RUMOR: Is Marvel Looking At Saoirse Ronan For Scarlet Witch In AVENGERS 2?

It's casting rumor time again! No offer has been made of course, but word is that Marvel have the Irish actress in mind as the "prototype" for the Scarlet Witch role in Joss Whedon's Avengers sequel. Read on for more..

SHH reckon they've sussed out which direction Marvel are planing to go when it comes time to cast the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver roles in Avengers 2. They don't have any info on who the studio might have in mind for the latter (though they reckon the movie version of the character will be "euro" and "edgy"), but apparently they are looking for a Saoirse Ronan "type" for Wanda Maximoff.

"Although Joss is still writing and probably not ready to send anything out to actors, for the two roles, they're generally looking for actors in their 20s and we've heard word that the "prototype" for their Scarlet Witch is none other than Irish actress Saoirse Ronan. Except something to note is that they're going "British" for the role rather than trying to have actors playing Eastern Europeans."

If this is true and Ronan is who they have on their radar, there's nothing to suggest that an official offer won't be made when it comes time to cast the roles. Ronan is a great actress (we won't blame her too much for The Host!), but does she suit this character? Sound off in the usual place.

I could see her in the role honestly. She was young but good in City of Ember.
superotherside - 5/10/2013, 7:03 AM
Wow, if this is true they are going young for Wanda, she's 19 right now. Of course by Avengers 2 she'll be 21 but still. It's somewhat surprising. But I don't mind the casting or age.
RorMachine - 5/10/2013, 7:04 AM
I was unsure at first but the more I think about it, I actually like her a lot for the role.
superotherside - 5/10/2013, 7:09 AM
The more I think about this, the more I agree with it. Wanda should be younger than most of the team. Thus it makes sense why they wouldn't fit as well with the rest of the team. Plus I always felt that they were both younger than the rest of the team.

Just hope they get someone that's good to play Quicksilver.

Personally, I don't think they have to change their origins. They just don't have to address it. They can dance around the word mutant and their father quite a bit and still have a solid story for them.

Plus in the original comics they didn't know Magneto was their Dad for a while right?
marvelstudios - 5/10/2013, 7:19 AM
Makes perfect sense to get young actors. Like in the comics they didn't know their father till they were older.
HAILHYDRA - 5/10/2013, 7:19 AM
I will belly laugh if Marvel gets Quicksilver on screen before DC does Flash. Oh gawd that would be hilarious.
JonStarkgaryen - 5/10/2013, 7:20 AM
Khan - If I was more tech savvy, I'd post the Red Skull "YOU ARE FAILING" gif in response to your casting recommendation for Quicksilver. That turd? Are you kidding?!?!

How about Gosling?

JaiHo - 5/10/2013, 7:21 AM
She`s not a bad choice. I`m more interested in how they`re gonna explain/show her powers (altering probability is a difficult concept to pull off on screen).
JoeMomma29 - 5/10/2013, 7:21 AM
Wow I wonder how they will explain their mutant powers?

@HailHydra

I hope they do get quicksilver on the big screen before the Flash, that way DC can see what works and what doesn't putting a hero with super fast speed on the big screen.
jlabatman - 5/10/2013, 7:22 AM
Pietro-[frick] no, lil bitchass!
Wanda hex me to the maximoff- all day long, put her sexy ass on screen!
BadassBay - 5/10/2013, 7:22 AM
Good call Khan.

Saoirse Ronan is a great actress. I happy if this is true.
DarthVenom - 5/10/2013, 7:24 AM
Ryan Gosling as Quicksilver
MrMartinMarvel - 5/10/2013, 7:24 AM
Enough with the freaking Mary Winstead!
jimoakley666 - 5/10/2013, 7:25 AM
She'll have a similar accent to Fassbender in First Class, then. Ha ha ha.
Blarcade - 5/10/2013, 7:26 AM
I'll take Scarlet Witch, but can she come without Quicksilver? There's so many other people I'd rather in an Avengers sequel than Quicksilver.

When I heard them talking about a "brother/sister" combination for Avengers 2, everyone jumped to Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, my mind made a jump and thought Captain America and Captain Marvel, having two captains for male and female. Captain Marvel, referring to Carol Danvers, is my choice for who I want most in the sequel.
jlabatman - 5/10/2013, 7:27 AM
Vital? If you call a whiny pretentious asspirate with daddy issues and a creepy incestual crush on his sister, vital, I guess! Never liked Quiksilver, he just sucks!
marvelstudios - 5/10/2013, 7:27 AM
OMG yess Ryan Gosling for Quicksilver pleaseeee.

But i think he might be a bit older than what Marvel are looking for.
TerminalVoyd - 5/10/2013, 7:29 AM
@Khan

Yeah, Tom Felton is fine and all... save for his thing where he can't pronounce an "R" to save his life. Or should I say pwo-nounce.

Yeah, Quicksilver doing the British Elmer Fudd thing might get old quick.
LMFA0 - 5/10/2013, 7:30 AM
Ryan gosling for quicksilver? I thought y'all wanted him for flash lol... For real guys you can do so much better than that. If they are going for 19-21 year old for SW then why the hell would her twin be in his mid 30s? Common sense people
TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM - 5/10/2013, 7:30 AM
15 years ago I would promote James Marsters for Quicksilver.
mctrinket - 5/10/2013, 7:31 AM
Sure. Why not. And get this young buck to play Quicksilver:

Icemanisthecoolest - 5/10/2013, 7:32 AM
Summer Glau would be good for Scarlet Witch, and she has history with Whedon.
RadicalDuck - 5/10/2013, 7:33 AM
Man, I think she could be pretty good. And Khan's suggestion of Felton is good too :-)
jlabatman - 5/10/2013, 7:33 AM
Paul Rudd?

I like this, I REALLY want Tom Felton as Quicksilver, I think he'd be fantastic, always have done

Morena Baccarin as Wasp:

Nomis1800 - 5/10/2013, 7:41 AM
She'd totally own it.
Orphix - 5/10/2013, 7:43 AM
Kind of confused with all this SW/QS 'news' coming from SHH. If we are getting these two then surely they can't be portrayed as mutants - so will they be aliens?? Inhumans, maybe??

So why would they be portrayed as British? Or eastern european or whatever they decide to say they come from.

And Whedon has also stated (along with the brother/sister thing) that ALL the previous Avengers will be part of Avengers 2. So surely there isn't room for these guys to be on the team (yet). Will we see them as villains first?? And then Avengers in A3?
Jwe75 - 5/10/2013, 7:43 AM
Paul Rudd? Did not see that coming :) Damon for Pym and Summer Glau yes for Wasp! Keep R McAdams out from Marvel premises
hourman78 - 5/10/2013, 7:43 AM
Scarlet Witch-Eva Green
Quicksilver-Ian Somerholder
jlabatman - 5/10/2013, 7:43 AM
Gotta say, though Ronan is not very Woodley-esque!
SageMode - 5/10/2013, 7:48 AM
Ian Somerhalder for Quicksilver

Emily Blunt for Scarlet Witch

ruadh - 5/10/2013, 7:49 AM
If they're going British with the role, why is and Irish actress the prototype?
riseofloganX36 - 5/10/2013, 7:49 AM
Why not get an asian girl or black girl make her a drugged up actor like the mandrine.

You know emeby the real scarlet witch is out there.

What a waist! nailed it!

I love Khan's suggestion for Quicksilver. I can't stand that character and I'm sure Felton would make me hate him more, in a good way. Nice call.

I also like Ronan for the part. She's an up and comer and one of the better young actresses out right now. Can't wait to see her in Byzantium.

Going young for Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver is the smart move in my opinion. Especially if you plan to rotate out the original cast down the road.

In casting Antman and Wasp, I think you need to think of them being the leads once the cast rotates out. Not sure if Rudd or Jones have that kind of draw when it comes to the big screen.

I think Gosling would be better as Antman than Quicksilver. I would also go with Emilia Clarke as Wasp.
JonStarkgaryen - 5/10/2013, 7:52 AM
Khan: Maybe I don't like your choice b/c I'm not a Harry Potter Fan Boy...

Marvel is hiring A-list actors for these roles, and that arian D-Bag is C-list at best.

I do like your call on Rudd though...

aurorsand147 - 5/10/2013, 7:54 AM
because she is a master of accents, she can pull of most of the accents required for her roles.
i like that they are going Euro for SW & QS. they already made a mistake with black widow.
Gary8264 - 5/10/2013, 7:59 AM
Scarlet and Quick were both younger when they joined the Avengers, so don' mind the age so much. She matured into her powers over time, so makes sense for her to start outta lil younger. As long as she's sexy like George Perez use to draw her.
@supercat, that looks perfect for Scarlet to me.. haha
gambgel - 5/10/2013, 8:03 AM
I hope its not true.

She doesnt fit someone as powerfull and iconic as Scarlett.
