The Thing Will Be Completely CGI In The Fantastic Four Reboot

Apparently the big orange bruiser will no longer be a dude in a slightly dodgy costume, but a fully realized CG character. The title for the reboot, Fantastic Four: Reborn, is also confirmed...
According to one of Screenrant's sources, The Thing(previously played in a prosthetic suit by Michale Chiklis) will be completely CGI in the upcoming reboot. Noting the fans anger that The Thing was noticeably shorter than the rest of his team mates and didn't appear to be nearly strong enough..

It would seem that the suits in charge of 20th Century Fox have heard the fans’ complaints because I have it from a source inside the Fox SFX department working on the Fantastic Four Reboot (officially titled Fantastic Four Reborn) that The Thing will officially be 100% CG.

Thats cool I guess. We have certainly seen how well fully CG characters can look on screen(Hulk, Gollum, The Navii), but it has always been less effective when said character has had to interact a lot with actual actors(even Gollum,s scenes with the Hobbits in LOTR were never as "real" looking as his solo shots), and The Thing would most certainly have a lot of interacting to do! Either way, it has to be better than his incarnation in the last movies, although I actually though Michael Chiklis' performance was one of the more enjoyable elements of those turkeys.

Paul Young at Screenrant goes on to say..

Another thing my source noted was that work on Fantastic Four Reborn has been put on the back burner until X-Men: First Class is in the can and shooting for that film doesn’t begin until September 21st, 2010. So it could be awhile before we see any images or graphics related to the Fantastic Four Reborn film.

So, excited anyone?

CatwomanTDKR - 7/28/2010, 3:46 PM
thank god I dont care about this movie
Hiraga08 - 7/28/2010, 3:47 PM
They've had two tries at getting it right in live action, and they both failed. Let's give CGI a shot before anyone knocks it OK?
JoshWilding - 7/28/2010, 3:50 PM
Yeah, I'm ok with them doing the Thing entirely in CGI but is anyone else worried that the title "Reborn" hints at them being teenagers exactly like X-Men: First Class? I wouldnt put it past those assholes at Fox...

Nice find anyway ROR! :)
conformist21 - 7/28/2010, 3:51 PM
just let it die and get the rights back to Marvel,
it will not be a good movie,
x-men is pretty simple to function,
but you need a nice sweet team to direct F4 the right way.
Destroyer14 - 7/28/2010, 3:51 PM
I guess this is fine.
bleedthefreak - 7/28/2010, 3:51 PM

jazzman - 7/28/2010, 3:52 PM

LEEE777 - 7/28/2010, 3:52 PM
FOX and SONY suck! : P

Who sucks better?!? ; D
comicb00kguy - 7/28/2010, 3:56 PM
while I prefer live actors in roles. the Thing may honestly work better as CGI. I'm withholding further comment on this until we get an idea of how this new Thing will look. I actually thought they had him looking pretty Kirbyesque in the previous two films, and Cbiklis' interaction with the Human Torch was among the most enjoyable elements of the second one.

AVEN - 7/28/2010, 3:57 PM
@Leee777 "Who sucks better?!? ; D "

FOX
jusme6 - 7/28/2010, 3:57 PM
so how long till the rights to back to Marvel?

@jazz: lol! ah it's sad isn't it?
Creature - 7/28/2010, 3:59 PM
Fantastic Four: Reborn? Awful title, especially as it points out how it's a reboot.
The Thing was the only high point of the two movies. To be honest, Michael Chiklis did a good job, and I didn't mind the altering of size.
Hiraga08 - 7/28/2010, 4:01 PM
Fox definetly sucks more LEEE, seeing as they totally gang raped Deadpool in Wolverine. And Deadpool is my favorite fictional character of all time. :(
At least Sony's done justice to MOST of their characters.
RedDevil - 7/28/2010, 4:02 PM
Fox should just burn for all I care. Let it become bankrupt! The only good studios left are Warner Bros./DC,Paramount, and Disney/Marvel.
marvel72 - 7/28/2010, 4:02 PM
@ leee777 yes,fox & sony do suck.
but having the thing cgi you can now have the thing the size & build like he has in the comics.
maybe get andy serkis to do the motion caption stuff, they might go for avatar style cgi.
i think its gonna be cool.
teabag - 7/28/2010, 4:06 PM
I dont see a CGI Think being that credible..like Ror said it always looks fake when they ineract with live action...i dunno....they should just do that face replacment thing they did for DaveyJones or something :P
StuckInPanels - 7/28/2010, 4:06 PM
WHAT THE HELL MAN WHATS THE POINT THEN!!!! WHY NOT GET DEREK MEARS TO PLAYS THE THING...HES REALLY TALL AND BOSS COOL STUNTS...WHY TO GO FOX...PISS ALL OVER THE RIGHTS YOU OWN YOU LAZY FRICKS!!!!
P862010 - 7/28/2010, 4:06 PM
so is dane cook gonna be human torch LOL
StuckInPanels - 7/28/2010, 4:06 PM
@DG..thats gonna take awhile for them to go bankrupt after all that AVATAR money they made
imnotwearinghockeypants - 7/28/2010, 4:06 PM
Good news, that. You can't do an imposing rock pile that looks like styrofoam.
Joker08 - 7/28/2010, 4:07 PM
I love this idea - the suit Michael Chiklis wore looked 'soft' - not very rock-like at all. It worked great with the Hulk, they did it with Silver Surfer... I'm really happy about this :)

CGI has come a long way since Gollum - that was 10 years ago!
Skyh00k - 7/28/2010, 4:09 PM
As he should have been from the beginning.

No offense to Chiklas, Great actor. Just not the right choice for Mr. Grimm. No actor is. He is nearly as big as the Hulk. He should be enormous and heavy.

Motion capture that Muther Frakker.

And lose the Reborn part. Dumb.
No reborn, roboot , returns, rehash.

Just shut up and Do It.
Deadshot - 7/28/2010, 4:09 PM
[frick] reboots
KALel3412 - 7/28/2010, 4:09 PM
wish i cared. i use to like the ff but then they made it into a movie.
LEEE777 - 7/28/2010, 4:10 PM
AVEN @ : D

Hiraga08 @ I know man, I know, couldn't put what they did to DEADPOOL better myself! ; P

deadpool @ Yeah dude, real happy THINGS gonna be CGI! But if they go the FIRST CLASS route and use teens, I hope they retitle it ULTIMATE FF!

Well maybe? Actually I better think about what I just said lol?!

DEADSHOT @ Exactly!!!
Jordacar - 7/28/2010, 4:13 PM
CG Thing? That's nice. Let me know when Fox loses the rights.
AlternateNo4 - 7/28/2010, 4:13 PM
he didn't look bad the first time... :)

RorMachine - 7/28/2010, 4:14 PM
Joker08, maybe so, but Gollum remains the most successful fully rendered cgi character to this day! The Navvii outshone him but only in their own cgi world, not while interacting with actual actors.

Anyway, the only way I would be interested in a FF movie is if the team were replaced by Jessicas Biel and Alba, Rosario Dawson and Carla Gugino, and instead of fighting crime their mission was to stay in bed all day, naked.
JOOSWOGGLE - 7/28/2010, 4:14 PM
i think these fox movies are a waste of time and money, theyr never gna do it right, so just let the rights go bak to marvel before someone acctually torches one of the studios :P
UnfriendlySpidey - 7/28/2010, 4:15 PM
wow interesting developments..

as always, awesome job @ Ror!!!
TANKGIRL - 7/28/2010, 4:15 PM
LEEE777 YOU DIDNT SAY JANUARY JONES YET
RoadDogXXIV - 7/28/2010, 4:15 PM
I agree with this. Everybody wanted the Thing to be in CGI format. And Skyh00k brings up a great point: matter of fact, get the "Avatar" crew to work on motion-capture, and it's money, baby.

By the way, Vin Diesel for Thing. Especially since he's from New York, and the gravelly voice would fit. That or Domenic Lombardozzi from "The Wire", another New Yorker.

I'm not keen on Ryan Kwanten as Human Torch. He doesn't have a funny bone unless he's getting rammed up the ass by Chris Rock. To me, Travis Van Winkle, since he can play a douchebag and score some big laughs. Watch "Friday the 13th" if you don't believe me.
ckal - 7/28/2010, 4:16 PM
CGI Thing is probably for the best.

But WTF FOX...just give up on super heroes! Everything you make over there is such trash. Just continue to dig the super heroes you have the rights to deeper and deeper in the ditch. Just give the rights up, sooner or later these crappy super hero franchises, then the rebooted versions of those franchises, will stop making you much money.

Sigh...worst damn studio on the planet.
AlternateNo4 - 7/28/2010, 4:16 PM
@Intruder—thanks...??? well from a marvel guy, i suppose that counts as a compliment! ;)
ElBicho - 7/28/2010, 4:16 PM
Ryan Reynolds for Johnny Storm!
comicbookjerk - 7/28/2010, 4:17 PM
Oh Great Here we Go Lets do everything CGI, Its getting to be a little lame ok Stop with the CGI it looks fake every time, I Would like to see this thing come back a BAd Azz Ninja turtles looking mo fo
AlternateNo4 - 7/28/2010, 4:18 PM
@ElBicho—lol and Chris Evans for Doom!
cyclopstb - 7/28/2010, 4:19 PM
This bulls*** !

Nobody asked for another reboot. The first two films were terrific and enjoyable to watch. And what they got in return ?

THEY'RE FOOLISHLY REBOOT IT TOO SOON !

NO MORE REBOOTS!
Hiraga08 - 7/28/2010, 4:19 PM
Remember LEEE, without reboots we wouldn't have Batman Begins or the Dark Knight. ;)
no, [frick] Fox and Sony! Not the reboots.
Paramount is the only company that's getting these movies right! Thanks God Fox doesn't have rights to the Avengers!
Hawksblueyes - 7/28/2010, 4:20 PM
I have never been a big Fantastic Four fan but the Thing is supposed to be huge. It wouldn't hurt to try something different.

Great find Ror.
LEEE777 - 7/28/2010, 4:21 PM
JANUARY JONES!!!! : P

Nah, I think THE THING will look 100% more real than HULK CG, coz basically THING isn't skin but BRICKS!

Hiraga08 @ Very true, but after B&R they had to reboot that [frick]er lol!
InFamouslyCool - 7/28/2010, 4:22 PM
first two films sucked and i'm expecting nothing but the same from the next one. cgi the whole damn cast for all i care.. $12.50 of my money wont be spent on it.
KeithM - 7/28/2010, 4:23 PM
THIS. MUST. FAIL.

I hate to wish that on the FF when I so want to see it done properly, but unless the rights return to Marvel, we'll never have a "proper" cosmic MU on film.

No FF? No Surfer? No Galactus? It would break my heart.

The Marvel Universe isn't complete without the FF.

I say again.

THIS. MUST. FAIL.
teabag - 7/28/2010, 4:24 PM
The Navi still looked fake next to the real actors :)
luffycapri - 7/28/2010, 4:25 PM
Still hate fox.
Skyh00k - 7/28/2010, 4:25 PM
@ ArrionShadow :

Oh yeah, that Thing looks So much better than Chiklas..

Technorogy (yes, I know I misspelled it) has finally caught up with modern movie making. Utilize It !

The only reason they had to do prostheses (that word is correct too, plural for prosthetic) was because they didnt have CGI and stuff.

Just like old time carpenters wished they has safety glasses and power saws back in the day.

Technorogy. Google it.
HULK2099 - 7/28/2010, 4:27 PM
Yessssss!! Thank GOD
KeithM - 7/28/2010, 4:28 PM
PS. I know I'm being a pain and not discussing the actual movies, and I hate it myself when people constantly bitch about things, but when I think of all this good stuff happening at Marvel, it really does break my heart that half the MU is missing.

It ain't right dammit.

:gets a grip:
Skyh00k - 7/28/2010, 4:30 PM
