Ray Park Still Wants To Play "Iron Fist"

MTV is reporting that the "GI Joe" star is still coveting the much sought after role of Danny Rand in an "Iron Fist" movie.
At last weekend's Wizard World Chicago, an audience member asked Park(Darth Maul, Snake Eyes, Toad) what his dream role would be...

"I actually want to be Danny Rand -- I want to be Iron Fist, I want to do it," Park said. "I've been blond before. I'll work on the American accent as well."

Park joked that one of the main reasons he wants the role is to shake off his trademark ninja clothes and Sith robes for something a bit more revealing.

"I want to have an excuse to take my top off and show off my abs," he joked. "Or, take my top off and work to get my abs back that I used to have when I was 19."

Park was previously attached to the role back in 2001 when the movie's rights were held by Artisan Entertainment. Now that the rights have reverted back to Marvel, Park said that if we do see Fist onscreen it will be right beside his Heroes For Hire buddy Luke Cage!

"If they ever do an 'Iron Fist' movie, it's going to be with the two [characters] teaming up," he said.

No doubt Park is an amazing martial artist and he was hands down the best thing about GI Joke. But the only actual acting skills he has shown were in "X Men" when he played Toad. The results were...not great! But hey, it's been years since then, so who knows how he has progressed. I say let's see what ya got sir!

Thanks for the pic Leee;)

Ray Park should play Daredevil.
SirPrize - 8/11/2009, 11:02 AM
I think he would be perfect for Iron Fist. The movie would be better if they had both Iron Fist and Luke Cage together kind of like a Lethal Weapon movie or Tango and Cash type of feel to it.
ironknight27 - 8/11/2009, 11:03 AM
He would be great at almost any hero

tyko450 - 8/11/2009, 11:08 AM
Hell yeah Ironknight27! I like that, Tango And Cash, Lethal Weapon, maybe a Rush Hour feel...GOTCHA! Yeah, minus the Rush Hour. Ok, back to work.
Stumblin - 8/11/2009, 11:10 AM
The conditioning he is in I agree. I took some Wu Shu classes and that is some tough stuff.
SirPrize - 8/11/2009, 11:11 AM
I dont really know anything about Iron Fist but he looks good for the part.
Ozymandias - 8/11/2009, 11:11 AM
Ray Park was Awesome as snake-eyes and he'll be cool as iron fist too
InSpace - 8/11/2009, 11:13 AM
I liked him as toad. But he didn't have much of a chance to show any acting skills, just a small line of dialog here and there.
Chiyonosake - 8/11/2009, 11:16 AM
Hey guys, new to this site. I believe that Ray Park would do awesome as Iron Fist. He deffinitely has the martial arts aspect down. And I deffintely would rather see him in a movie with Luke Cage rather in a solo movie. (maybe they could bring in other characters from Heros for Hire for cameos or for future films??) Peace :)
Phileo26 - 8/11/2009, 11:18 AM
hi phileo26. Im new too, welcome. I think heroes for hire always did better than luke cage and iron fist seperatly. comic book wise.
Chiyonosake - 8/11/2009, 11:24 AM
Stumblin- I liked Rush Hour. But yeah if they do a Heroes for Hire I hope they do have that sort of feel to it.

Actually I hear that the Iron Fist solo book is a great read right now. I have been meaning to catch up.
ironknight27 - 8/11/2009, 11:24 AM
this I would like
SoulAllFlush - 8/11/2009, 11:25 AM
I beg to differ. Ray Park did well in his various roles on screen. Ballistic, Daredevil, the more recent Taken. This is his time. Let him kick some f'ing ass.
Scorpioxfactor - 8/11/2009, 11:27 AM
Go Ray :)
teabag - 8/11/2009, 11:37 AM
ya for real hes put his time in and if he can act i would love to see him in an iron fist movie that would be a kickass one with heroes for hire
SabretoothTiger - 8/11/2009, 11:42 AM
Guys - yes he is an excellent martial artist, but let's face it... he can't ACT his way out of a paper bag! Plus, there's his accent to deal with (why do you think he was dubbed in 'Phantom Menace'?). He's a glorified stunt double - let him stick to what he's good at.
loganoneil - 8/11/2009, 11:42 AM
Daredevil? Was he in that?

Guys, Rush Hour?? Are you frakking kidding me?
Rorschach01 - 8/11/2009, 11:44 AM
what ror you didnt like rush hour
SabretoothTiger - 8/11/2009, 11:46 AM
Ray Park would be the perfect Iron Fist. That or Brandon Lee (if he was still alive).

IRON FIST RULES!!!!! Can't wait to play as him in Ultimate Alliance 2!!!
TheCritic17 - 8/11/2009, 11:49 AM
I agree. Can't wait for MUA2
Chiyonosake - 8/11/2009, 11:57 AM
I met Ray Park at a convention and he was the nicest guy. A bunch of us went out for drinks and we ended up drinking in his room and we were watching TV and on TBS I think had that movie with ANtonio Banderas and Lucy Lui (I forget the name) and Ray Park plays the bad guy in it and he popped up on the screen. Ray Park was so excited to see himself on TV. He deserves to be a lead in some movie.
DeathWalker - 8/11/2009, 11:58 AM
Ahhhhhh sh!T im on the WW POST dammit!!! ; D

RAY PARK IS IRON FIST!!!

Your Welcome @ ROR @ Anytime! ; )
LEEE777 - 8/11/2009, 12:01 PM
damn sir prize....
I never thought about him in that role...he would kick ass as Dare Devil...good idea.

he got the look n skills for Matt Murdox but like he said... he needs to work on his american accent. I think that might hold him back a little. Off the break movie exe know they will have to cast a voice talent. like Darth Maul.

I wonder who voiced him.
snake eyes is perfect, lol

Dont forget he played in Ballistic: Eck vs Server

vonstallin - 8/11/2009, 12:05 PM
Scorpioxfactor: Yeah... he wasn't in Taken nor Daredevil.

In the early post here, someone mentioned him playing Daredevil, and though I think he'll do a shit-ton better than Ben Affleck, he still doesn't have the acting ability to do a good Matt Murdock.

I think he'd make an excellent Iron Fist... or perhaps (I can't be the only person who's thought of this)... Ronin. Though seeing him as Hawkeye would work, the Clint Barton he fits best is Obviously Ronin... but he did say he wanted to shed his Ninja attire

DeadWebHead - 8/11/2009, 12:17 PM
Nah, not DD. Hes far too short and not exactly Matt Murdock handsome is he?

Saber, no i did not like Rush Hour. Chris Tucker makes me want to punch a baby. But even if i did, its a buddy slapstick comedy movie! Is that what you really want to see Heroes For Hire become?
Rorschach01 - 8/11/2009, 12:18 PM
Ror-Not Slapstick but more of that love/hate relationship like in Lethal Weapon.
ironknight27 - 8/11/2009, 12:25 PM
Ray Park cannot act! And if he and Jason Scott Lee have showed us anything, it's that some people have a "knack" for something whether they grew up training for it or not. Jason Scott Lee didn't know how to fight before he shot Dragon yet he was so good he learned right before shooting and actually fought like the real Bruce Lee when compared to Bruce's previous films. Ray Park however doesn't have the "natural" acting talent and has done [frick] all in regards to acting classes. He sucked in X-men and needed a voice over in Star Wars. If he really was that passionate about the role, he should stop focussing so much on his next martial arts gig and start acting classes NOW! I say Statham would be a better Iron Fist for the moment. Oh and by the way, Matt Murdock requires much much more acting talent than whatever Statham AND Park could ever deliver on their best day!!! Matthew Fox or Clive Owen for Daredevil!!!
Shaman - 8/11/2009, 12:29 PM
BLAH BLAH BLAH @ SHAMAN! ; D

Ackes in AVENGERS is the same as TATUM in GI JOE!

CRAP! ; D

RAY PARK is a great Martial Artist an good actor, what we need for DANNY RAND!!!
LEEE777 - 8/11/2009, 12:35 PM
Excellent news @ ROR @ You da man!!! ; )
LEEE777 - 8/11/2009, 12:38 PM
Shaman Fox and Owen are the best i have heard for DD too...i would give the edge to Owen though. I also like That guy from Dexter..can never think of his name..
Rorschach01 - 8/11/2009, 12:40 PM
I would love for them to to do an IF movie, and I would love it if RP got the role.
DarthMulder - 8/11/2009, 12:47 PM
Give it a rest LEE - not only are you boring but you're a sore loser!

I dont know about Ray Parks acting skills but a Heroes for Hire movie would be AWESOME!!!
joshw24 - 8/11/2009, 12:49 PM
Ror- Michael C. Hall and yes he would be a good Daredevil. He is playing a villain in that new movie called Gamer.
ironknight27 - 8/11/2009, 12:50 PM
I think Park could pull it off with a major acting workshop like Shaman says. He looks perfect for it..and obviously can kick the requisite ass.

ironknight27 sorry i get you, yeah that part of it would be vital i would say. A Lethal Weapon 1 type chemistry.
Rorschach01 - 8/11/2009, 12:51 PM
@Ror- No worries. I still watch LW1 everytime it comes out on TNT and I own the damn movie.
ironknight27 - 8/11/2009, 12:54 PM
Ray Park is the man, but I couldnt see myself wanting to watch an Iron Fist movie. As you guys said before, though, if they had Luke Cage and did a heroes for hire movie, that would be cool.
Shadowelfz - 8/11/2009, 12:55 PM
Is everyone missing the fact that he cant act for shit?
wards - 8/11/2009, 1:23 PM
first of all, i'm a ray park fan...for what he does. but you know, there IS a reason he always plays silent roles, or gets voiced over. i'm not so sure i'd want him to play iron fist, even if he can fight
CorndogBurglar - 8/11/2009, 1:42 PM
I dont see Ray Park as an actor. Let someone else play Danny Rand. Park can do the stunts and show his abs all he wants to. I guess I'd be okay with that.
longbowhunter - 8/11/2009, 1:56 PM
JOSH @ You give it a rest!

I know the truth lol! ; )

Im not the only one that see's FISH!
LEEE777 - 8/11/2009, 2:07 PM
this movie will never happen. i think the last time it was meant to come out was 2005 or something. i dont really care about ironfist anyway.
grif - 8/11/2009, 2:20 PM
THATS THE ROLE HE WAS MEANT TO PLAY..HE DESERVES STAR STATUS.
GUNSMITH - 8/11/2009, 2:51 PM
hey ror i was just askin thats not what i want but i liked rush hour so i was wonderin :) but again i think he could get the actin down with a few classes its just the accent that he really needs to work on
SabretoothTiger - 8/11/2009, 2:58 PM
@ Grif, if you don't care, why bother posting? kinda assinine ain't it?

Ironfist would be awesome. I always liked him growing up. Ray Park would be awesome. And I agree, some acting and voice classes, he'd have it down pat.
WulfComicFan - 8/11/2009, 3:20 PM
All martial arts and no talking. That's what he should stick to. Snake Eyes was perfect.
BmanHall - 8/11/2009, 3:45 PM
LEEE- I know the truth too and the very truth is that even Tatum is a better actor than Park. And i still say Tatum should be shot on sight! So unless he gets on with acting school, Park should never ever get a chance to massacre a comic book character that requires speech. That's right, he's not even good enough to play vision LOL :P

Oh... and Jensen Ackles IS Captain America!!!

Shaman - 8/11/2009, 3:49 PM
SHAMAN: wow man, that is your best yet!!! You should post that in FanFic ASAP! Awesome!!!!!!!! :)
joshw24 - 8/11/2009, 3:58 PM
mike c. hall for daredevil...he can act the loner role that murdock requires...plus he has the build and im sure he can learn to fight...
as for ray park...why not have him as danny rand?...and maybe derek luke as luke cage?...shin komiyada as shang chi??...id love a daredevil sequel with kingpin...give it a darker grimier edge...and cameo the heroes for hire i mentioned above...and now we got a heroes for hire spinoff
Anil Rickly - 8/11/2009, 4:57 PM
First of all I met him at WW Chi this past weekend and let me say what a class act. Second, he'll be appearing in the upcoming season of Heroes so let’s reserve judgment about his acting till then. Lastly not only was he the best part of GI JOE but he was the best part of the SW ep. 1.
bhfireman - 8/11/2009, 5:47 PM
He also had a speaking part in 'Ecks vs. Sever' alongside Antonio Banderas and Lucy Liu.
TheMyth - 8/11/2009, 5:56 PM
ray park is kick ass..he did so in fanboys too lol...he is a legend
Anil Rickly - 8/11/2009, 5:59 PM
Anil- Michael C. Hall would be a great Daredevil and he has the acting chops to do it as well.
ironknight27 - 8/11/2009, 6:06 PM
kudos IRONKNIGHT...i hope he duznt muck his name up in the gerard butler videogame movie lol
Anil Rickly - 8/11/2009, 8:10 PM
Park would do great in the role if he can master an American accent. He can show more depth. He is just never given the opportunity. It should have some comic moment to it. Park is actually oddly good at comedic timing and expression in normal conversation. That could carry over well if the material is properly written.
Pariah - 8/11/2009, 8:15 PM
Guys - the POINT that I, Ror & Shaman are trying to make is that Park CAN'T ACT! Mastering an American accent WILL NOT magically give him 'more depth'! 'DEPTH' is a SKILL that is developed and honed over time. It takes practice. Yes, there are those who have a natural ability, but even they still have to work at refining their skill. TRUST ME, Park DOES NOT HAVE THAT ABILITY (no matter how nice a guy he is in person)!
loganoneil - 8/11/2009, 8:57 PM
I don't think Park has the acting skills to play the role. How about Sean William Scott, he was quite good in Bulletproof Monk on the martial arts side and he does look like Iron Fist?!?
scribe - 8/11/2009, 9:59 PM
RAY PARK FOR IRON FIST..MARVEL GET THAT GUY.
GUNSMITH - 8/11/2009, 10:11 PM
I would have no issue with Park doing Iron Fist if I didn't care for it being nothing more than a B movie, but I do. Marvel is on a role with it's films and I expect no less for IF. He needs acting lessons, and if he admits to needing work on his North American accent, he should have done it long ago when he took up acting. Especially after getting the dub-treatment with Phantom Menace.
gtrman - 8/11/2009, 10:21 PM
I say give him a chance, he deserves it. He's a hardworker and who knows, he could turn out better than most people expect.
Inohaku - 8/11/2009, 10:44 PM
Ray Park is great pic for Iron fist. His action scenes for snake eyes were amazing. On top of that he has decent box office credentials such as X men, Star wars Ep 1. If Marvel gets some one such as Matt Damon who trained for matrail arts for The Bourne Identity he would runin the Movie because if he even trains for 2 years he would still not be good as Ray Park. I think Ray Park is the best pic for Iron Fist. Iron Fist is all about a hero who is amazing with Karate
shahrazstate - 8/11/2009, 11:13 PM
DAMN THE CRITICS GI JOE WAS FIRE!!!!!! SNAKE EYES WAS THE MOVIE IN MY OPINION. PARK WOULD BE A PERFECT IRON FIST THERE4 HE CAN SHOW OFF HIS WUSHU SKILLS
10THTIGER - 8/11/2009, 11:18 PM
@ shahrazstate

your right, it is about a hero who's amazing in martial arts. but danny rand also talks! i don't care how good ray park is in martial arts, if he can't be believable in the role, then what difference does it make?? and as far as snake eyes goes, how could you tell?? the scenes with him fighting were never more than a couple of seconds at a time. 3 punches, then it would change to a different scene. darth maul has easily been his best role as far as showing off his martial arts
CorndogBurglar - 8/11/2009, 11:30 PM
Sean William Scott would be perfect for Iron Fist/Danny Rand. And bring in Dwayne Johnson to play Luke Cage! The movie would work better if Danny and Luke were together and Sean and Dwayne have acted very well together before!

Ray Park is amazing but he just can't pull off an American accent.
DDD - 8/12/2009, 2:39 AM
perfect
AvengingAngel1022 - 8/12/2009, 3:09 AM
the Rock is my preferred choice for Luke Cage also DDD, I agree, together would be a great film
scribe - 8/12/2009, 3:54 AM
An Iron fist movie would be good especially based on the current series which for me ranks up there with Thor in terms of quality.

Ray Park = NO! He is the martial arts version of Doug Jones just coz he is good at such characters doesnt mean we want to see him as a lead.
breakUbatman - 8/12/2009, 6:43 AM
terry crews is luke cage. and parks is iron fists stunt double at best, he can't carry a film with his acting skills. with the right director and training (don't know his name offhand) the guy from prison break is danny rand...
theeambassador - 8/12/2009, 7:28 AM
DDD, you really want the rock for luke cage???????
CorndogBurglar - 8/12/2009, 7:31 AM
DDD- I normally agree with your casting choices however the last thing Marvel needs is to spoof their "heroes for hire" franchise. And that's exactly what Scott and The Rock would do to it if they were casted together. The Rock isn't a bad choice per say but i say have Jason Statham(or a better "actor", not fighter) as Iron Fist and Terry Crews as Luke Cage. It would make it more serious.

TheAmbassador- Great picks!!!

Oh and can people freakin stop saying how certain actors are passionate and good persons, IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING CAST AS A ROLE!!! You either fit the requirements or you don't!!! Park can't act worth a damn regardless of his personality! Saying that a mute character was his best acting gig really isn't helping his cause and neither is a part where he needed a freakin voice over!!! And someone that says that "Iron Fist is all about a hero who is amazing with KARATE" knows jack shit about the character and are talking straight out of their asses. It's the same as saying that Batman is all about a hero that lurks in the shadows. Research people, it's not rocket surgery!!!
Shaman - 8/12/2009, 7:35 AM
THE FACT IS ppl, RAY is a perfect choice for IRON FIST! ; )

Ackles is exactly like TATUM, he'd be a JOKE in the AVENGERS up against greats like RDJ and NORTON!

No brainer, ackles is a nasty miscast!

LEEE777 - 8/12/2009, 8:04 AM

Spot the ODD one out! ; D
LEEE777 - 8/12/2009, 8:10 AM
But Lewis would have fit right in would he??:)
Rorschach01 - 8/12/2009, 10:00 AM
@shaman- did you play the arkham demo yet. the 25th cant get here quick enough
theeambassador - 8/12/2009, 11:46 AM
Good one Roar!

LEEE- At least Ackles "ACTS" FOR A LIVING!!! Right now Park isn't perfect for ANY role involving speech.

theeambassador- No i haven't actually. And i thought it was coming out on the 28th???
Shaman - 8/12/2009, 11:51 AM
25th. mvc2 tomorrow.(ps3) justice for transformers 2 and gi joe
theeambassador - 8/12/2009, 5:13 PM
SWEET!!! :))
Shaman - 8/13/2009, 7:29 AM
i think Luke Goss would play a great Iron Fist

Luke Goss
