Marvel Confirms: Paul Rudd Is ANT-MAN

Marvel has just confirmed that the Anchorman 2 actor has officially signed on to play the lead in Edgar Wright's big-screen take on the diminutive superhero. Have a read of the press release (which still doesn't confirm which incarnation he'll play) after the jump.

Although many of us felt that it was merely a technicality, last night's news only claimed that Rudd was in "early talks" for the Ant-Man role. Well, it seems those talks panned out as Marvel has officially announced that the actor will take the lead in Edgar Wright's movie. Below is the statement from Marvel, which doesn't make mention of which character Rudd will actually play (Hank Pym or Scott Lang etc) and is completely free of plot details, but there are some quotes from Kevin Feige.

Marvel’s “Ant-Man” has found its hero in Paul Rudd, who will star in the new film from director Edgar Wright hitting theaters July 31, 2015!

The casting of Rudd represents the actor that Marvel had long ago identified as its first choice to play Ant-Man, continuing the studio’s desire to cast actors that bring several dimensions to its onscreen heroes. The film’s plot is being kept under wraps.

“When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star," said Marvel's Kevin Feige. "We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we’d ever met with about doing the work, we knew we’d found the right guy. We couldn’t be more excited for our audiences to see what he’s going to do to bring Ant-Man to life.”

Wasn't expecting this until after the holidays. Looking forward to what Rudd and Wright offer!
SmellofDuty - 12/19/2013, 6:42 PM
I'm quite excited. I haven't seen an Edgar Wright movie I didn't enjoy. Dare I say Scott Pilgrim is my favorite of his?
SmellofDuty - 12/19/2013, 6:43 PM
Shaun of The Dead also could be. Hard choice. Or Hot Fuzz. You know what nevermind.
TheAbaryMan369 - 12/19/2013, 6:43 PM

TheSuperguy - 12/19/2013, 6:43 PM
Sounds good! Can't wait to see the action sequences; Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and the World's End all had terrific action scenes.

Yay! Rudd was a sneaky little shit at the Anchorman premiere!
TheSuperguy - 12/19/2013, 6:47 PM
@CaptainObvious Right!
Tyrus - 12/19/2013, 6:48 PM
Like I was saying yesterday though, Rudd might just portray Pym like another black-haired genius in the MCU...
TheSuperguy - 12/19/2013, 6:49 PM
So to rephrase my comment: All of Wright's films have had terrific action sequences.

Not my first choice, but I'm good with him. I find it weird that the casting of Rudd isn't getting, since complain about almost any character that gets cast, even the small characters.

MagicStingRay - 12/19/2013, 6:55 PM
Even though we know practically nothing about the film, I just feel that with Rudd starring and Wright at the helm, this movie will blend just enough humor, heart, and mind-blowing action (if the test footage is any indication)to create one of the more refreshing CBM movies yet.
DanMcNice - 12/19/2013, 6:56 PM
Good news!! Not my first choice, but I think he will do fine :D

I just hope that Rashida Jones don't get the wasp role...

WaltWoodpeckerWay - 12/19/2013, 7:00 PM
Please let him be Hank Pym, I don't care about Scott Lang. I want the original Ant-Man
DefcoN - 12/19/2013, 7:00 PM
Hell yeah! Closing this year with some excellent news! (unless they unveil another big surprise before 2014!)
JayJayCAW - 12/19/2013, 7:01 PM
interesting, not really a Marvel guy but I've enjoyed a few stories that involved Ant-Man, Rudd seems like someone who'd fit the character...maybe with a more dryer humor than Robert Downey Jr. and more of a serious/comical over tone.
MrCBM56 - 12/19/2013, 7:02 PM
[frick] YESSSSSS!!!!!!!
Indy - 12/19/2013, 7:02 PM
