Sam Raimi Says There Will Be An EVIL DEAD 4

Good news Deadites - It seems that despite all hope seeming lost for a fourth Evil Dead after the remake was announced, Raimi does indeed have plans to continue the story. Will there be Ash? Will it still be tongue-in-cheek? No clue, all we know is the script is planned..

Sam Raimi was in London today attending a Meet the Filmmakers event for OZ The Great And Powerful, and of course some Evil Dead questions were sent his way. Someone asked about a fourth movie, continuing on from Army Of Darkness, and surprisingly Raimi replied: "I would love to make Evil Dead 4. My brother and I plan to work on the script this summer." The brother is most likely Ivan, co-writer on Army of Darkness and Drag Me to Hell, and not his actor brother Ted, who appeared in Spider-Man. There were rumblings of a fourth movie for a long time, continuing right up to the announcement of the upcoming remake, but since that it was just assumed any plans were scrapped. Of course saying there are plans to write a script doesn't quite equal "we're getting the movie", but at least we know it's on Raimi's mind. Let's just hope Bruce Campbell will be back for this one!

The question to me is...will it follow from the director's cut, or the theatrical cut?
AlexTheKaiser - 3/1/2013, 4:04 PM
THANK GOD!! I was hoping for a real follow-up to the awesomeness that it's evil dead, but my expectations died after the remake was done...now...they're back!! I hope he get's this movie done and he directs it and we can have a proper Evil Dead Sequel.
marvel72 - 3/1/2013, 4:06 PM
evil dead(original)was good, evil dead 2 was very good.i can't remember much of the third army of darkness.
NoJobBOB - 3/1/2013, 4:12 PM
Would be awesome. Not sure where it would fit considering the new ones coming out soon.
Nick56 - 3/1/2013, 4:13 PM
army of darkness has always been my favourite ED film. Remake looks awesome but i would still like to see a sequel to the originals
Chloefornication - 3/1/2013, 4:16 PM
Oh shit [racial slur], this made my day.
SmithWillSuffice - 3/1/2013, 4:19 PM

Time to get in shape Ash.
dadarkknight - 3/1/2013, 4:29 PM
Why do I get this strange feeling that if the remake does well the main character, the heroine who suppose to be the ash of the movie will probably meet up with the real ash in the deadite world in the new e.d. Since ash dead not speak the correct words from the spell. It would be cool if someone read from the book and zapped him back into the correct world be the only thing is a couple of decades so he would have to adjust to the times sort of like dark shadows but better.
hope420 - 3/1/2013, 4:32 PM
I'd rather see part 4 then a remake written by the Juno chick!!
jessepostal - 3/1/2013, 4:32 PM
The two evil dead games on ps2 were always my evil dead 4, hope they make another.
DylansMyDog - 3/1/2013, 4:35 PM
YESSSSSSSS!!!!
Superguy15 - 3/1/2013, 4:37 PM
Great news! Wondering if it will be called ARMY OF DARKNESS 2, or EVIL DEAD 4? Also, since the last Evil Dead movie was in the 90's, and with the remake coming out, calling it EVIL DEAD 4 could confuse casual viewers.
IIIAdamantiumIII - 3/1/2013, 4:38 PM
hope he is dead b4 it begins
Giznad - 3/1/2013, 4:43 PM
@Levitkuz, but Ash must win!
OriginalGuardiansPlease - 3/1/2013, 5:05 PM
I would much prefer:

Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash

which at some point had a chance of coming to fruition at some point but they only ended up doing comics.
Lizardking310 - 3/1/2013, 5:07 PM
Directors cut ending please.!
thorhulk77 - 3/1/2013, 5:18 PM
Booooooo
thorhulk77 - 3/1/2013, 5:18 PM
Just kidding.
TheHeat - 3/1/2013, 5:19 PM
If he is planning to make an ED4, then why did he and Campbell both bother with the remake?
abw2 - 3/1/2013, 5:25 PM

Hold on, what happened to Evil Deads II and III? I, obviously, missed something...

MrMartinMarvel - 3/1/2013, 5:45 PM
I find this news very...Groovy.
NoJobBOB - 3/1/2013, 6:02 PM
@Levitkuz - Same here.

@ Giznad - I agree
Growler - 3/1/2013, 6:04 PM
There could be a great extrspolation from the supermarket ending of Army of Darkness, where Ash is this wizened old supermarket manger with one eye on the door, the other on a chainsaw.

Wouldn't be a bad way to start it off...
SpiderBat209 - 3/1/2013, 6:07 PM
Let this be True! PLEASE! For the Love of God, Raimi, DON'T be BULLSH*TING ME!!! :(
TheFox - 3/1/2013, 6:08 PM
... What?

WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHAT?!?

That... that is genuinely awesome! You know, I've been thinking that, the way thing have been going with reboots, sequels, and prequels, audiences are pretty savvy these days-- so it seemed like the obvious escalation in terms of franchise development would be multiple simultaneous iterations, right? I mean, it's not like Hollywood is BETTER than that; if it would sell, why not exploit a franchise in two separate film lines?

... Of course, Sam could simply be full of shit here. After all, HOW many times has he claimed that he'd do an Evil Dead 4? The guy is probably sick of the question, and has decided to just screw with people by throwing out comments like this.

Either way, the remake looks amazing, so I'm okay.

Still irritated that Raimi didn't let them make Freddy Vs Jason vs Ash. "Oh I might want to do something with the character." It's been 10+ years.
spidey1994 - 3/1/2013, 6:12 PM
Hold on, if that's the case, what was the point of doing the remake?!
Giznad - 3/1/2013, 6:40 PM
@Gusto at your "10 years" comment. 666 fricking love that comment.
MintCondition - 3/1/2013, 8:04 PM
@ruadh that's a rather absurd question. Of course it would follow the theatrical cut. That's the official version of the movie.

The Army of Darkness comic book by DDP Comics followed right after the events of AoD, because that is the real official version of the film.
nach1wan - 3/1/2013, 8:20 PM
that was weird
mgeoff88 - 3/1/2013, 10:08 PM
YES!!! We get a sequel to AOD! Forget the remake. I want ED4!
xfan320 - 3/1/2013, 10:28 PM
I kinda got a feelinng that Bruce may show up in this new Evil Dead...

It makes perfect since given the new group of kids..he could be the guy who warns them not to go to the cabin in the beginning..lol

Either way, plz be real!
Wrez - 3/2/2013, 1:14 AM
As much as I would just love to see Ash kick some deadite butt, the remake makes me skeptical of any continuation to the original trilogy.
Canon38 - 3/2/2013, 2:33 AM
New evil dead = Ultimates Universe
Old evil dead = 616
johnnyblaze113 - 3/2/2013, 8:55 AM
Their are things in the "Remake" trailers that make me think that it is actually set in the original Evil Dead universe. I doubt it, I don't think it makes much sense, I don't know how they could do it. But maybe just maybe the next movie fits in to continuity and The original Bruce Campbell Trilogy is like story A and this new is story B and it can all tie together.
goatman - 3/2/2013, 9:47 AM
So, despite the title of the article clearly saying there WILL BE an Evil Dead 4, both the source and author's description state that there are only plans for an Evil Dead 4.

Oh well, you got me to click the link. Objective accomplished.
deanwilkins - 3/2/2013, 5:57 PM
I only want it if Bruce is in it. If he is in it... I'm lining up now.
Superguy15 - 3/2/2013, 6:45 PM
This is a great example of a series being treated right. Yes, they're doing a remake, but they're also continuing with the original series. Just because a remake happens, doesn't mean they can't go back to the original continuity. Man, I hope the HALLOWEEN franchise uses EVIL DEAD as an example.
Superguy15 - 3/2/2013, 6:47 PM
Wondering if they're planning sequels to the remake. Would be cool to see two EVIL DEAD series being mad at once. Would be cool if the sequels to the remake went in a different direction than the originals.
SotoJuiceMan - 3/2/2013, 9:06 PM
The Ash Knight Rises!

GUARANTEE IT!
FoxForce5 - 3/2/2013, 9:21 PM
Seriously, every Evil Dead fan knows that the S-Mart ending is not cannon. Rami has said so on numerous occasions. That being said, I don't dislike the S-Mart ending and would be pleased with picking up from either version, so long as it has Bruce Campbell in front of the camera and Sam Rami behind it.

Call it: "Evil Dead 4", "Army of Darkness 2", "Within the Woods: Once Again", heck, call it "Ashley Williams Gets a Late in Life Circumcision: One Man's Tale of Pain", whatever...

Just get on with it, Sam and Bruce and my ass will be in the theater to watch it!

Now, Hail to the King, Baby!!!
