come up with a PROPER young Solo...

On that note...I vote for Jonah Hill
JoshWilding - 2/8/2013, 11:38 AM
Some great choices on there, but I would have to go with the brilliant Michael Pitt.
Stinger - 2/8/2013, 11:39 AM
I hope the story for the spin-off, back story of Han follows AC Crispin's trilogy..
Triptheorist - 2/8/2013, 11:39 AM
I rather they didn't make a Han spin-off at all. You don't frak with perfection.
RPD - 2/8/2013, 11:39 AM
Emile Hirsch, yo. Not that it has any bearing on why I picked him whatsoever, if you guys haven't seen Killer Joe rent that shit. It's great...
yingyangpalms - 2/8/2013, 11:40 AM
The very obvious choice would be Taylor Kitsch.
KelvTwelve - 2/8/2013, 11:40 AM
For a younger actor, I'd go with either Kit Harington or Emilie Hirsch, Emile has a real youthfulness to him, but Kit is an almost stunning comparison.

They HAVE to be under 30 though. This is why no to James Franco.

Ummmmmm......did they release any info on when this movie takes place?
SuperDude001 - 2/8/2013, 11:43 AM
KillerOfSaints @ How would they be a YOUNG Han Solo? The best they could do is a remake of the Han we first saw, but never younger I mean look at them.
jedibasswatson - 2/8/2013, 11:45 AM
Check out this guy he is Harrison ford

Havensent - 2/8/2013, 11:46 AM
I wouldn't cast anyone in this list. Literally, none of them have any sort of resemblance to my dude Ford. So I didn't vote.

If I had to vote though, the closest would be, Dave Franco and that's about it.

yingyangpalms - 2/8/2013, 11:46 AM
After Shia Lebeouf got his beat down from some Fat slouch hes disqualified from action heroes who can fight.

He is however fit for duty as a Nolan Batman since Lebeouf already knows how to get beat up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thing is, the voting more depends on how young he would be in the film (if it does happen that is, as isn't it only a rumour right now?). Cause if it's more just how Han become Han he would be very young, but if it's a film leading from Jabba to Han meeting Luke we'd only need someone with 30s look.

LEVITIKUZ - YOUNGER Han Solo, yes? The clue is in the title there. It's the bit that says "young Han Solo"
DioFoRio - 2/8/2013, 11:51 AM
I think they are looking to go really young. I'm guessing teen dudes.
DioFoRio - 2/8/2013, 11:53 AM
they should just use harrison and just dress him up as a kid in his teens shaggy wig and all. pretend he had elephantitis as a kid. Having affairs with his grade school teachers...don't mind me I'm hopped up on suppliments!

This is HAN SOLO
Paragon79 - 2/8/2013, 11:58 AM
Tom Hardy would be good.
Facade - 2/8/2013, 12:03 PM
I just HOPE it DOESN'T happen!!!
PaulRom - 2/8/2013, 12:04 PM
Emile Hirsch would be good. Never thought of that idea before.
PaulRom - 2/8/2013, 12:05 PM
If they were going with a direct follow-up to Return Of The Jedi rather than a big time jump, I think Brolin would be brilliant as Han.
