Nestor Carbonell To Play Khan In Star Trek Sequel?

Prepare for the Wrath of Khan... again!
There are rumors going around that Khan will be in the sequel to Star Trek, and the front runner for Khan is Nestor Carbonell. Nestor Carbonell does have a striking resemblance to original Khan, Ricardo Montalban. He might also have the acting chops to give credence to the role. Carbonell is probably best known for playing Richard in Lost(Also JJ Abrams). He also played Batmanuel in The Tick, and the Mayor in The Dark Knight.

Again this is just a rumor, and up to this point we are not even sure if Khan will be feature in the next sequel.

Love the new Star Trek, and hope they bring on a great follow-up.

KAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THEHAWK - 11/17/2009, 10:57 PM
I would love for Kahn to be in the next one. The "Space Seed" episode of Star Trek was the first Star Trek episode that I had ever seen.
nursevil - 11/17/2009, 11:46 PM
Like many others I have to admit to experiencing a rush when watching Abrams' fresh take on the Trek franchise. Plot-wise, there was enough for three movies, four spin-off novels and a TV pilot. But now what? More of the same? More cowboys and injuns in outer space? More nods to Star Wars? Of course, if you pause and think seriously about things, it becomes apparent there's no way in hell an outfit like the Federation would allow a bunch of 20-year-olds to single-handedly undertake diplomatic, interstellar chores. There needs to be a sage-like figure on board. And wouldn't it be amazing to see a Trek film where, for once, someone doesn't collect it on the jaw? Say what you will about the 1979 feature, but in its failure it did attempt to show that brains and compassion will always win out over brawn and bravado. All that changed with the militaristic re-introduction of Khan. And now, based on the current crop of rumours, we're back to that scenario again? Hey, J.J., there's a cool old dude out there by the name of Harlan Ellison. Not only did he write the best-ever episode of the original TV series, but he also had a grand concept for the first motion picture that was never used. Put down the knuckle-dusters and phasers for a moment and pay the grand old geezer a visit. He may be the sage your beloved Enterprise needs if it is to avoid the wrath of, well, you know...the critics. Anyways, I just hope that the sequel will be wonderful even without using any fast cash loans.
SamsonA - 11/18/2009, 2:02 AM
Excellent casting if its real. The dude is great imo.
RorMachine - 11/18/2009, 2:42 AM
He really should have won an Emmy for his portrayal of batmanuel. he he. God I love The Tick. "SPOOOOOOOOOON!"

As for Khan, yes, that is some good casting right there.

supermarioworldE - 11/18/2009, 3:10 AM
Remember when Ricardo used to do the commercials for Chrysler Cordoba ?

Useless Fact: There is no such thing as Corinthian
Leather.
SkunkApe1 - 11/18/2009, 3:13 AM
I hadnt really seen much of Star Trek before the movie (which was awesome but I still dont really want to watch the TV series) but any news about a sequel is great - this guy also happens to be an excellent actor so I hope this is true! :)
JoshW - 11/18/2009, 3:17 AM
It's funny, when the Khan rumors first began, Nestor was the first person to pop into my head as being perfect for the character. But that being said, this can't be anything more than a rumor -- there isn't even a script yet, and they simply wouldn't be talking about casting at this stage of things. Just an opinion.
EdGross - 11/18/2009, 3:24 AM
1) Khan as the next Trek baddie would be interesting. You know what I would LOVE to see happen? Instead of Khan and Kirk developing into mortal enemies...they become life long friends through an arduous and peril filled trial of some sort with only each other to make it out alive. As they undertake the trial together they learn about and come to respect one another. Eventually they would forge a lasting peace for the the eugenics and natural born humans and establish this as a truly different Trek universe with twists and turns for years to come. THAT would be SICK Trek. Am I crazy?

2) All this time I thought Corinthian leather was cheap artificial leather produced in Newark. I had no idea it was imaginary. You learn something new every day! You taught me something cool, Skunks!
Pariah - 11/18/2009, 3:29 AM
its disappointing that they're using Kahn again. first of all, i doubt VERY seriously it will be as good as the first Wrath of Kahn. i thought JJ wanted to explore something new. i don't want jus remakes, and rehashes of old stories. i know its a different timeline now, but really, give us something we haven't see before
CorndogBurglar - 11/18/2009, 4:56 AM
I'd like Khan to make an appearence but as only minor role, Klingons all the way!

Or maybe just a Mudd story! ;P
TheAnswer - 11/18/2009, 5:04 AM
WE NEED KLINGON WAREFARE...but he's a fine pick for KAHHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
Anil Rickly - 11/18/2009, 5:08 AM
One thing I know for sure, J.J. Abrams hasn't done a sequel to any of his awesome films. Until I see a trailer or behind the scenes shots, they ain't making a sequel.
Jimdlux - 11/18/2009, 6:17 AM
Is it just me but I would love STar Trek to go in other NEW directions. Don't get me wrong having Kahn on screen again is cool but we have been there and done that. Come up with new creatures and new adventures... AM I the only one that thinks like this??
DeathWalker - 11/18/2009, 6:33 AM
I like the direction JJ has gone with Star Trek, BUT I don't particularly dig the whole concept of re-introducing Khan. I realize it's a different timeline/universe and such, But I just feel that Khan as a whole should be left alone. Let Ricardo Monteblan's interpretation of the character BE the only one that we think of when we hear "Khan". I don't want there to be a battle 10 years from now of "Which one's better? Ricardo or *enter name here*" We're already going to have to listen to that until the end of time with Chris Pine & Co. (Which quite frankly, Chris Pine played william shatner BETTER than william shatner. There. I said it.)

However, if it MUST be done, then at least let Khan's role in the new film be at a minimum.. Let's Go explore The Klingons in JJ's Universe, And why not explore some of the fantastic characters who should have been in the films already.. I am 150,000% behind bringing in Harry Mudd or Trelaine.. Or hell, Why not focus on an Andorian conflict..

Sean Twisted - 11/18/2009, 6:38 AM
Lets see the Gorns!!!!!!!!!
DeathWalker - 11/18/2009, 6:45 AM
Trelane is an awesome character. "Q Squared" is still one of my favorite books. THAT book (Q Squared) would make a truly interesting film, but as it is set in the original unaltered timeline that is a pipe dream I fear.

Still if they go for Khan it COULD be interesting. The Klingons are going to be REALLY hard to properly reimagine and not completely mess them up. Still would like to see that, but I have grievous fear that it will end up a travesty.
Pariah - 11/18/2009, 6:50 AM
OMG....yes...Nestor need to be in every movie.
MsKyle08 - 11/18/2009, 7:16 AM
Why do this? Isn't the whole point of Star Trek to move FORWARD? To boldly explore new worlds? Can't these people come up with anything remotely original? All I've heard from Abrams' apologists is that the entire point of this "new" Trek is to bring a "fresh new take" to Trek's iconic characters. What's "fresh" about remaking a movie that's already been done? Trek has a whole starship full of great characters. You could fill a library with the novels and the comics that have been written with different adventures for them. There are great new stories to tell with these wonderful characters, and new ways to build on the franchise. Why not create a whole new legacy for them? Bring the fresh perspective to them that this series of films is supposed to deliver!

And if there's no such thing as Corinthian leather, just what kind of seatcovering WAS in those Cordobas?
comicb00kguy - 11/18/2009, 7:33 AM
lol eye liner boy to play Kahn? cool deal

He's great on Lost.
DarthMulder - 11/18/2009, 7:46 AM

He does look like he wears eyeliner. It's just dreamy thick eyelashes though.

I like Khan. Everyone likes Khan. Let's have some Khan. I'm sure JJ will deliver something new and great with Khan. We will like it. This, I command!

DeathWalker - 11/18/2009, 8:09 AM
I read somewhere that Nestor's eyes are lined with Corinthian Leather.

He would make a good Khan. But I'm hoping they do a Klingon story instead. If ST wants to reintroduce characters bring back Kor or Kang.
stopdropandroll - 11/18/2009, 8:12 AM
Anyone with me that they should show the Gorns??? How cool would that be.
DeathWalker - 11/18/2009, 8:21 AM
That would be interesting to see. He's got some skills

AlexDeLarge666 - 11/18/2009, 8:59 AM
I'm up for a remake of sorts. Trekkies like any other fan have the tendency to "photoshop" if you will, old favorites making them seem like the sh*t. I watched the Wrath of Kahn a couple of years ago and it didn't live up to the hype. I noticed that I've been guilty of doing the same, when I went to rewatch old Borg episodes, I noticed my memory of them betrayed me.

Anyways, Abrams' take on Star Trek in my opinion was better than anything previously seen in the Trek universe.

soforizo - 11/18/2009, 9:47 AM
douche
Keven - 11/18/2009, 10:53 AM
Trying to recreate Wrath of Khan would be the biggest mistake in the long, sad history of moviemaking mistakes. They need to stick to something new and original.
slimybug - 11/18/2009, 10:53 AM
I ACTUALLY LOVE THE IDEA OF THIS GUY BEING KHAN,NO ACCENT THOUGH..DID THEY EVER EXPLAIN WHO OR WHAT HE WAS ON LOST? HE NEVER AGED..WHAT IS HE IS HE AN ALIEN OR DEMON OR THE DEVIL...WHAT GIVES?
GUNSMITH - 11/18/2009, 11:23 AM
being dead to MsKyle sucks :(

@ Gunsmith: lol you haven't figured it out yet?
Jacob, and through Jacob the island, grants certain individuals special powers. To what end, only Jacob and the man in black (who is now disguised as John Locke) knew. They are the only ones that truly do understand what is going on or how it all works, and they are both a part of it.
Alpert is a human being, just like Harper who can teleport, and Ethan who was super strong. But Jacob and/or the Island have granted him extreme longevity because he performs a function. He does something that Jacob desires. Jacob and the man in black seem to be able to use the island's power to wage this war between them, and they each have their secret weapons and aces in the hole. AND they both seem to be able to see the future and to plan for that future way ahead of time. And their power is not bound by the island.... it's actually global in reach. Make sense? lol
DarthMulder - 11/18/2009, 11:51 AM
@ Keven: Whose a douche? Access? Nestor Carbonell? Kahn?
DarthMulder - 11/18/2009, 11:53 AM
I doubt it would be a remake of Wrath of Khan, it would more likely be a remake of the tv episode, Space Seed.
stopdropandroll - 11/18/2009, 12:01 PM
lol...i can bring you back to live Darth.
MsKyle08 - 11/18/2009, 12:56 PM
I am going to admit something here. I bought Star Trek yesterday, and watched it three times. After bashing even the idea of remaking ST, I was the biggest dick in the world toward that movie, and I was Blown away. What a great job they did, now that Abrams just got a free blowjob from me I'm going to go postal here about the sequel. Leave Khan the f**k out of ANY sequels, write some new shit mother f**kers! You're in space, new worlds, races, an unlimited canvas to paint on, not shit on by rehashing past story lines. Follow the idea for remaking the f**king movie to begin with, to boldly go in a new direction with a new cast. What's so hard about following the new format??????
ASSASSIN666 - 11/18/2009, 1:05 PM
Nestor "Batmanuel" Carbonell! F*** Yeah! Best lines from The Tick:
- "I've still got your panties!"
- "What's that smell? Ah yes, soccer mommy!"
- "Apocalypse Cow is 50 ft tall and shoots fire from her teets."

Oh yeah and he kicks ass on Lost too. Cheers

RockNRollCC - 11/18/2009, 5:48 PM
It would be good casting but more than likely this casting rumor is fake. Havn't you guys noticed that half of the casting rumors turn out to be fake:
1. The Black cat casting rumor(Rachel McAdams)
2. Johnney Depp as the Riddler
3. Phillip Seymor Hoffman as the Penguin
4. That guy who was rumored to play Sinestro
5. Megan Fox as Wonder Woman and Catwoman
6. Stephen Colbert as the Riddler
7. John Cena as Captain America
8. Will Smith as Captain America
9. Rolan Kickinger as Conan
10. Bradley Couper as the Green Lantern
11. Megan Fox as Buffy the Vampire slayer
12. Katie Holmes as Wonder Woman
and tons more. Don't believe anything until the director or the actor confirmes their role. More than likely this actor will be asked by a reporter and will respond "I never heard of that till today". Rumor closed and we're once again disappointed. Though keep the spirits up, but just be ready for a possible dissapointment
Diamond1995 - 11/18/2009, 7:52 PM
Darth... interesting Lost theories. The only thing is, Im not actually sure that Ethan was supposed to be super strong. He was certainly very strong, and a great fighter, but I think all of the "hostiles" are pretty handy. I think Richard has been a guardian of Jacob for a very long time and he knows a lot more than we think he does. When Illana( who I think is jacobs daughter) asks him in the season 5 finale.."What lies in the shadow of the statue"...Richard replies in Spanish.."The one who will save us all"..I think he either means Jacob, or The Black Smoke(Esau/the man in black)
RorMachine - 11/18/2009, 7:56 PM
HOLY CROW...! Is the "man in black's" name "Esau"?? hold up... I know there's a bible here somewhere lol

On the Ethan thing.. remember him picking up Charlie with one hand? I know Charlie is a little fella but Ethan didn't look like any power lifter either. Someone with Ethan's build should absolutely NOT be able to do that.
And he beat down Jack. And he took a horrendous beating from Jack and got right back up. It didn't dawn on me that his strength level was unnaturally high either until Sawyer says "Will someone tell me who or WHAT this son of a bitch is?" I think Sawyer was trying to confirm that Ethan did indeed seem to have a lot more physical power than a slender fellow like himself should have.

If Richard knows so much how come he never speaks up?
He's had a few good times to spill the beans. Does he really guard Jacob? If so he's not doing a very good job now is he? lol
Oi, Ror... do you think Jacob is truly dead?? I have my doubts.

Yeah somehow I doubt that "the one who will save us all" refers to 'the man in black". The man in black and the smoke monster seem to have one single modus operandi and that is keeping people OFF the island, and keeping the island's secrets a secret. I know that it's clear at this point that the man in black and the smoke monster are eithe rone in the same or the monster does the man in black's bidding. It also seems evident that the rules in this eternal struggle are like this. Jacob and the man in Black can't hurt each other directly but they can do so through intermediaries. Like the now deceased Locke.
DarthMulder - 11/18/2009, 8:37 PM
OOOOOOO, LOST talk!
can i jump in here @darth + @rorschach? i frieken luv lost!
RockNRollCC - 11/19/2009, 2:58 PM
Of course! Fire away

Well see, I think Richard allowed himself to be replaced as leader by Ben..or was told to allow it..by Jacob! Whatever this sequence of events is thats unfolding, its happened before in some way(like you said, Jacob and Esau(guessed name!) have been playing this game for a very long time) add to that the time travel and I think its a safe bet that quite a few characters know whats coming.

I think Jacob is dead, but whatever he is(demon, god, angel) Im sure we haven't seen the last of him.

Im so pissed off that Locke is really dead! He's my fave character..he better come back to life for real and kick that imposters ass!
RorMachine - 11/19/2009, 4:09 PM
ok @rorschach. ive got a theory
(after reading however, please help point out holes):

The "war" to which everyone is referring is not between the Others and Dharma, but between the controlling spirits of the island, namely Jacob and the Monster. Jacob was once the god or ruler of the island but something happened, maybe he was killed, but his spirit lived on. He may have been killed by the Monster or whatever spawned the Monster, and this is why he stays in the cabin surrounded by the ash circle. The ash circle is like the sonar fence; it keeps the Monster out. Jacob has been reduced to nothing but a spirit, without a physical manifestation, and is holed up in the cabin protecting himself from the Monster. He finally gets a "host" in the form of the body of Christian Shephard, which he inhabits as his representative on the island, using him to interact with people (all the way from waking Jack up in the first Mobisode to meeting with Sun in the Othersville cabin in 2007).
The Monster has also found its host too: Locke. The Monster took hold of Locke's body when it arrived on the island, which is why Richard thought something was different about Locke and why he's been acting so strangely. The Monster needs a host body to bypass the ash circle and actually get to Jacob. Jacob needs a host body to leave the ash circle to interact with the people on the island without getting himself killed by the monster. This also explains, and you can see where I'm going with this, why Locke now wants to "kill Jacob". Locke has established he has no other intentions (not to help Sun, not to find the other Losties) but only to kill Jacob. And he takes everyone with him to witness his killing of Jacob so that afterwards, they will have no choice but to obey him.
This also explains why "Dead is dead" - a dead person reanimated, as Locke and Christian are, is still dead because they are not the same people, they've been inhabited as hosts. It also explains why the Monster doesn't come when Ben summons it (Locke is around) and why Locke knows where it is (at the Temple) and why Locke disappears when the Monster appears (Ben falls down to the basement, Locke disappears, then reappears after the Monster goes back in the vents).
I was trying to come up with and anticipate counter-evidence to this theory, and one of the issues I determined was why would the Monster work with the Others and be summoned by Ben if they purport to be working "for" Jacob. Perhaps it is precisely because the Others are not working for Jacob but are working for the Monster. This is why they are so caught off guard and apprehensive about actually going to see Jacob each time Locke asks them to take him. It also explains why when Ben takes Locke to him, Ben cannot see him while Locke can both see and hear him ("Help me" - meaning "help save me from this man and his people"). It also explains why Ben then found it necessary to kill Locke right after taking him to Jacob. It also explains why in the most recent episode, after Locke says he's taking everyone to see Jacob, Richard tells Ben "Locke could be a problem".
I think that Jacob and the Monster can only take over bodies of people who were dead before they came to the island. Yemi was also taken over by the Monster, but the Monster found it could not use Yemi to get to Jacob because Jacob's cabin's location shifts, as we've already seen happen, and the Monster needed to inhabit someone who could find a way to get to the cabin. Locke was perfect because Locke could get Ben and Richard to lead him to the cabin.
I also think that Richard's body has been taken over as well. This is why he is ageless, as Christian and Locke now are as well. Richard could have been dead on the Black Rock when it crashed then his body was taken over. Or it could have been even earlier. By which spirit? I don't know, haven't quite figured that out yet. Possibly by Jacob, which is why he is now wary of Locke.

IDK, i may be wrong about this, but what do u guys think?
RockNRollCC - 11/19/2009, 4:48 PM
I think your theories are great! Very well thought out..and I agree with the Jacob/Monster relationship. The taking over of the corpses idea is also very interesting..the only thing is, Esau(Monster..whatever!) didn't reanimate Locke's corpse..because we see his body being dumped from the crate at the end of season 5, ..But I do think Christian's body was taken over by Jacob..OR by Esau. Its difficult to know which of these entities is really the "bad" one..it would seem like Esau, Black cloths, black smoke..but nothing is ever that straight forward with Lost, and there was something sinister in Jacobs expression when he said "What about you" to Ben. Whatever the reason Esau was able to pose as Locke, it had to be a new development, because he "found a loophole" to do it.
RorMachine - 11/19/2009, 6:03 PM
Torched, I don't see why we would think of Jacob as being a "god". Who knows what he is... He could be an alien. He could be a ghost who seems powerful because he can use the energy of the island.

Also you seem to be saying that Jacob impersonates people just like the smoke monster or the man in black does.
he doesn't.
The horse, the bird, Christian Shepard, Ekko's bro, Hurley's imaginary pal from the hospital... these were all perpetrated by smokey and/ or the man in black for the purpose of either [frick]ing with the islanders, killing them, or driving them away.
And i guarantee that it was HE that cursed the island by making it so that babies can't be born on the island.

Remember that the main split between them is that Jacob wants people around to enjoy the island and appreciate it's power. "Esau" does NOT want anyone there. He hates people and wants everyone OFF.

And here's another thing that is wrong. It was not Jacob that was being held in by the ring of ash. It was the man in black. It was he that spoke to Locke and asked him to "help me". And he got his help alright, even if it only looks like him. Remember that the man in black was only able to use Locke's likeness to kill Jacob AFTER the ash circle was broken. That small event allowed the man in black to get out, and be more active.

You seem to be forgetting that Ben Linus' bullshit meter is always red lining. He admitted that when he took Locke to the cabin he was only pretending to see Jacob because he was embarrassed that he never really had. And he was just as amazed as lock was when some force made stuff move and spoke to him. But it wasn't jacob speaking, it was the man in black.

And BTW.. if Jacob has no physical manifestation, then what was it that burned up in that fire pit when Locke carved him up and kicked him in it? Oh no.. Jacob had one. He doesn't body steal like the man in black does. His body was probably only be seen at night in the base of the statue weaving on his ancient loom... and only when he chose to be.

DarthMulder - 11/19/2009, 6:35 PM
@darth, yeah it seems sum of the stuff i wasnt so clear about. but the babies not being born i just had another thought. the giant statue, Taweret who holds an ankh (symbolizes life) in each hand, was the Egyptian goddess of birth, rebirth and the northern sky. i figured this had to be the cause of which babies were born on the island. UNTIL...

to the 50's. a US hydrogen bomb "jughead" has cracked and is being held dangling from a wooden firing tower. When a time-traveling Daniel Faraday arrived, he noticed that one of the Others had radiation burns and concluded that the casing of the bomb had cracked. He convinced Richard to allow him to deactivate the bomb, and he was allowed to inspect Jughead under the supervision of his unknowing mother, Eloise Hawking. Upon doing so, he confirmed his suspicion that the casing was cracked and frantically instructed her to patch the hole with lead and then bury the bomb in concrete. where are they gonna make concrete from?...The giant statue!! thus doing so, th statue is demolished. th last known babies born on th island are Faraday, Ethan (this might tie in with your jacob and strength thing Darth), (and Aaron.) th demolishing of th statue put pregnant mother's at stake. Why? IDK, i haven't gotten that far yet, mabye it was Jacob because he got pissed that his statue house got recked by the others, so HE cursed the island so no babies can be born :) if u have anything to add to that Darth or Rorschach, feel free. i still cant wait for season 6! so much should be answered!

oh and 1 more thing to add. since MIB is th black smoke monster, does that make Jacob white smoke monster? (refrence to th altered ending of S5 finale)

RockNRollCC - 11/19/2009, 7:44 PM
ummm why do you think that the man in black and the smoke monster are one in the same? There is no reason to think that at all. It might be true, but I doubt it because smokey was out doing it's thing way before we ever saw or heard of the man in black. Whole seasons before. As I said before, it's clear that they are on the same side, but there truly is no evidence that they are the same being. I have never heard of the white smoke monster.

Why would even a bunch of crazies like The Others destroy an amazing ancient statue just for the sake of concrete? Especially one that they hold sacred! Who knows where they got the concrete, but I bet that statue fell thousands of years before any of the clowns in question got there, and thusly they had no part in it.

I think your right about one thing though... It really probably is that being born on the island is what grants the people powers. But the powers are so diverse and specific. It SEEMS like it's by design somehow but maybe it isn't.

I can't wait for the next season too. :)
