Good to hear about his aversion of killing. IMO it should be one of main plot points heading to the sequel. They have to make it worth, and mean something.

Agree with the killing, him killing zod will be the reason to not kill in the future, you could see the pain he was going through after killing zod,I think he felt a little guilty because he killed his own kind, the first of his kind he properly encounters and someone who knew his father

I didn't mind him killing Zod, it just shouldn't have been so easy. Aren't they supposed to be invulnerable?

After seeing the movie...was there anything really spoilerific that wouldve been jaw dropping? Other than the Wanye Ent. Satellite, there was nothing really big as in plot twist or cameo...and speaking of cameo, wasnt there suppose to be a big cameo from an actor that was in the Donner/ Superman movies? I swore I thought it was going to be Gene Hackman.

So Zod buys it in the end. What happens to the other remaining Krypton's? Do they just give up after losing their leader? I'm going to see it tomorrow, but don't mind spoilers.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm getting a little annoyed with all these movie writers and directors making comments after the movies are released telling us what it was they were trying to do or say in the film. If you have to take the time to explain it then you failed to do your job. I didn't need IM3 explained or justified because I don't expect EVERYTHING on film to be like the comics, but they never should have come out afterwards to try to explain it or justify it, its weak. Goyer and Snyder should never have started explaining why they failed in some areas...it makes them look inept. Just say hey we have to save something for the next movie and leave it at that. At least then you look like you know what you're doing, you have a plan, and the fans have something to look forward to. (and the only thing I think is a mistake that needs addressing is Supes lack of concern for the deaths and damage that occurred during his battles; it's more important that he deal with that than killing Zod...Zod was justifiable. A character development for the next movie that I can see Lex or Brainiac exploiting. But don't waste our time explaining yourselves.)

Snyder's visuals is what carries MOS. i think nolan knew how bad a writer goyer is and that's why he asked snyder to take on the project. To those who have seen the movie, think about the time you got past the adrenaline rush from all the action sequences, you'll realise how weak the dialogue was.
man why can't geoff johns and timm partner up to write a story?
Flashfetish
Flashfetish - 6/17/2013, 11:00 AM
and before people start talking about how good the writing was in batman begins and dark knight, i should point out that goyer was only a co-writer in those stories. He had help from jonah nolan and apart from that, big bro nolan also had a say in what went into the movie

...soooo...in order to have an aversion to killing people I need to kill someone to see how much I don't like it? That makes absolute sense! I think we should add a scene like that to every movie to show why the main characters aren't killing people. Otherwise I'll be totally confused as to why no one is being killed on screen. Thank god we have brilliant people making pop-culture pop.

still not a good enough reason. There are other reasons Superman has an aversion to killing, and none of them involve him killing someone on his first day as Superman. In most versions, it's because of the strong moral backbone he's raised with. If you're going to kill Zod and use it as the reason Superman decides to stop killing once he's started, at least make it an accident. If he snaps Zod's neck, make it because he didn't realize just how much more powerful he was. At least don't make him do it on purpose. Not on his first real confrontation. It sets a bad precedent, and if you're ever going to tell a story where Superman does set out to kill a villain (i.e., Doomsday), you've lost the moral agonizing and shock value of Superman using the 'final decision'

Huh, I understand know why he had him kill Zod, since he never what it was like to kill this could be the reason why in the future of him as Superman he never kills

He didn't even need THAT reason. He killed him because he had no choice, he killed him to save innocent lives and..SUPERMAN ONLY DOESN'T KILL IN YOUR ROSE TINTED MIND! He has in the comics, he has in film before this, and that is all that matters. This version of the character that has never taken life is a damn phantom. You might not LIKE that he kills, but stop saying it's in any way a slap in the face to the character because you sound like a fool quite frankly.

actually dont mind supes killing zod at all, even if strong arguments could be made that supes could easily deflect zod's heat vision with his palm, or simply just jump up and fly away with zod held tight in his arms.

my beef is supes's seemingly uncaring and reckless actions around civilians. he punched and threw his enemies with reckless abandon in highly populated areas with no care to where they might crash or what kind of destruction that would cause.

same treatment given to his mama. when ma kent got threatened, supes launched into anger mode and went on to fight zod, completely forgot that his ma was still at her home at the mercy of other kryptonians. that seems to be the principle of this new supes: fight first, worry about casualties later.

some fanboys have tried to justify this callousness by saying this supes is still green, he's "inexperienced", it's his first time, whatever.

EXPERIENCE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. if you're having a battle in a highly populated area, people are going to suffer and die. if some nerds in the internet could figure it out, surely supes can. and his biological dad is supposed to be the smartest man in krypton, so that makes supes either reckless and uncaring, or extremely stupid. take your pick.

I don't know why ppl are so upset about Zod being killed when those same ppl practicaly idolize the Donner's version which Superman ''happily'' broke his hand and then tossed him down a pit to his death.....

The movie was great not perfect but great. Superman did everything he could do in that movie to save who ever he could was it focused more on lois? Yes but isnt it always. This situation wasnt as simple as catching a plane or putting out a fire this was an anilihation of the human race their wasnt a bank robbery to stop just people who were just as strong as he is trying to destroy the planet he even killed zod to save a family which messed with him. His sole purpose in this movie was to stop the kryptonians and he did so with the only tools he had. I just thought it was odd he gave up on krypton so easily but i liked it still. You dont like this movie fine dont see it but for the next three years till the sequel comes out.

I agree with Zod, but I also think when it comes to saving people, that will be something that should be focused more on next time seeing as this was the beginning of him becoming Superman, not really being the greatest from the start but learning about it all and next movie could implement that part of the characters evolution.

What would the argument be if Supes let Zod kill that family? What if Snyder had done that instead?

"...soooo...in order to have an aversion to killing people I need to kill someone to see how much I don't like it? That makes absolute sense!"

hehe... agree with your sentiment. his aversion to killing is from his decent upbringing by the kents. it's that simple. watching that scene i never got the notion the killing was meant to be the origin of his aversion, just that supes killed cause he got 'no choice'. snyder only shoot himself in the foot by trying to explain himself.
