Bryan Singer On MAN OF STEEL; Endorses Nicholas Hoult As A Young Han Solo

In yet another interview, the Superman Returns director gives his thoughts on Zack Snyder and his upcoming Supes reboot. He also discusses the whisperings (rumors?) that his Jack The Giant Slayer star Nicholas Hoult may play Han Solo in a Star Wars spin-off..

While once again discussing X-Men: Days Of Future Past (he doesn't reveal anything new) director Bryan Singer is asked, by Moviefone, about the possibility of his young Jack The Giant Slayer actor Nicholas Hoult playing a younger incarnation of Han Solo in one of the Star Wars spin-off movies. The site reckon they've seen "Hoult's name on some shortlists" for the role (we haven't) and ask Singer about it. Not only does the director like the idea, but he even came close to mentioning it to Hoult himself.



"I don't know anything, but I literally would not be surprised if something like that happened. I almost said something to Nick today about it, like, "You know, I wouldn't be surprised if you find yourself in one of those." But I have no idea, even though I'm working with Simon Kinberg every day and he is involved with that franchise, I have no information about that. It's just my own intuition."


As everyone here on CBM will know, Singer directed the first ill-fated Superman reboot, Superman Returns. The film is generally seen as a noble failure (and that might be generous to some), so what are Singer's thoughts on what fans will hope will be movie redemption for the big blue boy-scout, Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel? "Oh, very excited to see it. I love the trailer, and I think Zack Snyder is incredibly talented," says Singer. "It would have been strange for me if this was a few years ago; it would have been a little weird. But now there's so much distance from that world that I'm actually pumped to see it, genuinely. So I'm just looking forward to it."

Yeah, it is all well and good casting a 'good actor', but and this is a big one, they are going to struggle to find someone who has that natural charisma and suave that a young Harrison Ford had.

Not only that Ford was more of a Man's man, whereas most of these young actors today look like weak pretty boys.

So, I won't same it can't be done, but it'll be difficult to do a young Han Solo.

Nice to see humility among directors with regards to reboots of work they've contributed to.

I can't see Hoult as young Han Solo... I can't see anyone as young Han Solo. There's no point in making that movie - it's one of the more unnecessary Star Wars spin-offs. The Boba one sounds good though, and plausible too (if it's set between Episodes 5 and 6 as rumoured, they could show Han in carbonite, and anyone could physically play Boba since he's always masked and just bring back the voice-actor, and presumably he'd just interact with characters like Jabba and other bounty hunters - all aliens or masked too, no recognizably aged actors)

2 X-Men films, Superman Returns, Valkyrie were all mediocre films that really achieved nothing but casting gays + lesbians.

Singer failed but at least he didnt produce the worst live action superman movie...that would go to Superman 4 the quest for peace....

I would say he produced the 2nd worst as unlike most fans i actually enjoyed superman 3 but mostly because of the superman / clark kent fight

Am i the only one tired of seeing guys in there mid to late 20s playing teenagers. Maybe if u used actually teenagers u wouldnt have to reboot series when the actor starts to look his age!

Lots of hatred against Singer. Also the guy who made X2 which stands for me as one of the best CBM films yet.
Yes, I hate the leather costumes.
I hate what was done to Cyclops.
I think Singer used Magneto so much because of his gay agenda.
Halle Berry/Storm sucked as well.

But X2 features too many awesome moments for me to dismiss Singer as a director. It's easy to bash him now seeing how well Marvel is producing their own films.

Superman Returns was boring and horrible. Routh was great in it though and with a good script, he could have produced something amazing. Something you guys don't realize is how hard it is to work with WB. They are the reason Returns was so bad. Likewise the ending of Smallville. Bash Singer all you want, but WB is more to blame than he is.

I'm not a Singer fan, by the way. I would have preferred Days of Future Past by Vaughan. But I do think Singer can do something good with this film. Or maybe I just hope he can.

As for his comments about Hoult... who cares? You guys are just bashing Singer for the sake of bashing him. I'd love to see any of you make a better X-Men film than he did.
