Benedict Cumberbatch's Reps Deny STAR WARS Role

Despite numerous sites running with the story, and even some supposed details on his specific role making their way online, Cumberbatch's reps have said there is "no truth" to the rumor that he's been cast in Star Wars: Episode VII. But can THEY be trusted?

The rumor confirmation/denial game is always a funny one -- basically it's very rare for an actor's representatives to officially confirm a casting scoop, and on a few occasions they've flat out lied about it. Still, more often than not if it's more than just a "no comment" and a full statement of denial is released, then that usually ends up being the case...and that's what we have here. “There is no truth to the rumor Benedict has been cast in Star Wars,” a spokesperson for the 37-year-old actor told NY Daily News. “I think the rumors are circling because JJ and Benedict have just recently had a wonderful time working together on Star Trek .” That may be the case, and it may not! This in no way means Cumberbatch definitely won't be a part of the movie; we're just bringing you the latest update, and that update is...according to his camp he ain't in the movie! We'll surely find out one way or another soon enough.

ndwwrestler2 - 9/3/2013, 11:52 AM
Seriously...What else are they gonna say?

"Ah damn...you got us, it's true"?

If this rumor isn't confirmed this week or the next, than I think we can officially call it a Bs rumor.
SpecialKail - 9/3/2013, 11:56 AM
must be because he's already been fancast in every other movie ever.
Ineedrevelation - 9/3/2013, 12:02 PM

He's one of the actors out right now worth a [frick]
Ineedrevelation - 9/3/2013, 12:09 PM

gambgel - 9/3/2013, 12:18 PM
and some weeks later, there will be an official confirmation.

As always.
TheOneAboveAll - 9/3/2013, 12:20 PM
hmm...
GodzillaKart - 9/3/2013, 12:31 PM
His talents would be better used elsewhere.
BritishMonkey - 9/3/2013, 12:35 PM
I knew it. Didn't see it likely.
Reasonnnn - 9/3/2013, 12:56 PM
If it was El Mayiambe, you guys would dismiss this instead of "waiting weeks later". Not to mention he nailed two solid scoops in the past couple of weeks.
jlabatman - 9/3/2013, 1:00 PM
Tired of hearing this [frick]ing guy's name attached to every single CBM/Sci_fi movie that comes out!
JR - 9/3/2013, 1:13 PM
whatever what did you ppl expect? they always denied the rumors, but I bet J.J. will get him a part in this movie ;)
Greengo - 9/3/2013, 1:34 PM
He hasnt been cast...

...yet.
Greengo - 9/3/2013, 1:35 PM
Lol levi
inkslinger616 - 9/3/2013, 1:53 PM
Thrawn?? Yeah he would be awesome as Thrawn.
GodzillaKart - 9/3/2013, 1:53 PM
He would be a great Dr. Strange. I (and others) have been saying that since before Abrams pooped out the crappy STID.
inkslinger616 - 9/3/2013, 1:54 PM
@slavemasterflexxx....that pic you have of the Rock makes me think of Zekk. The Rock could be Zekk.
Nomis1800 - 9/3/2013, 1:55 PM
still want
Panoramacon - 9/3/2013, 1:58 PM
Yeah, just like Abrams denied being the director before it was confirmed. News flash, people lie.
HugoStrange87 - 9/3/2013, 2:01 PM
I guess the Cumberbatch for every single role there is fan casting can begin again.
JediPhilosopher - 9/3/2013, 2:18 PM
Lies! :P No big deal to me. I'm not hinging my hopes on one actor. As I see it, I'm going to be seeing this one on the big screen no matter what, because it's Star Wars. If it sucks, then I won't be paying to see its sequels.
Lhornbk - 9/3/2013, 3:10 PM
I didn't believe it in the first place, at least not the rumor about him being a major, if not THE major, villain. Abrams might want to do that, but I just don't see Lucasfilm or Disney allowing THE MAIN Star Trek villain to become THE MAIN Star Wars villain. It would be like asking Ricardo Montalban to play the Emperor in RotJ right after Wrath of Khan, everyone would watch the Star Wars film and basically see Khan as the villain. I just don't see that happening, cause I don't think Disney wants the comparisons. Maybe he plays a more minor character, but not a major villain.
Lhornbk - 9/3/2013, 3:14 PM
By the way, do fanboys not watch any channels other than BBC America, AMC, and HBO? I always see the exact same actors suggested for every role-Jon Hamm, Cranston, Mangiello, Cumberbatch, Elba. Seriously, there's over 200 channels on Dish, Direct TV, and most really big cable providers. Expand your viewing habits a little. Lol
TheManWithBigEars - 9/3/2013, 3:22 PM
I really want to see him as the Joker, think he could really bring out the cerebral mind-[frick]er element of the character out very well
beane2099 - 9/3/2013, 4:06 PM
Benedict Cumberbatch has become the British equivalent of Nathan Fillion. The two of them should be in a buddy comedy called "The Things We Should Be In". That or "Little Fockers: The Teenage Years".

Oh and Cumberbatch is my pick to play Shortround in the Indiana Jones reboot.
pintoman - 9/3/2013, 5:04 PM
Sometimes I hate this time in which we live. Let's cast for characters people—not actors with fan bases.

yingyangpalms - 9/3/2013, 5:22 PM
Cumberbatch's Khan is by far the worst villain in the history of Trek films.

It was Khan without a dick and balls. "Vagina Khan".
VaCubFan - 9/3/2013, 6:50 PM
i won't believe it until El Maybe/Cassidy say to
VaCubFan - 9/3/2013, 6:54 PM
Lev... nonono... he's going to be the newest TMNT "Picasso" and voice Blackbolt in the upcoming (un-confirmed by El Maybe) Inhumans movie!
pandatan98 - 9/3/2013, 9:18 PM
Ambram`s people said he wouldn`t be doing Star Wars, but look at him now. DOIN` STAH WAHZ.
Inhuman - 9/3/2013, 10:03 PM
It be cool if they brought Ahsoka Tano as an adult into 7, 8, & 9. I always wondered what happened to her after Clone Wars
MightyZeus - 9/4/2013, 12:08 AM
Eh, i wouldnt care if he wasnt in Star Wars. It would'nt effect me. I'm not a fan girl that's head over heels towards the actor.
Dunejedi - 9/4/2013, 12:03 PM
Did his rep say anything about why he pulled out of that Del Toro flick? Or was that a rumor too?
Dunejedi - 9/4/2013, 12:04 PM
Hehehe, I said, "pulled out".
AUSSYACE - 9/6/2013, 11:53 PM
NO NO NO...
