Reese And Wernick Tease Their "Grounded" VENOM Movie

In an interview with Collider the Zombieland duo discuss their "realistic, grounded, dark" script for the Spider-Man spin-off which is unlikely to see the light of day. They also describe what would have been a pretty cool scene from the movie..

As far as we know Sony are still planning on moving forward with their Venom movie with Chronicle helmer Josh Trank attached to direct, but according to Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick it probably won't be adapted from the script they pitched. "It likely will not become a movie in that form", says Wernick. "Too many things have happened in between now and then and different people have been involved, and it’s just likely not to happen in the form that we wrote it, unfortunately.". But the writing team do say they are proud of the script, describing it as "realistic, grounded, soul search-y." The two also once again comment on their Deadpool script, saying they felt they "nailed" that, but came pretty close with Venom. Will someone please make one of their superhero movies please? Anyway, they also paint a picture of a scene from the script for Collider, and it sounds pretty awesome.

"Imagine a symbiote traveling across a city at some point in the movie, jumping from body to body as it goes, and each person that it inhabits ends up becoming really violent and striking someone else and then it jumps to the next person. There was a really cool sequence like that in there."

Jollem - 3/26/2013, 11:26 AM
^^yup
Spideyguy94 - 3/26/2013, 11:35 AM
@LEVITIKUZ If its flash Thompson then yeah. Otherwise don't bother, Eddie Brock is a great villain but he's not a good hero. How can you expect to like a character that does a good thing but was eating someone brain 20 seconds prior.
BrotherStarkofMABMindz - 3/26/2013, 11:37 AM
If any comic book antagonist deserves their own film it should be Magneto
DrDoom - 3/26/2013, 11:44 AM
I want a Venom film, but not made by Sony, and DEFINITELY not in the TASM universe.
bluedude - 3/26/2013, 11:48 AM
@LEVITIKUZ yes very much so
You dontvhave to watch it though so why do you care
Odin - 3/26/2013, 11:49 AM
I'm not sure if I even want a Venom-film anymore, I don't like Flash Thompson-venom at all.
OrgasmicPotatoe - 3/26/2013, 11:49 AM
I want a Venom movie also. Make it violent.
RorMachine - 3/26/2013, 11:51 AM
I'm with Gusto, Fox know what to do with these characters.
Bread - 3/26/2013, 11:51 AM
I want a Venom movie really bad actually. An R-rating would be awesome.

RorMachine - 3/26/2013, 11:53 AM
And it has to be NC-17..or better yet, X.
Jollem - 3/26/2013, 11:54 AM
i think fox would make better iron man movies
WorstUserNameEver - 3/26/2013, 11:55 AM
Sony have made 2 good Spidey films so it doesn't dictate that a Venom from Sony would suck but yeah didn't think a great deal of TASM.

I look forward to a Spidey-verse within the movies but I don't expect it to fulfill its potential unless it ever returns to Marvel.
RPD - 3/26/2013, 11:57 AM
Most over-rated villian ever.

I think they need to develop him from the 'Amazing'Universe. Hopefully in thi film Flash joins the military and loses his legs, and he gets the sympiote in the third.
ATrueHero1987 - 3/26/2013, 12:04 PM
That scene sounds similar to another scene in the movie "Fallen".
Jollem - 3/26/2013, 12:05 PM

MatchesMalone1989 - 3/26/2013, 12:07 PM
"Reese and Wernick were found badly beaten up for trying to make the next Venom movie." CBM please let me know when this happens because that will be a great day.

@BrotherStarkofMABMindz

I agree but First Class was pretty much a Magneto movie.
ATrueHero1987 - 3/26/2013, 12:10 PM
@Jollem It is. Even though the ending kinda made me mad.
jessepostal - 3/26/2013, 12:10 PM
I want a venom movie, but pure bad guy venom, told from his point if view with his struggle overcoming a hero. The compete opposite of every superhero movie.
MatchesMalone1989 - 3/26/2013, 12:10 PM
And as much as I love The Dark Knight Trilogy. I curse Nolan for starting this realistic or "grounded" trend when it comes to Cbms which means they are pretty unrealistic to begin with.
Jollem - 3/26/2013, 12:12 PM
@Marvel87 - yeah. i can see that. great cast, tho
Spiderhog - 3/26/2013, 12:13 PM
r rated venom movie sounds awesome
Martay - 3/26/2013, 12:16 PM
"soul search-y."

No.
PsyGuy - 3/26/2013, 12:20 PM
I'd also love an R-rated Venom!
DanteSparda - 3/26/2013, 12:21 PM
@MatchesMalone1989.

That began with the first X-Men movie, since then every super hero movie have been more grounded in reality than they are in the comics.
Optimus83 - 3/26/2013, 12:21 PM
I want Venom Solo Film. ...after Marc Webb/Andrew Garfield Trilogy

with Eddie Brock

MisterNiceGuy - 3/26/2013, 12:37 PM
The Flash Thompson Venom would be too similar to the styles of a Deadpool movie, not the character obviously but the look, weapons are violence would be.
Battabing - 3/26/2013, 12:38 PM
Do. Not. Want.
Ancar - 3/26/2013, 12:38 PM
Honestly, who wants to see a Venom movie?
MrMartinMarvel - 3/26/2013, 12:45 PM
@fettastic If only Spider-Man 3 was like that.
Tony93 - 3/26/2013, 12:52 PM
can someone explain how there can be a VENOM film with no relation to Spidey?
hartley07 - 3/26/2013, 12:58 PM
I want to see 3 movies. A spiderman 3-esque movie (where spiderman doesnt dance) that ends when eddie changes, a movie where venom is the villain, and a third movie where spidey and venom team up and fight carnage. Forget electro, get started on venom before friggin andrew garfield turns 50 please!!! I dont want to see venom rushed again! And am I the only one who wants a spiderman-daredevil team up movie? Not gonna happen, but just saying.
Ocelot - 3/26/2013, 1:00 PM
@Tony93 depends on who's in the venom suit, if it's brock then it cant work, if it's flash thompson or that mafia guy who had the suit for a bit, then it could as you wouldn't need parker/spiderman in the film. If the film was ever made they should just use flash thompson venom where he becomes an agent of the government, have him fight I dunno carnage or eddie brock
