So About That EVIL DEAD 4 Script..

It seems Sam Raimi might have spoken out of turn when he revealed to fans at a Meet the Filmmakers event in London that he and his brother would soon begun work on a script for Evil Dead 4. According to the director the crowd "made him say it"..

Deadites, adjust your expectations for a fourth Evil Dead movie accordingly. Only last night we reported that Sam Raimi and his brother Ivan were to begin working on a script for the third sequel to the groundbreaking horror flick this Summer. Where did we get that idea? Straight from the horse's mouth! They were direct quotes from Raimi from his appearance at a Meet The Filmmakers event promoting Oz The Great And Powerful. But now the director has done some backpedaling, claiming the overanxious crowd egged him on to the point he felt he couldn't say no.

"Those guys made me say that. I am thinking about it but a crowd goes 'Come on Sam, do it!”' so I said 'Okay, I guess I was talking to my brother about it' But I feel like I was pushed into saying that, a little bit. In the hallway today I joked with Ivan 'Get working on that script!' but I really don’t know. I’m afraid that every time I talk about it people get really mad at me when I don’t follow through with it. I would like to work on the script over the summer, that much is true. But the reason to come back and do it again is only that they’re making me, those fans. I was saying to Ivan 'Why do they stay on this thing? Why do they keep at it?' and he said 'They want to make a movie. You’re a filmmaker and your fans are asking you to make the movie. What are you, an idiot? Make the movie!' I guess there’s something I don’t see. It makes sense when Ivan says it… but I didn’t have a tremendous amount of passion until right now to bring to it. I love working with Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert, I have so much fun making those movies, so… but the fans are really forcing me into it."

Well, he does say there's some passion there..still hope? I doubt it. From the way Raimi is talking here I'd say it will be a very long time - if ever - before we get to see Ash wield his boomstick again, and it most likely won't be Bruce Campbell doing the wielding.

I'm still wondering if the "remake/reboot" is actually in continuity or not.
Evil dead 4 could come after that possibly, Ash comes in to fix what a bunch of kids have re unleashed.
DylansMyDog - 3/3/2013, 7:56 AM
Yes your fans want the movie, be glad people like what you do Sam! Make the movie!
DaNeGeRoUs - 3/3/2013, 8:00 AM
F U Sam!! Evil Dead is what made you, you douch! You should make the movie cause you want to give back to the fans, not cause the fans are forcing you. respext lost for raimi.
Rowsdower - 3/3/2013, 8:12 AM
Bruce Campbell talks a lot trash about a Evil Dead 4, but I think it would turn out to be fun for pretty much everyone.
CaptainObvious - 3/3/2013, 8:15 AM
The bottom line is it's not up to the fans to bring it back. If Raimi feels there is more to do with Evil Dead, then it should be brought back. But if he only does it for the fans and not himself, then perhaps it's not best to move forward with a fourth film. It always boils down to what the creator wants to do.
jessepostal - 3/3/2013, 8:21 AM
I don't think raimi has it in him anymore, He was good at B movies, he was good when he didn't have a name, maybe it's just his movie choices but to me he went bland
HellsHammer - 3/3/2013, 8:23 AM
Yeah fans are forcing it because we want it! It's about us Raimi! The sooner you and all the studios realize that the better!
RorMachine - 3/3/2013, 8:23 AM
I liked Drag Me To Hell.

Yeah I liked Drag Me to Hell....have an evil dead vibe to it :)

You know what happened the last time he was forced to do something because of the fans? The Injustice of Venom in Spider-Man 3! Did not it justice at all. And why? Because he was pressured into doing so because "that's what the fans want". Don't listen to the fans just for the fans sake. If you want to do something worth doing, then do it. Don't be pressured, otherwise it comes out like Spider-Man 3. Ugh!
DRMidNite - 3/3/2013, 8:31 AM
Yeah! What tea said!
SuperDude001 - 3/3/2013, 8:34 AM
Raimi seems like a real weakling. I mean I get the pressure of fans stuff, and like he shouldn't make it if he's being forced cause then there is no passion, but if they're asking for it doesn't mean he has to try and say a vague 'yes' like he did.
Like fans still want Firefly back but you don't hear Joss Whedon giving to pressure and saying 'oh well maybe we're working on stuff ya know if you want it' he gives an honest answer that he'd want to but he felt like it ended well.

I second that, Drag me to hell was awesome!
EmoSpidey - 3/3/2013, 8:36 AM
Raimi's a douche! "They made me say it." are you kidding me?! I lost all respect for this guy after he sabotaged Spider-Man 3. He doesn't care about the fans at all.
hope420 - 3/3/2013, 8:42 AM
If he's that easily persuaded if I meet the man I'm gonna bug him for a job and money!!!;)
DylansMyDog - 3/3/2013, 8:51 AM
I would also take a drag me to hell sequel
Superguy15 - 3/3/2013, 9:02 AM
I think DRAG ME TO HELL is the closest we're gonna get to an EVIL DEAD 4...
TheHeat - 3/3/2013, 9:12 AM
Drag Me to Hell was a good movie.
CaptainObvious - 3/3/2013, 9:12 AM
@AmazingSpiderJosh- Nope. Sony sabotaged Spider-Man 3. Raimi did not want Venom at all but they forced the character into the film. By your logic, he doesn't care about the fans because he doesn't feel like making another Evil Dead film. A decision like this is not up to the fans. It takes more than just wanting to satisfy your audience. You have to have passion and excitement for your project or it fails.

Anyway, Drag Me to Hell was an underrated film.

Yeah, I figured as much.

Maybe an film focusing on 'Old Man Ash'?

@AmazingSpiderJosh sure he [frick]ed up Spider-Man 3 (I agree with MrMxyzptlk: the studio forced Venom on him, not all the other shit he threw into the film), and sure 'They made me say it' is a lame excuse/huge cop-out. But that doesn't mean he's obliged to make Evil Dead 4. There's a saying - always leave your audience wanting more.
ABLEE337 - 3/3/2013, 12:10 PM
And you must add Venom.
EmoSpidey - 3/3/2013, 12:11 PM
@captainobvious
Here's where you are wrong. He was told by the studio to add Venom, but then he has even said himself that by that point he didn't care anymore. So instead of making the best of it, he quit trying. He still could have made a solid movie even with being forced to add Venom.
GenerationX - 3/3/2013, 12:18 PM
Y'all need to give up on that damn movie....
StSharp - 3/3/2013, 1:13 PM
You guys need to stop calling him names just beacuse he doesnt really want to make the movie lol

Do you know what it takes to make a movie? Its YEARS of someones life to try to come up with something, especially if its something GOOD.

I hate people that call people names because theyre actually crying inside.

STOP BEING F*****G BABIES!
EmoSpidey - 3/3/2013, 1:29 PM
I think the problem that everyone has with him, is not that he won't make the movie, it's that he is telling everyone what they want to hear and not living up to it. He should have just said that he isn't making the movie to begin with. And then he turned around and put the blame on the fanboys and said that they forced him to say it. Stop defending this guy that won't own up to his own mistakes. It's always somebody else's fault.
PapaMidnight - 3/3/2013, 3:17 PM
Drag me to Hell was [frick]ing awesome! Raimi is a great and creative director.
A link between this reboot and the old films wouldn't be a bad idea. Let's wait for the reboot hitting theaters.
BlueDemon - 3/3/2013, 3:59 PM
[frick] yeah!!!! Do it! Do it!!
mgeoff88 - 3/3/2013, 7:38 PM
If he's not passionate about doing ED4, it will affect the quality of the movie...

I would rather him do this when he's actually interested.
