Although it was rumored to be the case late last night, The Wrap now confirm that Bradley Cooper is in early discussions to voice Rocket Raccoon for Marvel's space-set adventure, Guardians of the Galaxy. According to them "an offer is in place and talks are ongoing, though no deal has been made". Fans were surprised by this development when the rumor fist hit, as -- although Cooper has been a fan favorite choice for a variety of superhero roles -- not many could picture him proving the voice for the gruff, machine-gun toting raccoon. Now that this looks to be official (though the deal may go south of course) what are your thoughts?

No source? Seems legit.
ekrolo2 - 8/22/2013, 11:27 AM
Or they could have done the not stupid ass choice and just get the guy who did the voice in Avengers EMH and Marvel VS Capcom 3.
80sFace - 8/22/2013, 11:28 AM
Cooper was on Alias and there was one episode where he pretended to have a British accent. It was decent.
Knightrider - 8/22/2013, 11:30 AM
Wow...that would be a waste. I'm not saying he wouldn't do a great job, but if you get Bradley Cooper you get his face on screen as it sells tickets.

Seems like a great length to go. Although they may be taking the approach of: Rocket Racoon is so silly, but if we get a 'Bradley Cooper' playing him, then people will take him seriously.
charlie2094 - 8/22/2013, 11:32 AM
Fine with this, no one knows better than Gunn who can voice Rocket and definitely worse choices than Cooper. Can imagine him in the role, not particularly liked many of the Rocket voices I've heard before

@Knightrider

It's only a voice, wouldn't be surprised if he does turn up in another role at some stage, assuming DC don't get him first.
charlie2094 - 8/22/2013, 11:33 AM
@80sFace

Why's Rocket need a British accent? Didn't know he had a determined voice
Jazza815 - 8/22/2013, 11:36 AM
No thanks.
3DWitchHunt - 8/22/2013, 11:36 AM
Im fine with this
LordMushu - 8/22/2013, 11:36 AM
No. No. No. Still not buying it but we''ll see. This could be weird.
JordanKing - 8/22/2013, 11:38 AM
It's an unexpected, but brilliant choice i think. Not one casting choice in this film has been predictable.
ATrueHero1987 - 8/22/2013, 11:39 AM
This is interesting...especially since he'll be in a movie(somewhat) with his ex-girlfriend.

Definitely a choice that I haven't seen floating around here on the site. If he does get the role, it'll be interesting to see what he has for the character.
ezio619 - 8/22/2013, 11:52 AM
wait, didnt bradley cooper and zoe saldana used to date, boy that would be awkward, rocket and gamora ,getting it on!!
MrCBM56 - 8/22/2013, 11:56 AM
Love the choice, this video makes me believe it can work.

Great choice.
AllHailMegatron - 8/22/2013, 11:56 AM
Cool with me
SageMode - 8/22/2013, 11:56 AM
Its kinda annoying how People are adamant about Rocket Raccoon having a cockney-British accent. Again, it's never, ever, since his debut in the comics in the 70s that he's alluded or mentioned of having one. It's not a big deal.
crashrendar - 8/22/2013, 11:57 AM
Meh. Should've gone with someone better voice wise. Cooper just sounds regular
Godzillafart - 8/22/2013, 11:57 AM
Unless they expect RR to sound like Christopher Walkin, I don't see this working.

I hope to be proven wrong, but my excitement for GOTG just dropped a few notches.
Ranger14 - 8/22/2013, 11:58 AM
Still think Cooper is a "meh" choice. I would like to see RR with some type of accent or even as someone mentioned, Tom Waits would be an option because he has a unique voice. RR shouldn't have a regular voice so why have a regular voice actor portraying him?
novaprime - 8/22/2013, 11:59 AM
I HOPE HE IS CASTED IN GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY BU AS NOVA PRIME!!!! NOT NO RICKETT RACCOON HES TO GREAT OF AN ACTOR TO VOICE A [frick]ING RACCOON GET, SIMON PEGG, STATHAM, OR TENNANT FOR ROCKETT!!! LEAVE COOPER FOR RICHARD RYDER/NOVA PRIME!!!!
MisterNiceGuy - 8/22/2013, 11:59 AM
I don't see it. But we'll see
jlabatman - 8/22/2013, 12:01 PM
eh why not?
MisterNiceGuy - 8/22/2013, 12:01 PM
I pictured a more raspy voice. Like Danny Devito. Not saying it should be him but def a voice similar to his
Ranger14 - 8/22/2013, 12:03 PM
Sage@ it doesn't matter if he never had a cockney accent in the comics. In EMH he did have one and it seemed to fit fairly well, so there's nothing wrong with someone liking that take on him. I prefer some take on his voice different than a straight American accent. We can't assume Cooper would deliver a straight American voice, but who knows.
ndwwrestler2 - 8/22/2013, 12:03 PM
Great actor...but Rocket Racoon? We shall wait and see on that one.
novaprime - 8/22/2013, 12:05 PM
Nova Priiiimmmeee!!!! NOOOVVVAAA!!! PRIME RICHARDS RYDER!!!
80sFace - 8/22/2013, 12:05 PM
@charlie - in the comics RR's got a British accent - or maybe Scottish. So...doesn't have to be, but BC did a good job with it.
MalteseFalcon - 8/22/2013, 12:05 PM
Cooper will use his regular voice and it's going to rock along with Vin's dry humor.
novaprime - 8/22/2013, 12:06 PM
Coooperrr!!! For Nooovvvaaaa!!!!
smgmayhem - 8/22/2013, 12:06 PM
Its funny that a lot of users always bash El Mayimbe when he spills news, they bashed him about this one too and it turned out to be true. People just like to jump on the bash wagon in here.
CharlesLord - 8/22/2013, 12:06 PM
Like I said last night, I can see him doing it. That video of him impersonating people is hilarious btw. I really think he would be better in a starring role (stark or something) but this isnt a bad choice
novaprime - 8/22/2013, 12:08 PM
This is Cooper http://marvel-war-of-heroes.wikia.com/wiki/Centurion_Nova_Prime_Nova
DefcoN - 8/22/2013, 12:08 PM
Faith guys, have some faith.
OldBenKenobi - 8/22/2013, 12:11 PM
Actually, he'd be a way better Richard Rider. Especially since they're not fans of the Guardians, seeing him butt heads with Zoe would be entertaining. But I wouldn't mind this choice. Gunn knows what he's doing.

I'm actually looking forward to this more than any other Marvel movie coming up (except maybe Cap 2).
beane2099 - 8/22/2013, 12:13 PM
I honestly have no problem with that. Get a couple big name guys to do some voice work. It adds some extra cache tot he film. When an actor signs on to a Marvel flick, they're usually signed on for multiple flicks. Vinny D and Bradley Cooper probably wouldn't want to do that anyways. So why not use them for Groot and Rocket? Rocket doesn't HAVE to be British.
