Well, the Billy Zane movie was campy and, well, shit! But it did stick pretty close to the source. Some things just work better on the page. That costume and jungle setting are difficult to take seriously on screen. It felt like Tarzan tried on Jane's PJ's and took em for a test swing. But this move to the city and "updated" costume are a waste of time. If its not the Phantom just call it something else.

I hope they change that suit pretty fast!!

So this is a modern take, damn, the MARVEL COMICS mini series of a modern PHANTOM was good, why did'nt they go that way, damn you SYFY if this does the ratings, expect a tv series, damn that costumes sh!Te lol, they gotta change it!! : D

You just shouldn't mess with classic, iconic costumes. Granted, some of them may look a little cheesy on film, but when studios make drastic changes, it almost ceases to be the character. Like when Jon Peters wanted to give Superman a black suit that had, like, detachable knives or something. That is just not the character. If they make changes, they should be subtle like Daredevil, Spider-Man, or Superman Returns.

Way to go guys, you screwed up Highlander by making 'The Source' and now you've completely screwed with a classic like the Phantom! Nice 'Power Ranger' suit (good call LEEE)! What's next - The Shadow? ...the Lone Ranger? Tell us SyFy, what do you plan to TOTALLY screw up next?!

'SyFy' - what a joke! Aside from reruns of Stargate, STTNG, Doctor Who and Galactica, they hardly ever play ANYTHING truly 'science fiction' anymore! They should change their name from 'Syfy' to 'The network that plays lame D-list crap' (although that might be a little harder to put on business cards and letterhead)!

lol The Phantom originated in the 1930's. It seems like he movie was somewhat faithful, but I wouldn't really know because I have never read the Phantom.
I can understand updating it the concept, but even with that this still looks boring, and highly typical tv fare.
Even with the tv gore and the "new grittiness" aspect it still doesn't interest me

This looks a little cheesy BUT not any more cheesy than SMALLVILLE.

I'd be willing to give it a chance. The costume does need work though.

Something about that retarded looking hood, it makes him look like a snot-nosed little kid coming in after a day of playing in the snow for some hot chocolate with marshmallows.

Are you kidding me.....I did like the fact they tried to keep to the original...I'm always cool with a new suit or direction... but this blooooooooooowssssss!!!

About the hood.... maybe if it was called "Phantom in Da hood"...Nah, not working for me.

What ever happened to the Aqua-man pilot a couple of years ago...I thought that was OK.
