Amy Adams Comments On The Gal Gadot As WONDER WOMAN Backlash

In an interview with MTV, Adams reacts to the very vocal fan contingent that believe her soon-to-be Man Of Steel 2 co-star Gal Gadot is "too thin" to play Wonder Woman, by recalling her own experiences playing Lois Lane in the first movie.

Wonder Woman is generally drawn as a very tall, pretty muscular lady and that's just what some fans want to see in a movie. So when the fairly slender Gal Gadot was cast in the role, there were some predictable cries of "too thin/small/not an actual Amazonian warrior!" echoing around the web. While doing press for American Hustle, Amy Adams was asked about this. She admitted that she was "not familiar with [Gadot's] body shape," but that she could sympathize with being the subject of fan critiques. "I don't buy into that," she tells the site. "Not that I [don't] believe that it's happening, but I'm certainly not a classically drawn woman as they exist in comic books, so I had to embrace that I just had a baby, I still hadn't gotten my waist back. Lois is not about proportions, Lois is about her intellect and her savvy reporting skills and her empathy for Clark, and so I just didn't think about it." But anyway, Adams reassures that for this role, director Zack Snyder will indeed ensure Gadot packs on some muscle. "She is going to be yoked, man. He is going to make her a beast," she says. knocturnalzen10 - 12/19/2013, 1:17 PM
people forget what synder puts his actors thru for thes roles it's close to unhuman shit smh
gambgel - 12/19/2013, 1:23 PM
just the first two pics posted on the article shows that she isnt the best choice.

Look to the comics pic of Wonder Woman, and see those eyes, and then look at Gal.

she DOESNT have the eyes, neither the face of Diana.

There were many other actress with a much closer look.

Such a dissapointment
Aldinosaurio - 12/19/2013, 1:24 PM
ROFL at @Monkeyballs!

Snyder will make her hit the gym.
SnapperCarr - 12/19/2013, 1:25 PM
@l0rdleg0las I don't think she sucked... it was mainly the script.
Moohika - 12/19/2013, 1:25 PM
@gambel
the eyes? really? that's what you're worried about? I'm out.
scoobyjas - 12/19/2013, 1:28 PM
I still think Taylor Cole would've been a better option, but here's hoping that the folks at WB know what they're doing!!
tomasocelot - 12/19/2013, 1:29 PM
haha gusto only saw amelia the movie because they played it in the old folks home
JamesMan - 12/19/2013, 1:29 PM
Backlash? It was more bitching that she's too skinny cause you know, no actor ever buffs up for a role! Especially in a Zack Snyder production!

DeathstrokeTerminator - 12/19/2013, 1:31 PM
I'll wait and see. I don't want to be one of those idiots who bash someone (Heath Ledger) then eat their own words.
MrCBM56 - 12/19/2013, 1:32 PM
She's going to own it!
JamesMan - 12/19/2013, 1:37 PM
@Nasseal0101

I'm going to say this about Gal Gadot, the majority of us only know her from The Fast and The Furious films. That is not a suitable series to judge an actor's talents since they're working with horrible scripts. No one in that franchise tires to act because what they keep getting is shit you just can't work with. Henry Cavill was in the same boat as her except he had the tv series The Tudors to showcase some of his acting. Immortals and Cold Light of Day, he was bad in, not because of his acting skills but because the movies scripts and director's did NOT give a damn.
fortycals - 12/19/2013, 1:38 PM
Still meh on the casting, for the simple fact this was a chance for some of the thicker ladies to get some love. Anytime someone like Jennifer Lawrence see herself as obese by Hollywood standards something is wrong in the world.
SauraLilvera - 12/19/2013, 1:38 PM
Bad comparison. Lois Lane is not a 6 foot tall Amazon with muscles and curves to spare, so, yes, the physical aspect of the character matters a great deal.
DeathstrokeTerminator - 12/19/2013, 1:39 PM
@Nasseal0101
I didn't know you were a casting director...Have you seen her act in movies besides F&F, where there is not much acting required?
Dunejedi - 12/19/2013, 1:39 PM
Amy Adams is just. . ugh. She's the living equivalent of saltpeter. No boner can stand up to her.
ALmight - 12/19/2013, 1:40 PM
So I am supposed to be reassured by the opinion of the woman who's interpretation of Lois Lane was medicare at best? Is not a question of physicality, we all know she'll look the part, the question is whether or not she can act the part. Is one thing to play the hot chick in F&F, playing the greatest female superhero is quiet another.
Humperdink - 12/19/2013, 1:40 PM
"I don't buy into that," she tells the site. "Not that I [don't] believe that it's happening, but I'm certainly not a classically drawn woman as they exist in comic books, so I had to embrace that I just had a baby, I still hadn't gotten my waist back. Lois is not about proportions, Lois is about her intellect and her savvy reporting skills and her empathy for Clark, and so I just didn't think about it."

That's really not my argument against her, and I agree that it is a very superficial one that can easily be fixed with wardrobe and training.

My problem is that she CANNOT ACT.

Why are people ignoring her limited body of work and just focusing on her body?

From the neck up she LOOKS like Diana (a younger looking Diana), but she has no stage presence, no charisma, can't act, and has only appeared as eye-candy in everything she's been in. That's it. She's shown no range of emotional or anything. She just looks pretty.

Forget the physical aspect, she's just terrible as an actress and needs years more experience.

^ That's pretty bad.
It's very sad when Diesel out-performs you in a scene.

If she could act I'd be behind her 100% because she foots the bill in other regards if she eats a sandwich and works out.

TheWolverine08 - 12/19/2013, 1:41 PM
Why are people comparing here to Heath Ledger now? Heath was an extremely accomplished actor who PROVED that he could act. He isn't comparable to her.
Nomis - 12/19/2013, 1:42 PM
Amy can say what she want...but that chick is skinny!
facelaser - 12/19/2013, 1:43 PM
@Humperdink

Actually, the main thing I got out of that scene is how painfully bad of an actor Vin Diesel is.
TheWolverine08 - 12/19/2013, 1:44 PM
@beto That pic is just......... LMAO!
soforizo - 12/19/2013, 1:47 PM
I wouldn't have picked Amy, but I like her.

TelaVizion - 12/19/2013, 1:48 PM
I hope she keeps her accent. Can't wait to see her beauty on the big screen again.
ManDeth - 12/19/2013, 1:48 PM
I've only seen a few comments here and there from people that don't agree with the casting.
Where has there been any significant backlash??

ALmight - 12/19/2013, 1:49 PM
@Humperdink-Licking her lips is the only thing Gadot does well, in fact she does this multiple times during her F&F scenes and that one little scene in Knight and Day. Licking her lips, that's Gadot's acting range.
Owlman88 - 12/19/2013, 1:52 PM
Snyder is going to bring the guy who trained Butler and Fassbender in 300, so no worrying at all
DeathstrokeTerminator - 12/19/2013, 1:52 PM
Nobody is comparing her to Ledger, what I was saying is that when Ledger was cast, no matter how many times you told somebody that he was an amazing actor and would probably nail it, nobody was having any of it. In Gal's case, the number one thing you hear people complaining about is that she is too skinny, and no matter how many times you tell them she will bulk up they don't listen.
Nubase - 12/19/2013, 1:53 PM
Gia got the role 6 months ago and been training ever since, WB/DC only made it official early this month, they are drip feeding offical news.

All the pics we have of gia are from the fast furious movies with the latest fast 6 which came out early this year, so far there is no recent pic of her of what she looks like now but she will not look muscle bound, she will have a look of a female mma figher or a track and field star but wonder womens powers are not from her muscles, her power are given to her from birth from the greek gods so she does not have to look 100% like from the comics, her powers are just natural to her.
gambgel - 12/19/2013, 1:56 PM
honestly, I dont care about Gal's body on the movie.

I just DONT see Wonder Woman in her face.

She looks bland, and after seeing some of her videos/scenes, she also acts bland.

So TWO wrong factors. She just 'ISNT' Wonder Woman. A secondary greek warrior? yes, Wonder [frick]ing Woman? No way.
TheWolverine08 - 12/19/2013, 1:57 PM
Why you hating Omega? Mediocre is the shittttttt.
Arrowhead77 - 12/19/2013, 1:57 PM
Lol all the haters complaining about this crap. I have a feeling the bitching will stop (excepts from the Marvel morons) when we get a production pic of Gal as WW...
