MAN OF STEEL: Amy Adams Says She Didn't Want Her Lois Lane To Be A "Pest"

In the new issue of Total Film, Amy Adams discusses her portrayal of Lois Lane in Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel. She talks about the other times she read for the role, as well as the relationship between her and Supes, and what she hopes to bring to yet another incarnation of the character.

Adams has been a little cagey about revealing too much about her take on the most famous female reporter in comics in the past - as the entire cast of Man Of Steel have - but in an interview with Total Film she opens up..a little! When quizzed about Lois' relationship with Superman in this movie Adams hints at a bit of conflict early on. "I'd say that they're at odds and then they're...friends you know!" You probably already know that Adams actually read for the role previously, but did you know she read for it twice? "When J.J. Abrams and Brett Ratner were planning a version, I actually did a screen test with Matt Bomer," says the actress. "And then when Superman Returns came round I read again. So this is my third go at it." Sounds like she really wanted to play this character then. But will she bring anything new to yet another incarnation of Lois Lane? "I wanted her to be a woman other women could relate to. And not be sort of a pest. Lois can be kind of omnipresent, turning up at very inconvenient times - which she does! - But you understand her reasons." Adams also briefly discusses her action scenes for the film. She says she didn't have that much to do, but most of her green screen/stunt work was for scenes with "another actor". I'm guessing that's Michael Shannon's Zod, but who knows! Be sure to pick up the latest issue of Total Film for much more on Man Of Steel.

Good to know that she will have a purpose to be in the film beyond the 'need to have Superman save someone' role.
TheDetectiveComicRises - 3/15/2013, 11:12 AM
Bless your heart honey because I don't either I think Amy Adams will be a great Lois Lane. It was great to see her interact with Batman/Bruce Wayne lol himself Christian Bale in the Fighter.

I look so forward to Man of Steel more than any other film this year!

How Kate Bosworth was chosen over Amy Adams.. I'll never know.
CavEl - 3/15/2013, 11:15 AM
But...Lois has always been a pest.

Also, love that they're going Animated Series route instead of Reeve's "gee golly" routine. I want a Lois and Clark rivalry!
CavEl - 3/15/2013, 11:17 AM
@ BigMike - Amy doesn't look like Kidder, that's how Singer casted Superman Returns...based on looks.
BigMikeReviews - 3/15/2013, 11:19 AM
Oh Singer... tsk tsk
Ramiel - 3/15/2013, 11:21 AM
I'm going to see MoS to see Amy Adams.
RichardHedski - 3/15/2013, 11:24 AM
Bosworth was a cute Lois. A little young but still did a good job. Not sure about Adams. She'll be 40 by the time a sequel comes out and hell with a 3rd movie she'll probably be a freakin grandma!
Fantine - 3/15/2013, 11:27 AM
So Henry Cavill audtioned for Superman in Returns? and Amy audtioned for Lois? Both lost out?

Seems like they both really really want these roles, and our destined to fill them.

Facade - 3/15/2013, 2:41 PM
She's one of the homeliest Lana Lang's, er, Lois Lane's.
Celenco - 3/15/2013, 2:59 PM
@Dopamine

Dude are you serious? You really think Amy Adams looks worse than Kidder?

You must be on DRUGS.

She's gonna be awesome...love her look and age means nothing if you still look young, lets see whats she brings to the role first.

"Amy adams= one of the worst looking lois lanes"
"Kate bosworth was fugly." Seriously, dudes, when was the
last time you had your eyes examined? I'll bet you're not
that critical when you look in a mirror.
Facade - 3/15/2013, 3:32 PM
@FredLL1950...I'm bearded and slightly balding, so I don't think I'd make a good Lana, either.
Super12 - 3/15/2013, 4:15 PM
Kate Bosworth was a great Lois IMO. She was the Lois Singer wanted, but not the Lois we deserved...

:)

I don't think there is anything more hilarious than a bunch of comic book fans commenting on the ugliness of all these hollywood actresses. HA! You guys never cease to crack me up! I'm sure Amy Adams & Kate Bosworth stare longingly into the windows of their local comic shops & think 'one day..maybe..I'll get one of those real men in there! Oh who am I kidding, they are so out of my league"
JorL5150 - 3/15/2013, 7:15 PM
@marvelwiener-

I'd hit that. Lot of yummygoodness up in there. Mmm-hmmm.
darkknightmare2012 - 3/16/2013, 7:50 AM
look she is great in many ways BUT if you were superman wouldnt you be like hey babe im a hard 10 and your like a 7 on your best day .. 5 years ago .. i will say this for sure she is waaaaay better then margot kidder .. even when i was 8 years old i was like why would supes want this chick .. she is horrible ..
ChrisEl - 3/17/2013, 11:19 AM
For those bashing on Kidder's looks, you have to remember that the original Superman was produced in a time when you didn't have to look like the perfect supermodel to be considered attractive. I mean, look at Reeves. He wasn't the most handsome man who ever lived either. That being said, Kidder and Reeve were both still above average when it comes to looks.
darkknightmare2012 - 3/18/2013, 10:24 AM
sorry bro .. but i know attractiveness is in the eye of the beholder but i dont see any way kidder would get supes hot and botherd .. she was below average even by 70s looks ..
