GAME OF THRONES: So Exactly How Big Will Dany's Dragons Get?

George R.R. Martin has posted an excerpt from his latest book, The World of Ice and Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and the World of Game of Thrones, along with an illustration of a fully grown dragon. If you think Daenerys Targaryen's babies are big now, ummmm...

Along with an excerpt from his new book, which will serve as an encyclopedia covering the events and historical figures that shaped the Seven Kingdoms and beyond, Martin posted the above illustration of Dany's ancestor Aegon Targaryen riding his dragon Balerion the Black Dread into battle. As you can see, he's fracking huge! We glimpsed a full-size dragon skull in the first season of Game Of Thrones but I dob't think that did their enormity justice. Will we see Dany atop one of her three fully-grown dragons at some point in the show? I'd say it's a safe bet. You can read the excerpt at the link below.

Looks kind of shit xD Something that size wouldn't be useful at all, you'd have nowhere to store it and the altitude/speed from riding it would kill you. Let alone it would be completely uncontrollable.

first post made my day
InfiniteMonkey - 4/19/2014, 5:55 AM
What do they feed these things? Cows and horses?

Jaime skull[frick]s Brienne
Scarilian - 4/19/2014, 5:57 AM
@InfiniteMonkey

Considering the size... you'd have to feed it an entire field of cows. It makes no sense considering the world they established.

Dragons never get 'fully grown'.

If allowed free roam outside and ample food, they have endless growth potential.

The dragons of Aegon the Conqueror's time, like Balerion who lived to be a couple hundred years old, are the biggest dragons we know of at this point.
ManofSteel23 - 4/19/2014, 5:58 AM
I do not see how they can make the dragons that big and do them justice, specially if game of thrones ends up in to a big (lord of the rings minis tirith) battle, they would surely need a film budget
ckal - 4/19/2014, 6:00 AM
Conversely, if dragons are locked up and chained, their growth is stinted and potential lessened. -hint hint at future events-

This is information directly from characters in the books.

Yes in the past, depending on the size of the dragon, they would typically feed them goats and sheep. Dragons often hunted on their own though, which means they would feed on other larger animals as well.
