LEGO MOVIE Duo Reportedly In Talks To Direct GHOSTBUSTERS 3

We recently found out that Ivan Reitman was stepping down as director for the long-in-development Ghostbusters 3 after the passing of his close friend Harold Ramis. Word was that he and Sony would launch an immediate search for a replacement in order to facilitate an early 2015 shoot, and now former Deadline scooper Nikke Finke reports that they may have found a pair of 'em; as The Lego Movie duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller are in talks to come aboard.

Everything Lord and Miller touches seems to turn to gold, and after the incredible success of The Lego Movie it's no surprise that Sony would like these guys to attempt a similar Box Office coup with the troubled Ghostbusters prequel. But this would also be great news for fans, as the pair have proven themselves top be endlessly inventive, and at times subversive film makers. If they were to sign on, I think this movie would start to look like a much better idea in many people's eyes.

"21 Jump Street" wasn't a bad movie. Wouldn't be upset if they directed.

What a about "22 Jump Street"?
MexicanChinman - 3/20/2014, 6:44 AM
Make it happen now!
MexicanChinman - 3/20/2014, 6:45 AM
@Pasto, it's coming out later this year.
jimoakley666 - 3/20/2014, 6:48 AM
They make good movies. And I'd love to see them direct. But the [frick]ing ship has sailed. No Bill Murray and after the passing of Harold Ramis mean no [frick]ing shits given.

I fuking LOVE Ghostbusters. I remember as if it was yesterday, the joy of playing with those toys as a kid. The figures and the pack / trap set. The excitement when the second was due to come out, collecting the stickers out of cereal boxes and having an Egon wheel-clacker on my bike.

I have so much love for those original two movies that I just don't want to see them shat on because Dan Ackroyd needs a hit and Sony want some money.
MrSotoMan - 3/20/2014, 6:49 AM
That......is genius if that happens!
MrCBM56 - 3/20/2014, 6:50 AM
I think the guys who wrote and directed Zombieland should helm this.
charlie2094 - 3/20/2014, 6:52 AM
Interesting choices, loved the Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street was pretty good too

Honestly, especially after the sad passing of Harold Ramis, not sure whether this is needed anymore, if it is a Ghostbusters 3. If it's like a semi-sequel/reboot it might be ok

Fingers crossed it turns out well, seems to keep popping up so I guess they're not giving up on it
DaVinci31 - 3/20/2014, 6:55 AM
noooooooooo
DaVinci31 - 3/20/2014, 6:55 AM
If it's the reboot then yes.
MrSotoMan - 3/20/2014, 6:55 AM
Let's face it. Ghostbusters is perfect for todays audience.

The idea alone if it was never made in the 80's, makes it seem like an action supernatural movie, either way the title speaks for itself how cool it does sound to see Ghostbusters in theaters.
DaVinci31 - 3/20/2014, 6:57 AM
If not, then no, It'd be wasted talent.
jimoakley666 - 3/20/2014, 6:59 AM
Just read that as well as Murray, Ernie Hudson doesn't want any involvement now that Ramis has died. So, one original Ghostbuster with a load of newbs? Who wants to see that?
MrSotoMan - 3/20/2014, 7:01 AM
Ernie Hudson last week said he was ready to put on the suit, but TMZ......seriously TMZ is reporting he doesn't want too?

Seems odd since he just said last week he is ready to put on the suit again.
ezio619 - 3/20/2014, 7:02 AM
i would love for this to happen, they directed and wrote the first cloudy with a chance of meatballs which i enjoyed, i really loved 21 jump street and the lego movie was great, cant wait for 22 jump street!!, please be true
Hellsing - 3/20/2014, 7:03 AM
Ok Now I'm interested, I've loved all the movies these guys have done so far so yeah I'm all for this
MrNiklander - 3/20/2014, 7:08 AM
I like their movies so far.But I just hope we wont get this
File:Terminator 3 poster.jpg
Before anyone jumps on me.Think this it took them 10 whole years to make this one same thing with GhostBusters 3 the original director wont direct(Cameron was a different story since he lost the rights after he divorced Linda Hamilton).Like I said great choices but the script is all that matters because GhostBusters 2 was kinda meh for me
MrSotoMan - 3/20/2014, 7:11 AM
@niklander- You also had a director, who really didn't bring nothing new to the table, other than the 2 scripts he came in with which was supposed to be a 2 parter.

In some ways, the 2 parter happened and ruined all I care about with Terminator
rockerdude22 - 3/20/2014, 7:21 AM
If this is true, that would be great! Lord and Miller are really talented guys!
fettastic - 3/20/2014, 7:23 AM
Sounds like a good idea....if Ghostbusters 3 was remotely a good [frick]ing idea.

As for The Lego Movie, I took my son to it a couple of weeks ago and although it started off strong with a creative spark, it just tripped and fell into trope and convention, boring us both.

A world made out of legos is great at first, but gets real [frick]ing old real [frick]ing fast. If it would have been a standard CGI film it would have bombed because it's so [frick]ing boring.

Oh look, Will Farrell is the bad guy......and he's doing Megamind....again. Right down to mispronouncing words. UGH!
MrSotoMan - 3/20/2014, 7:26 AM
Yes, cause boring movies are usually number 1 for 3 weeks in the country and a sequel greenlit the week after.
SuperSpiderMan5778 - 3/20/2014, 7:29 AM
Great now let's get tha' shootin'
version4 - 3/20/2014, 7:29 AM
This is the most exciting news i've heard in a while as it relates to thi movie. These two guys understand the tones of characters and how to translate it to make it interesting and CONTEMPORARY. Thats perfect for a 2 decade old franchise that needs a fresh take and re-introduction to this new generation of moviegoers. To be honest, that was the reason i had fears of Reitman being at the helm... i was afraid the status quo of the franchise would ultimately feel dated. This is awesome.
BlanketMan - 3/20/2014, 7:29 AM
Nikki "NOT A RECORD!" Finke?! Followers of The Avengers box-office run know what I'm talkin' 'bout!
maxleresistant - 3/20/2014, 7:35 AM
It would be a great choice
thewonderer - 3/20/2014, 7:36 AM
People who keep saying that this shouldn't be made should really do their research on how Ramis felt about the matter.

He WANTED Ghostbusters 3 to happen. I think doing it right, which would totally happen by Lord and Miller, would be the greatest tribute to his unfortunate passing.
CaptShipwreck - 3/20/2014, 7:39 AM
Best way to honor his memory is to continue the movies ... Even if he wasnt part of it he most def would have wanted more movies to happen
rockerdude22 - 3/20/2014, 7:44 AM
If anybody should take the helms for this movie, it should be Lord and Miller. Honestly, I can't think of a better pick then these two right now!
MrSotoMan - 3/20/2014, 7:45 AM
If anybody EVER followed Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters was originally going to have the Ghostbusters use wands instead of proton packs and have SWAT like outfits and was originally (the script) was over 400 pages, I think Reitman described it as looking like a phone book.

Meaning Akroyd when he wrote it, wanted it to be a franchise in some degree, plus he didn't want it to be a comedy at first

TELLS YOU THAT MUCH.
jlabatman - 3/20/2014, 7:46 AM
If this supposed reboot or remake or whatever they are wanting to do doesn't do the original justice, then don't even bother!
RetroFit - 3/20/2014, 8:23 AM
Ghostbusters is my 2nd favourite movie of all time (behind 'Empire Strikes Back') and I have NO desire to see this. It will be a shadow of the original and a pale imitation filled with very decidedly non-Ghostbusters characters and style of humour. I especially have no plans to see this if it has Jonah Hill in it. I HATE that guy! Bill Murray was right to walk away from this. He knows it's going to be terrible.
MrNiklander - 3/20/2014, 8:32 AM
@SotoJuiceMan well dont get me wrong I love Ghostbusters but I dont want to suck and when a movie is like 20-30 years stuck in develpment hell it doesn't give much hope
LMB10 - 3/20/2014, 8:35 AM
If anyone can do it, it's them.
MrSotoMan - 3/20/2014, 8:36 AM
@niklander- Spider-Man had the same amount of time of development hell.

And became a huge critical success and box office success.
BlackIceJoe - 3/20/2014, 9:03 AM
I think these guys can make an interesting Ghostbusters movie. It will be interesting to see what has happened in the GB world since the end of GB2. I see the next one as a reboot more so then a remake. It will take place in the same universe but the cast will be all new actors. If it does really well they might even make a GB4 in the future.
maninfinesuit - 3/20/2014, 9:18 AM
Eh. These guys are clearly talented, but I'd rather not see the same old actors Hollywood comedies have been oversaturated with for the past few years as Ghostbusters. Why they're even fast tracking this after the death of Ramis is beyond me, when if anything that should be a signal to put it to rest.
McGee - 3/20/2014, 10:19 AM
They just won't let this go, will they? Like herpes.
Dandy - 3/20/2014, 11:28 AM
You know...I was wanting this movie to die.....but with these two on board as directors...BRING IT ON!!!!! I love these two. Funniest directors working today.
AshleyJWilliams - 3/20/2014, 11:48 AM
There has already been a Ghostbusters 3, it was the game... I could care less about this now that Ramis is gone. Just let the franchise stay dead. It had two solid films it doesn't need a third one mucking up the others.
