James McAvoy (Seemingly) Confirms Alan Cumming's Return For X-MEN: DOFP

In an interview with Heat Radio, the Scottish actor appears to have let slip that Alan Cumming - who played Nightcrawler in Bryan Singer's second X-Men flick - would be reprising the role for X-Men: Days Of Future Past..

James McAvoy may not have found the time to read the script for X-Men: Days Of Future Past yet, but that doesn't mean he hasn't been privy to some inside information courtesy of director Bryan Singer. In a recent radio interview, McAvoy appears to confirm that Alan Cumming will be back along with the rest of the returning cast to once again play fan-favorite mutant teleporter Nightcrawler.



"It’s huge, the cast is huge. You got me, [Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender,] Nicholas Hoult will be back and he’s just blossoming massively over [in america]. Patrick Stewart, Ian Mckellen, Halle Berry, Alan Cumming, Peter Dinklage I hear mentioned – I don’t know if that’s happening – “Huge” Jackman is coming by. He’s massive, 7’5″ and muscle-ly.”


The X-Men stuff comes in around 4:44




Seems pretty cut and dry, but of course until we get official confirmation - usually coming in the form of a Tweet from Singer - we'll leave a question mark over it. How would you feel about Cumming joining the already jam-packed cast?

I've never been this excited for an X-Men film before. It's really shaping up to be the ambitious project, hopefully it pays off.

I hope so! Best thing about X2!!!! Probably we could get some of his backstory with mystique, but since azazel is not returning maybe they won't touch the subject? or mystique gets pregnant and azazel is gone D:

I want to see him in his traditional X-Men costume not those robes from X2!! Regardless I'm still pumped to see him possibly return for Days of Future Past. Although he'll be dead it would be good to see his whereabouts during the film.



I can still remember asking my dad if I could go to the restroom when we sat in the theater together watching the opening scene for X2. I was 10 back then, I don't know why I was scared of him?? Maybe it was those freaking eyes!! lol

I know it sounds weird, but I would love for them to incorporate alternate timelines and crossovers..ala "back to the Future" and have the casts jumping around into each others' films..

Or have Apocalypse be manipulating events and altering timelines to bring about the age of Apocalypse...

Either way, this film is gonna be SICK!!!

it would be awesome if he returned,he was the best character in x-men 2.

i would also love to see one day a motion capture nightcrawler,you know done in the same way as gollum a more comic accurate looking nightcrawler.

Great night crawler is back he had the best opening scene of any CBM in X-2 all I could do was say Damn what a scene glad he's back

That would be reason enough for me to watch Bryan Singer's pastiche of DOFP.

Maybe they can make Alan a Nightcrawler skin, like Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique skin.

You need some great audio to fully appreciate that White House scene from X2.

Adding a powerful family dynamic like that could do nothing but help this franchise, not harm it. Imagine them being shown as a family only to be ripped apart by a mutant hating society. Powerful stuff right there.

Don't dispair, Singer hasn't finished a script or casting...When are they scheduled to start shooting? Oh well, as long as there are 80 god damn main charactors, it'll be a foX-Men movie.

Man, this is the only X-Men we will be getting for quite sometime. I have given up on the blind hate. As a comic book reader all I'm doing here is hoping for the best now. I have no other live-action X-Men films to look for so I might as well keep my fingers crossed these guys get it right this time. You do know there are people from the industry that come to this site right? Maybe one of them will read our ideas and make things better. So instead of your rage, how bout you start throwing some ideas around that could make this better. All that rage can't be good for you.
