Disney Release Their First STAR WARS Themed Poster Since Lucasfilm Acquisition

Whether you think Disney holding the Star Wars reigns is a good or a bad thing, the above poster really hammers it home. It's to promote their upcoming "Star Wars Weekend", and so far there are confirmed guest appearances from Ray Park (Darth Maul) and Warwick Davis (Wicket). C'mon, who wouldn't want to go to this?

Jedi, Sith, and scoundrels will soon gather -- not on Coruscant, Tatooine, or Cloud City, but at Disney's Hollywood Studios: Star Wars Weekends is returning this summer, taking place every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from May 17-June 9.

Wow that sucks
Armageddon26 - 3/14/2013, 6:37 PM
They've been doing Star Wars Weekend at DW since 97', hard to use this poster as a basis for judging the recent acquisitions.....that said it is still very cheesy
NoJobBOB - 3/14/2013, 6:42 PM

Meh, poster could be better, but I still love Disney for saving Star Wars.
DanielSon15 - 3/14/2013, 6:59 PM
Gross
I don't like this Star Wars thing
It feels wrong
I mean Georgie Lucas screwed the franchise royally
But it was his to mess up
Now it's just another franchise
Spyder - 3/14/2013, 7:04 PM
I cannot wait to go to Star Wars Weekend this year! I'm hoping either the surprise is JJ Abrams or the title to the next film or both!
Grabthemcakes - 3/14/2013, 7:06 PM
Please do not ruin the Star Wars franchise Disney! Please! Looking forward to more films but have a very bad feeling Disney is going to tarnish the franchise making it to cartoonish.

If someone told you 2 years ago that we would get a new SW trilogy, would y'all believe it?
harley2011 - 3/14/2013, 7:07 PM
Yeah that's pretty bad. It's better than a wrestler, but still not what you want to see.
RorMachine - 3/14/2013, 7:08 PM
Did Disney "ruin" Marvel?

"No"

Doesn't that earn them some grace for Star Wars?

"NOOOOOOOOOOOO"

oh, ok then.
TheHeat - 3/14/2013, 7:12 PM
SW Weekends are fun at Disney World.

haha so cool!

Disney bought Miramax in 1993. The first film they greenlit was Pulp Fiction, which included heroine addicts, anal rape scene, plenty of violence, and the N word about a thousand times. Oh, and it was an awesome movie which became an instant classic. Don't worry about Disney cartooning Star Wars.
NoAssemblyReqd - 3/14/2013, 7:41 PM
"It was only a matter of time"?

Uh, Ror, you do realize that Star Wars Weekends has been going on at Walt Disney World for several years now, so Mickey - Star Wars cross-pollination is nothing new.
Netman0007 - 3/14/2013, 7:42 PM
Just what we were afraid of.
mkilban2 - 3/14/2013, 7:46 PM
hmm can't decide if I wanna watch Lion King or Beauty and the Beast tn.
RorMachine - 3/14/2013, 7:46 PM
Have you seen Mickey on a speederbike before?..only a matter of time:)
Aeyan - 3/14/2013, 7:47 PM
It's an omen. You have been warned...
BIGBMH - 3/14/2013, 8:00 PM
I think Chip and Dale as Ewoks is pretty funny. Some of you take this stuff too seriously. It's not like they just announced that Episode 7 was going to feature Mickey.
NoAssemblyReqd - 3/14/2013, 8:00 PM
Have people been asleep the past 3 decades of Disney and Lucasfilm's close relationship? There are many posters like this going back to 1986.
TheBlackPhantom994 - 3/14/2013, 8:46 PM
Big deal. This has nothing to do with the recent purchase of Lucasfilm. They've been making posters like this for years. Trust me. Mickey Skywalker is a pretty familiar face for Star Wars weekends at Disney World.
SuspenseSmith - 3/14/2013, 8:56 PM
I work at Disney World and at Hollywood Studios no less... and... they've had this Disney/Star Wars stuff for a while. I love my shirt that says, "Join the Duck Side" with Donald as Darth Maul. It's freaking hilarious and awesome at the same time.

I'm actually surprised how LITTLE they've done so far, though. Still a severe lack of Star Wars merchandise at the parks.
SuspenseSmith - 3/14/2013, 8:58 PM
Not looking forward to Star Wars Weekends. It's gonna be a B**** of a shift to work. Ugh.
jackdawak - 3/14/2013, 9:27 PM
I have a bad feeling about this
TheAbomination - 3/14/2013, 10:06 PM
And so begins the pain and suffering.
ndwwrestler2 - 3/14/2013, 10:55 PM
Wait a minute, this is a bad thing? This is a bad thing!?

Tell me you guys are just joking...please tell me your joking.
Spectre94 - 3/14/2013, 11:05 PM
They have always done the Star Wars weekends and have plenty of Disney-themed products already. It was really only a matter of time
SoulAlone - 3/14/2013, 11:13 PM
How long before Marvel has a series of Star Wars-themed Alternate Covers like they did with Tron? I'm predicting Wolvie with lightsaber claws...*shudder*
mrHJK - 3/14/2013, 11:53 PM
Star Wars has been in Disney parks with merch since the 80s, and they've been doing Star Wars Weekends every summer for years. This is not new and not unique to buy LucasFilm.
imadick - 3/15/2013, 3:18 AM
When Disney took Pixar, we got Up and Toy Story 3.

When Disney took Marvel, we got The Avengers.

Now Disney is taking Star Wars and giving us a new trilogy of films, and we're all complaining?

Let us see what we have right now:
They've taken the basic story from George Lucas (like the original trilogy). Have had someone else refine the script (like most of the original trilogy). Gotten someone who's capable, good with actors, and not-Lucas to direct (like most of the original trilogy). Throwing a lot of money into the production and marketing.

I don't understand what the fuss is all about. Disney is an entertainment industry powerhouse because they do good business.
tribbleorlfl - 3/15/2013, 4:32 AM
As a couple have already alluded to, Disney has released a similar poster every year for Star Wars weekends, so this is not the first Disney-themed poster nor is it a sign of things to come. Last year it was Donald as Darth Maul and Mickey as Obi Wan to promote Episode 1 3D. A couple years ago, it was Donald as Boba and Mickey as Luke to celebrate TESB 30th Anniversary. If this Star Wars/Disney stuff was so reprehensible, why does it fly off the shelves and sell out every year? I look at it as clever and fun cross marketing, nothing more or less. As usual, crap "reporting" from CBM contributors.
DarthLaney - 3/15/2013, 4:32 AM
They been promoting Disneyland Star Wars weekends like this for years, plus this type of merchandise has always been available within the park. What a stupid article.
skot888 - 3/15/2013, 5:20 AM
Meh I think it looks cool. *shrug* You guys are becoming waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to Hyper Critical.
Facade - 3/15/2013, 5:33 AM
Wow, that's bad.
fettastic - 3/15/2013, 6:06 AM
As excited as I was for this sale....I gotta admit this poster makes me cringe.
NoAssemblyReqd - 3/15/2013, 6:33 AM
As already alluded to, this is nothing new. I have this 2010 poster on a throw on the couch in my living room:

NoAssemblyReqd - 3/15/2013, 6:38 AM
And from 2011:

So, a sign of things to come? No, just business as usual. Move along, move along.
blockridge1977 - 3/15/2013, 7:33 AM
You know... This doesn't bother me. This excites me. Of all the imagery that Disney could have chosen; they pick something from CLASSIC Star Wars. I was expecting more prequel madness... It gives me the sense that the new movies will take that same direction. Let's hope so!
