When Robert Downey Jr. suffered a serious injury and had to take 6 weeks to recover, Shane Black and co. obviously kept production going on Marvel's Iron Man threequel..but they didn't only shoot scenes without Tony Stark in them. For that last scene with Tony overlooking the beach from the ruins of his mansion for example, a body double was used and Downey Jr.'s face superimposed in much the same fashion as the "Skinny Steve" version of Chris Evans was created in Captain America: TFA. “Together with face replacement and full body doubles, somewhere there was a solution to the problem of not having Robert Downey Jnr on set for the time,” explains Iron Man 3's VFX supervisor Chris Townsend. "We were able to reconstruct RDJ as Tony Stark on set, with the help of a body double and the facial captures we'd collected afterwards." I've seen the movie twice and never noticed a thing, but then I wasn't looking..did you guys pick up on anything? Read the full report at the link below.

I KNEW IT!

Okay, I had no idea.

Do more facial captures - more of them - shitloads of them - work up a whole library of expressions and cgi-map his entire body and face...

So Downey can ALWAYS be forever-young(ish) charming and roguish as we all love his Tony Stark.
DrDoom - 5/22/2013, 1:30 PM
If they can do that, maybe they can keep RDJ on as just the facial actor if he ever can't physically perform the role.
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 5/22/2013, 1:31 PM
I saw this in another news website and thought that by then somenoe would post this up. Anyways, that's cool. Didn't even notice. It's [frick]ing amazing with what we can do with technology, nowadays. Hell, I'm still amazed with the Skinny Steve Rogers in CA: TFA. This pretty much sums it up....

;)
MarvelWeiner - 5/22/2013, 1:31 PM
I read this a while ago
SimyJo - 5/22/2013, 1:31 PM
That way Downey could do the voice-over and stay as Stark for the next 20+ years.

(OMG imagine the fee!)
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 5/22/2013, 1:31 PM
@DrDoom - Perhaps. I guess we'll see soon enough.

There's enough "Fake" going on in that movie!
Eloisio - 5/22/2013, 2:29 PM
Much of the Brazilian fans hated the film: Iron Man 3.
Not only the distortion with the villain Mandarin in relation to its comic book character.
There are many holes and errors in the script:
You can not understand the real interest of the main villain.
If Tony Stark was a target because it only after giving the address is that it engages in Mandarin drama?
As the army was testing the technology Extremis and nobody noticed that people turned human bombs?
Why will the doctor in the house of Tony Stark make a deal with him? As I understand it, the technology extrimes was ready and gave no more crashes when people explode, why is ejected more substances in their bodies.
And if we want to compare the movie with the comics, at least respect the previous films.
Tony Stark almost dies in the movie number 2 because the Paladium and creates a new element in order to keep the reactor ark without intoxicating your body. And in this third film they disregard all this and takes the splinters of the bomb as if it were the most natuaral world.
And lastly, if Tony Stark has a protocol to gather all the armor, because this protocol has not activated at the time of the attack on his mansion? And that thing sleeping Jarvis was one of the worst things in the script. Not to mention the excessive jokes that become tiresome and annoying throughout the film ...
In short ... The movie is the worst of all the movies from Marvel Studios ...
Brainiac13 - 5/22/2013, 2:29 PM
Yeah Skinny Steve Rogers was amazing!!!
Brainiac13 - 5/22/2013, 2:41 PM
@Eloisio

SuperSpiderMan5778 - 5/22/2013, 2:52 PM
i noticed the fake mandarin...this movie was shit
JimmyPesto - 5/22/2013, 2:53 PM
That was the best part of the movie
TheChameleon - 5/22/2013, 2:58 PM
Hold on this means RDJ can be in every single Iron Man movie now without actually having to. Brilliant! Soon the'll be able to choose any actor & put CGI RDJ facial/body over their acting & done! Instant Success!
agentmi5 - 5/22/2013, 2:59 PM
Did you spot the fake mandarin?
Thegeekygurl - 5/22/2013, 3:07 PM
Lets just call it a fake Iron Man film.
Jollem - 5/22/2013, 3:08 PM

SuperSomething616 - 5/22/2013, 3:11 PM
No way!!! Really...

WTF!?
yingyangpalms - 5/22/2013, 3:11 PM
I just checked the quality version on a 2K site to see that scene and once you look for it you can tell.
But even watching that minute of the film was unbearable. I wont even watch it for free.
Its easily in the class of Green Lantern and Batman And Robin.
113 - 5/22/2013, 3:19 PM
Only thing I noticed was the terrible movie I was watching.
Jollem - 5/22/2013, 3:23 PM
out of the "revolutionary" mcu, i like tih and the avengers the most. i hope "phase 2" steps it up
ThePowerCosmic - 5/22/2013, 3:27 PM
Man you trolls are working hard today. Blowing this way out of proportion. IM3 was excellent, Manadarin was handled awesome and funny. Marvel is not trying to do the dark crap that all you DK fans love. get over it!
Avenged99 - 5/22/2013, 3:28 PM
@SpaceRobot that yellow will never stick, hope thats not yours. who on planet earth would use so much Yellow??? hope you got a life time of free touch ups.
JoeMomma29 - 5/22/2013, 3:29 PM
Wow so Tony did not have to fight in his armor nor did the real actor have to really act in the movie! Dang Marvel/DC your guys are brilliant!
