Possible explanation of how Thor gets to earth in Avengers?

Come see what I think may be the answer!

Look at that poster again... above Thor is that a wormhole he's creating?

No, it can't be a tornado as it doesn't really look like the tornado he created in Thor.

What do I think? Well, I think that Thor hears that Loki is on Earth and is afraid he'll cause damage on there, so he might have someone make his hammer be able to create wormholes to other dimensions.

This would make sense of how he gets to earth as it would be silly to have Nick Fury use the cosmic cube to open a wormhole to Asgard and tell Thor, "Awesome place to hang your helmet, by the way my name is Nick Fury director of Shield, and I'd like to talk to you about the Avenger Initiative."

(By the way this is just to be funny... sorry I can't think of another way he could get to Earth but I would be glad to hear any ideas.)

At any rate this is one of the things I'm most curious about in Avengers. What do you guys think?

The Avengers smash into theaters May 4 2012!

@Destoyer14 btw do you have a sec to get on twitter? i have an idea of how it might work out and i'd like to talk to someone about it...
Hellsing - 6/15/2011, 2:41 PM
you clearly haven't seen the storyboards for cap
ALmighty1080 - 6/15/2011, 3:44 PM
he'll just rebuild the magically gay rainbow road.
BIGBMH - 6/15/2011, 7:02 PM
good eye! didn't notice that before. it could also be part of loki's plot. maybe something about using the cosmic cube and breaking down the barriers between realms.
ftf530 - 6/15/2011, 8:06 PM
According to the cap storyboard, I think the cube is going to be misused by someone halfway through Avengers( when Thor has been confirmed to return to earth) and through the resulting mayhem or whatever accident the misuser causes, thor gets back to earth(whether he wants to or not).

ignore the runon sentence.

I think in the comics Thors hammer has the power to create portals between worlds. So they may go with that route - but they never hinted at it in the films.

Other options include a repaired bifrost bridge. Not sure how long that would take. Also dramatically it would be a bit lame if it was just 'fixed' in time for the avengers.

My personal fave option is that bifrost bridge is still destroyed. This means not only can asgardians not get to midgard but Jotenheim as well. Loki gets the cosmic cube or some other powerful device (through his travels in space before he arrives on earth) and uses it to start an invasion for Frost Giants. He is, afterall, their new king - and Asgard didn't want him as theirs! He controls all transportation to the nine worlds.

The Avengers must assemble to defeat the army of giants and loki summons Thor to destroy him with the rest of earth. Maybe Ymir will get a mention?

or Thor could fly through space to Earth since Asgard is similar to a planet...
Sturmpionier - 6/16/2011, 6:27 AM
I didn't notice the wormhole before, good catch.

However, I figured that Heimdall would notice Loki on Earth and Thor would just spin his hammer to open a portal since Midgard was threatened. I think the explanation could be as simple as since Mjolnir smashed Bifrost, it absorbed its powers. Also it would have the nice bonus of being a great adaptation of Thor's powers from the comics.
Peteyparker - 6/16/2011, 6:28 AM
@Orphix yea i think so too.......well at least on Avengers:EMH he could transport back and forth before Loki locked him out.
CorndogBurglar - 6/16/2011, 7:28 AM
I don't understand what the big mystery is. In Thor, Loki straight up said there are multiple ways to travel between worlds.
EarOne - 6/16/2011, 7:31 AM
i think Heimdal could have the bridge be fixed by then. but, yeah...mjolnir is supposed to have that power of transporting people or things through different places. it's like a portable gateway thing that Heimdal is guarding.

i honestly feel like you can't do a movie Thor without Jane Foster. What's he gonna do? get to earth and be like "where's jane foster? i need some mighty lovin'" - and nick fury is gonna go "She's right over there but first can you help us with this whole Loki/Alien Invasion problem?"

"AYE!"
BigCrupZilla - 6/16/2011, 2:39 PM
you guys are all reading into this way too much. And like @hellsing said, you clearly didnt see the cap story boards. Don't wanna spoil it for you
superotherside - 6/16/2011, 2:43 PM
Thanks for all the comments guys!

@Sturmpionier i think i liked your idea best! ;)

all i wondered is that thor may get in some way have his hammer be able to open wormholes, so it could be any way you like, or it could be that the worm hole is just showing it to be a plot point in avengers and they could use the cosmic cube or maybe it's just stupid clouds and i'm reading too much into it lol :P

btw i did read the cap storyboards and it did show the dimensions but that doesn't mean that thor can't have his hammer make wormholes either...
molee - 6/16/2011, 8:54 PM
ahem why isn't hulk wearing anything?is he going to be naked in the entire movie? O_O
MrCape - 6/17/2011, 9:07 AM
asgard is a planet in MCU...
have u watched the movie?
Minato - 6/17/2011, 12:19 PM
Ive watched the movie like 50 times (Ihave it on my computer). The way it was explained in the movie the 9 realms are not planets. If you listen closely to their conversation Thor explains that you can see the tree of life that connects all the realms thru the hubble telescope not the realms themselves. Thor is not an alien he is an extrademensional being.
ThePuzzler - 6/21/2011, 2:30 PM
They can easily say that Loki has the cube because of the after credit scene in Thor

Fury told him where it is, how to use it and how to get it

He'll take it and drag thor to Earth with it, and Thors gonna be pissed!
Moonwalker1991 - 6/28/2011, 10:52 AM
Interesting theory. As for Nick Fury having the Cosmic Cube to get to Asgard. No.
Loki has it and he will return in the Avengers. In the ultimate universe i believe, Thor can use his hammer to transport himself to and from earth. I don't think he has "developed" that ability yet. Maybe in a potential sequel. If I were him I never would have left Jane.
opencurtain - 7/4/2011, 9:52 AM
Do they realize that the Hulk is just behind them ready to smash them all? Thor V the Hulk is going to be sweet .
KingNTheKong - 8/4/2011, 5:00 AM
don't you remember in Thor Loki said to Heimdall there were secret passage ways to get to earth that he didn't need because he was now king.
marveljohnson89 - 10/25/2011, 10:58 PM
I have a great idea for what will happen.

1. Odin's cube will be the source for which Thor will be able to return to earth. In captain America Howard stark found the cube in the ocean and I can imagine since then has studied its power and possible created the case which Nick Fury presented at the end of Thor.

I also think Howard Stark derived the element from Odin's cube in which Tony Stark recreated to produce his new power source for his suite in Iron Man 2.
hondaciviccoupe10 - 4/22/2012, 7:05 PM
In the comics, since the 60's, by spinning Mjölnir, Thor can open portals to other worlds and dimensions. He doesn't need Bifrost to travel. Maybe he didn't realize this in the Thor movie but discovered this ability in the beginning of the Avengers.
